License Bureau Head For County Selected by Gov. Appointment of John Creighton as district inspector, State Contractors' License Bureau, was today officially announced by William G. Bonelli, State Registrar of Contractors. Mr. Creighton will make his headquarters at the Orange County Builders' Exchange, Builders' Exchange Building, Santa Ana. "Creighton," states Registrar Bonelli, who is also a member of Governor Merriam's cabinet, holding the dual position of Director of the State Department of Professional and Vocational Standards and State Registrar of Contractors, "has been appointed from the Civil Service list as required by the State Civil Service Law recently enacted." MISSIONARY CLUB AT GARDEN GROVE MEETS The Missionary Society of Garden Grove met last Thursday afternoon with Mrs. E. C. Amos and Mrs. Lizzie Morgan as cohostesses. ADVERTISERS AT NEWPORT WARNED The advertising committee of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce have issued a warning that merchants should not advertise in any programs for any occasion. "Creighton," further states Bonelli, "brings with him a splendid background for this type of work. He brings a wide practical and educational background with him to this job. Following three years of college in Chicago, he spent two years studying law in Los Angeles. In addition to his schooling, the new inspector, following five years in miscellaneous types of construction employment, entered the field as a general contractor. Two years later he was appointed chief engineer of a large Rochester, New York public works construction company. Five years ago he accepted a better position in Los Angeles with a large building firm as superintendent and engineer in charge of construction. The withdrawal of this firm, due to lack of business last year, left Mr. Creighton free to accept a position with the State." Creighton is assigned to the district covering Orange County; the towns of Oceanside, Fallbrook and Vista in San Diego County, and the towns of Whittier, Montebello, Huntington Park, Bell, Maywood and South Gate in Los Angeles County. They said they have appraisals made of both properties involved and that these appraisals favor the orange show property. At the present, it was admitted Anaheim is providing park facilities for much of Orange county, but all agreed that it was obtaining returns to repay it amply in the form of good will. Those entering into the discussion seemed to feel that by the time the property could be prepared for use it will be badly needed for recreational purposes. They were of the belief that no comparable acreage within the city is available for park purposes without a much greater expenditure than is contemplated. Sheridan said it would be necessary to lay a large drain through the property from east to west at a cost approximating $6000. Others at the meeting were of the opinion that because it contemplates extension of playground facilities it would be able to attract support from the PWA, or some other federal agency. Both the council and chamber of commerce officials invited public reaction to the proposal. It was made clear that Anaheim would retain the crop now on the orange grove, and would cease care of the property September 1. Both properties are clear of encumbrance. Many fire hazards were eliminated in the process of the department's inspection of 240 buildings in the business district in the interest of fire prevention. The department also carried on the usual school fire drills. A large contribution of the fire department is the work with the inhalator. Seven calls were answered last year, with the inhalator saving the lives of three persons who might otherwise not have lived. In two instances the inhalator was not found necessary. Chief Nyboe with one of his men remain on these cases as long as needed, in one case bringing a child through a period of several days' illness.
