The Board of Town Trustees met in regular session on Wednesday.
The Committee on Public Improvements was instructed to ascertain if the property owners on Los Angeles and Center streets would deed to the town eight feet in front of their several properties for a sidewalk.
The clerk submitted a statement of the receipts and disbursements of the town of Anaheim for the fiscal year $1884-85.
Total receipts were $5064.42. Disbursement $5041.30. The item of expenditure on roads ($2381.48) included $1000 spent in the river bed last summer and the construction of the sidewalk to the depot.
The pamphlet published by the Immigration Association will be ready for distribution next week. It is a most interesting publication, and will be read with avidity by the people among whom it will be circulated. The principal topics treated of are: The climate of Anaheim; Anaheim as a health resort; Water facilities of Anaheim; Anaheim as a horticultural district; Viticulture in Anaheim; Grazing and Dairy Interests; Land Values; Fruit Seasons; Agricultural Possibilities; Citrus Culture in Anaheim; the Ostrich Industry; the Wine Industry; Education advantages; the Churches in Anaheim; Social Advantages of Anaheim; Business opportunities; Abundant Field Sports; Facts for Settlers; A Ride through the country. It will be seen that every pertinent topic has been treated of, and the pamphlet will doubtless be a power for good.
Superintendent, Sketchley of the ostrich farm while walking meditatively along the mossy banks of Cayote creek on Wednesday, made a rather queer discovery. On the banks of the creek a few hundred yards from the farm lay the caressa of a huge brown bear. It was badly decayed and the erstwhile shaggy and picturesque coat torn by vultures. Mr. Sketchley cut off such portions of bruins anatomy as he thought might be acceptable to Gen. Ward, the Pasadena collector of curiosities and forwarded them to him. The most reasonable theory of the presence of the bear in a locality so remote from its haunts, is that it was wounded by some hunter in the mountains and had followed the creek until it succumbed to the wounds.

Mr. D. W. Coquillette received a dispatch on Monday from Prof. Riley, the Entomologist of the department of agriculture authorizing him to proceed at once to the locust-infested regions of the San Joaquin Valley and investigate the antecedents and career of that numerous insect. Mr. Coquillette left on Monday morning for Stockton and will make a thorough study of the grasshopper question. He is a thoroughly competent entomologist as is evidenced by the appointment conferred upon him by the department—to which, by the way a very handsome salary is affixed.
The attendance at the Presbyterian social at Kroeger's hall on last Tuesday evening was flatteringly large and Mrs. Morton under whose direction the affair was given has reason to feel proud at the success of her efforts. Socially and financially the affair was a complete success.
A meeting of citizens will be held at Kroeger's hall on next Monday evening at 8 o'clock for the purpose of preparing for the observance of the Fourth of July. Everybody is requested to be (Continued on page 6)

Anaheim forty years ago last Thursday.
Mr. Gates drove up from San Diego and proceeding through town went into camp on the main ditch east of town.
He pitched a tent near the ditch and made himself and his family comfortable.
His first visitor was John Hartung who lived with his parents nearby.
John walked over to see what the new-comers looked like and what they were doing. A friendship sprang up which has subsisted to this day. Mr. Gates walked into the First National bank on Thursday afternoon and the two gentlemen spent some time in talking of the incident which each remembered well.
Archie Henry was in town on Saturday purchasing a stove and kitchen utensils to replace those destroyed by a fire which consumed his residence at Caledonia Grove two weeks ago. Archie is living in a tent and will later on erect a new residence. Included in the loss of his residence was $74 in Money.
A. $10 gold piece and a silver dollar were afterward recovered, the silver being melted while the gold piece remained intact. Only $175 insurance was carried on the building and the policy was destroyed in the fire. The amount will be paid by the Farmers' Cooperative Insurance company. Archie counts this all a bit of misfortune, but he will soon rebuild and be again in comfortable quarters.

Southern California 4-H Leaders To Hold Meet at Laguna Beach Next Saturday
The sixth annual meeting of the 4-H Agriculture and Home Economics Clubs of Southern California will be held in the public school at Laguna Beach on Saturday, May 25, according to Eric E. Eastman.
The conference will be preceded by an informal pot-luck supper and program on the beach Friday evening. The program committee for the supper consists of A. C. Sutliff of Anaheim; Mrs. F. L. Benson, of Anaheim; and Mrs. G. D. Griset, of Tustin. The evening program will be led by Mr. Woodbridge Metcalf, Extension Forester, who is also a popular song and stunt leader in the 4-H work in California. He will be assisted by the San Bernardino County leaders.
The Saturday program in the school will feature three phases of 4-H Club work of immediate interest and utility: Local Fairs, Problems of Club Leadership, and Summer Camps. Mr. Leslie Carman of the Los Angeles County 4-H Council will lead the discussion on local fairs; Mrs. Sara W. Prentiss, Home Demonstration Specialist with the Agricultural Extension Service, Berkeley, will direct the discussion of Club leadership problems; and Mr. Woodbridge Metcalf, Extension Forester from Berkeley, will be in charge of the discussion of summer camps. The principal speaker on this subject will be Dr. Martin H. Neumeyer of the Department of Sociology of the University of Southern California, on the subject of "Camping and Personality." The conference will adjourn for a recreational period preceding the banquet in the American Legion Hall, arrangements for which are in charge of a committee consisting of Mrs. A. Schroeder of West Orange;
Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Benson of Katella; and Eric E. Eastman, Assistant Farm Advisor. The dinner program will be in charge of the leaders from Riverside County. A program of recreation will follow the banquet, led by the leaders from Imperial County.
All persons who are interested in 4-H Club work and other rural juvenile education are invited to attend the conference, for which there is no fee, Eastman stated.
WAKE UP YOUR LIVER BILE—WITHOUT CALOMEL
And You'll Jump Out of Bed in the Morning Rarin' to Go
If you feel sour and sunk and the world looks punk, don't swallow a lot of salts, mineral water, oil, laxative candy or chewing gum and expect them to make you suddenly sweet and buoyant and full of sunshine.
For they can't do it. They only move the bowels and a mere movement doesn't get at the cause. The reason for your down-and-out feeling is your liver. It should pour out two pounds of liquid bile into your bowels daily.
If this bile is not flowing freely, your food doesn't digest. It just decays in the bowels. Gas bloats up your stomach. You have a thick, bad taste and your breath is felt often breaks out in bleamshes. Your headaches and you feel down and out. Your whole system is poisoned.
It takes those good, old CARTER'S LITTLE LIVER PILLS to get these two pounds of bile flowing freely and make you feel "up and up." They contain wonderful, harmless, gentle vegetable extracts, amazing when it comes to making the bile flow freely.
But don't ask for liver pills. Ask for Carter's Little Liver Pills. Look for the name Carter's Little Liver Pills on the red label. Resent a substitute. 25c at drug stores. ©1931 G.M.Co.
