To Establish Soil Conservation Camp In Orange County Soon is Report Word has just been received from H. E. Reddick, Regional Director, California Soil Erosion Service, by Farm Advisor Harold E. Wahlberg, that a special CCC camp will soon be established in Orange County as a part of the national public works program. Advise from the Washington office of the Emergency Conservation Administration states that about 225 men will be enrolled in the new Orange County camp, the location of which will be announced later. The campaign being waged by the Government against the loss of valuable agricultural lands by erosion, will be carried on by the CCC organization under the direction of trained personnel of the Soil Conservation Service. For several months the Orange County Farm Advisor's office has negotiated with the U. S. Department of Interior and the U. S. Department of Agriculture regarding the need for soil conservation and erosion control in certain areas of the county. Hundreds of acres of good soil have been eroded or cut away as a result of heavy storms and the lack of proper protection. Petitions and letters from property owners, farm centers, growers' associations have been forwarded to Washington urging the establishment of an erosion control project in Orange County. Preliminary surveys have been made by engineers of the Erosion Control Service to determine the extent of soil losses here. Dr. Laudermilk, vice-director of the Washington office, and Mr. Reddick, California Regional Director, have recently inspected the problem areas and submitted reports and recommendations for procedure. The assignment of a camp in Orange County is no doubt the first step towards a constructive program of erosion control that will bring permanent benefits to the county. Committee Plans For Recreational Program Here Last Thursday marked the first meeting of the Citizens' committee which was created for the purpose of arranging the summer recreational programs at the five school grounds under the supervision of Richard Glover and SERA workers. Definite plans were outlined at the meeting. Glover outlined his plan of activities in the way of sports, tournaments and contests among the older children and games for the smaller ones and presented a tentative program for entertainments with an adult appeal to be given each Thursday night at the city park theater. Mr. Glover, who is athletic instructor at Anaheim high school and who was employed by the Citizens Committee to supervise the summer program, reported that he believed SERA talent could be obtained for practically all of the programs he had outlined, and that, where needed, he could call on SERA talent in adjacent counties for this Agriculture Course Discussed at Meet The Smith-Hughes Agricultural courses were the topic of discussion at a joint meeting of the Placentia Farm Center and the Pioneer Mens' Brotherhood last Thursday night. Explaining the courses was George P. Weldon, Chaffey Junior College instructor. In a business meeting of the farm center, Ralph McFadden reported on farm bureau activities. The center endorsed the action of the board of education in obtaining a Smith-Hughes course for the Valencia High school next year. Ed Eisenacher was re-elected president, Ralph McFadden, vice-president, and Leonard Hummel re-elected secretary-treasurer at a business session of the Brotherhood. June 4 is to be the last meeting of the brotherhood for this year and a woman's night program is planned. Arch Raitt, Y.M.C.A., secretary announced a Hi-Y barbecue at the Bradford school Monday evening for graduating grammar school boys. Alvin Koenig, assistant scoutmaster, discussed plans for sending representatives of Placentia Scout troops to Washington for the National Scout jamboree. He asked aid in raising funds for that reason. H. H. Schwood announced a Mexican dinner at the Baker street school on June 5. Three numbers were played by the brotherhood band to begin the program and the Rev. D. J. Brigham of the Placentia church pronounced the benediction. MELROSE ABBEY MAUSOLEUM Entombment may now be made in this beautiful memorial edifice for as low as $97.50. Niches at $20. Liberal terms. Located on 101 Highway between San Antonio and Anaheim. Fire Chiefs Eat Trout At Meeting In Orange Proving their ability as nimrods, five fire chiefs of the Orange county cities journeyed to Azusa last week and supplied enough "speckled beauties" to set the table for the monthly meeting held in Orange last Thursday night. Among the successful chiefs who donned the boots and gathered up the tackle was Chief Nyboe of Anaheim. The dinner was held in the new fire hall at Orange. Following the dinner a business session was held at which time the discussion of an emergency measure by which the disaster fire trucks could be called to any part of the county was held. Representing Anaheim at meeting in addition to Chief Nyboe was Councilman M. W. Martenet. Mr. Glover, who is athletic instructor at Anaheim high school and who was employed by the Citizens Committee to supervise the summer program, reported that he believed SERA talent could be obtained for practically all of the programs he had outlined, and that, where needed, he could call on SERA talent in adjacent counties for this purpose. He plans to present four vaudeville programs, three band concerts, an "amateur night" and a dramatics performance. The program will start the first Monday following the close of school, which will be June 17. It climaxes a ten-year dream of the Anaheim P.-T. A. which was partially realized last summer when SERA workers were placed on the park and school grounds for play supervision. Only this year, when the city donated $1000 towards such a project, creating a Citizens Committee of P.-T. A., workers, business men and school administrators, with power to act, and enabling the employment of a full-time trained supervisor, in the person of Mr. Glover, to take the program entirely into his hands, has the dream finally been realized. 50 Days Is Sentence For Drunken Driving One Anaheim resident found that the technical fact that he was not driving on a public highway did not eliminate him from spending a vacation in Sheriff Jackson's Chateau for drunk driving when Louis Vasquez, 206 La Palma street faced Judge Frank Tausch. Vasquez was arrested last Thursday night when he drove his car through a neighbor's garden and upon appearing pleaded not guilty to drunk driving setting up as his defense that he was not on a public highway. Judge Tausch had a different idea however, and Vasquez has 50 days in which to think over the matter. 3 LINES — 3 TIMES — 3 DIMES Three numbers were played by the brotherhood band to begin the program and the Rev.
