WAKE UP YOUR LIVER BILE—WITHOUT CALOMEL
And You'll Jump Out of Bed in the Morning Rarin' to Go
If you feel sour and sunk and the world looks punk, don't swallow a lot of salts, mineral water, oil, laxative candy or chewing gum and expect them to make you suddenly sweet and buoyant and full of sunshine.
For they can't do it. They only move the bowels and a new movement doesn't get at the cause. The reason for your down-and-out feeling is your liver. It should pour out two pounds of liquid bile into your bowels daily.
If this bile is not flowing freely, your food doesn't digest. It just decays in the bowels. Gas bloats up your stomach. You have a thick, bad taste and your breath is foul, skin often breaks out in blemishes. Your headaches and you feel down and out. Your whole system is poisoned.
It takes those good, old CARTER'S LATTLE LIVER PILLS to get these two pounds of bile flowing freely and make you feel up and up. They contain wonderful harmless, gentle vegetable extracts, amazing when it comes to making the bile flow freely.
But don't ask for liver pills. Ask for Carter's Little Liver Pills. Look for the name Carter's Little Liver Pills on the red label. Resent a substitute. S&P drug stores. ©1931 C.M.Co.

Stockholders of the Southern California Edison Company Ltd., at their thirty-ninth annual meeting March 15, unanimously re-elected the present board of directors. As an innovation in conducting corporation annual meetings the Edison Company's stockholders meeting was broadcast by wired radio from the Edison Building in Los Angeles to the company's eleven division centers throughout southern and central California. Hundreds of stockholders residing distant from Los Angeles were enabled to hear the annual meeting proceedings through the company's private broadcast facilities. This is believed to be the first time in history that any company has used this most modern method of communication for a stockholders meeting. It was made possible through the company's extensive communication system combined with the use of radio broadcast receivers and phonograph pickup facilities.
The re-elected board of directors is composed of Harry J. Bauer, president of the company; C. A. Buffum, George I. Cochran, John H. Fisher, Albert W. Harris, A. N. Kemp, Fred B. Lewis, A. J. McFadden, Ben R. Meyer, W. C.
CHURCHES OF CHRIST, SCIENTIST
"Matter" is the subject of the Lesson-Sermon on Sunday in all branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass. The Golden Text is from Habakkuk: "Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it."
One of the Scriptural selections in the Lesson-Sermon includes these verses from Matthew: "And when Jesus was Mullendore, Donald O'Melveny, James R. Page and Henry M. Robinson.
Mr. Bauer, presiding at the meeting, briefly reviewed the company's progress during the year and directed the attention of the stockholders to the need for their more active interest in the company's affairs.
"The Edison Company is not owned by a wealthy few, but by 121,000 people, most of them of moderate means," Mr. Bauer said. "In selecting this company as a medium through which to invest their savings, they did so because they believed it would be helpful to their community to have good, reliable electrical service provided at fair rates.
Motorists Warned About Speed Law
SACRAMENTO, March 21—In a statement issued here today, Theodore J. Roche, Director of the Department of Motor Vehicles, warned the motoring public against driving in excess of speeds imposed in the California Vehicle Act.
Director Roche's statement was issued in explanation of the Department's attitude toward Superior Judge Frank Lamberson's decision in the case of Francis Lederer, motion picture actor, convicted in a municipal court of traveling at 68 miles an hour. Roche said:
"The interpretation placed upon the California Vehicle Act by the Department of Motor Vehicles is that when a motorist exceeds the maximum speed limit prescribed by the act, and proof of such speed is made the legal presumption that he is violating the law.
Teachers, Asked To Aid Observance Of Schools Week
SAN FRANCISCO, March 20: The 35,000 members of the California Teachers Association were today called on to give full cooperation in the sixteenth annual observance of Public Schools Week, April 8, in a proclamation issued by John A. Sexson, Superintendent of Schools, Pasadena, and State President of the teachers organization. Sexson requested the association members to cooperate with the American Legion, the California Congress of Parents and Teachers, the California Federation of Women's Clubs and all other organizations that annually unite to make the week's observance successful.
"Public Schools Week," said Sexson, "presents an annual opportunity for teachers to report on their stewardship of the schools directly to the people of the state, who are in fact the owners of the schools."
The proclamation continues:
"We as educators know that Call-LEGAL NOTICES

One of the Scriptural selections in the Lesson-Sermon includes these verses from Matthew: "And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever. And he touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she arose and ministered unto them. When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils; and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esalas the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses."
A correlative passage from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy, states, "Our Master's first article of faith propounded to his students was healing, and he proved his faith by his works."
Supervisors Get Deed To Lot In Buena Park
The Board of Supervisors this week accepted a deed to a lot in Buena Park, which has belonged to the American Legion post there which is believed a preliminary step in aiding the veterans to build a home there.
The county will now be in position to sponsor a project for the building under the SERA. The county, it is believed will furnish 20 per cent of the cost of the land and building, the balance coming from the SERA.
WHEN YOU TAKE ATTitude toward Superior Judge Frank Lamberson's decision in the case of Francis Lederer, motion picture actor, convicted in a municipal court of traveling at 68 miles an hour. Roche said:
"The interpretation placed upon the California Vehicle Act by the Department of Motor Vehicles is that when a motorist exceeds the maximum speed limit prescribed by the act, and proof of such speed is made the legal presumption is that he is violating the law.
"Under proper circumstances, a highway patrol officer is justified in subjecting such motorist to arrest.
"Unless, upon his subsequent trial, it shall appear from the evidence introduced that the motorist was not violating any of the provisions of Section 113 (a) of the California Vehicle Act, the Court, upon the conclusion of such trial, would be legally authorized to find such motorists guilty.
"The Department earnestly urges every motorist to drive at a prudent and careful rate of speed not only to avoid arrest but for his own safety and the safety of those riding with him and others on the highways. The tragic record of injury and death on the highways of California offers conclusive proof that excessive speed is the principal cause of traffic accidents resulting in death.
"It is anticipated by the Department that within the immediate future it will promulgate a definite, as well as an enforceable plan, responsive to and within the letter of the existing California Vehicle law, which will adequately protect the lives, limbs and property of the public utilizing the highways, and at the same time enable punishment being meted out to offenders against California's traffic laws."

WHEN YOU TAKE A LAXATIVE
...use a spoon
It isn't what brand of laxative you take that's so important—it's the form. A liquid laxative can be taken in any required amount. If only a little is needed, you need never take a bit too much.
Doctors favor the easily measured liquid laxatives. Instead of any form that does not encourage variation from the fixed dose, a fixed dose may be an overdose for you—or your child.
Always remember this one thing about constipation: the secret of any real relief is reduced dosage.
Give the bowels only as much help as may be needed, and less help as the need grows less. You will find Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin an excellent aid in regulating the bowels. It contains senna and cascara (natural laxatives) and it will clear-up any bilious, sluggish condition without upset. Delightful taste, and pleasant action. Your druggist has it.

Men's Fisherman Club Formed at Placentia
Steps to organize a Men's Fisherman club were taken last Thursday night in Placentia, when about 20 men gathered at the Calvary church to discuss the organization.
Tentative plans were completed and will be made permanent at a meeting to be held tonight. It is planned to take a course of study when the organization is completed.
California has developed during the years from pioneer days, one of the outstanding school systems of America. Our public schools have withstood the shocks of the depression and have been enabled to provide, thus far, for the vast increase in attendance and the consequent teaching responsibilities forced on us by the economic crisis.
"Only through our modern school system and what its place is in training our children for intelligent and patriotic citizenship, can our schools hope to maintain their present prestige and continue to meet new problems as they arise."
"It is my earnest request that the 35,000 members of California Teachers Association, individually and collectively, unite to give their fullest cooperation to the organizations aiding in Public Schools Week, to the public generally in viewing the schools and their work, and to the press of the State which has been uniformly generous in publicizing the activities of the week and the work of the schools."
Wild Horses Being Sought for Rodeo
Search for wild horses in quantity to provide the excitement and thrills promised spectators of the eighth annual Baker Ranch Rodeo to be held Sunday afternoon, March 21, at Dena Rose Bowl, has been brought to a successful conclusion, was announced by Bob Anders associate of Roy Baker, in staging the western classic.
The search, which has been conducted by cowmen and ranchers in various parts of the west for several months ended in orders being placed with Burmeister, rancher and cattleman of Alturas, California, to round up the wild and woolly mustangs that abound in the almost inaccessible range of the lava beds in that area.
Burmeister, according to Anderson, has his men out now on the roundup, and will have a great corral filled with the kicking and snorting bronches ready for shipment by train to Pasadena this next week.
Champion cowboys of various sections of the west will begin their competition for the title of American champion during the Baker Ranch Rodeo, with the present champion, Leonard Ward, of Indio, already entered and ready to defend his title. All events of the range from chuck wagon racing to wild animal riding, roping and bull-dogging will be seen in the great spectacle, Anderson announced.
