Corn-Hog Contract Payments Will Be Checked By 2 Men Signers Who Violated Parts of Document Not To Get One Dollar Per Head Fied supervisors, J. H. Burnett of Buena Park and Jas. S. Knight of Fullerton, are now checking the compliance of signers with the corn-hog contracts, according to W. M. Cory, assistant farm advisor. Signers who have violated any of the provisions of the contract will not be certified for the second payment amounting to one dollar per head on 75 percent of the average production for 1932-1933. Soon after December 1, a second field check will be made. The present contract expires on that date. Signers having their evidence in regular order and who have violated none of the provisions of the contract will then be certified for the third and final payment. Préliminary provisions of the 1935 corn-hog contract have been announced by the agricultural adjustment administration. All corn or hog producers, regardless of whether or not they signed contracts in 1934, will be eligible to sign contracts in 1935. The maximum corn acreage that can be planted in 1935 is 90 per cent of the average for the two years 1932 and 1933. The corn adjustment payment will be made at the rate of 35 cents per bushel of yield estimated for the number of acres by which corn land area is kept below the 1932-1933 average. Hog provisions of the contract call for a production of 90 percent of the adjusted average number produced from 1932-1933 litters instead of 75 per cent as provided in the 1934 contract. The participating producer will receive Voice Across Sea As New Telephone Service Is Opened Eighty years after Commodore Perry's treaty of peace and amity opened Japan's door to western nations, voices flung across 5100 miles of water December 7 opened regular commercial radio telephone service between the United States and Japan. Recognized builder of national and international understanding through personal contacts, the telephone assumed a role in furthering fulfillment of the prophecy which President Fillmore, in 1954, wrote into Article I of the Perry treaty. Article I read as follows: "There shall be a perfect, permanent, and universal peace and a sincere and cordial amity between the United States of America on the one part, and the Empire of Japan on the other part, and between their people respectively, without exception of persons or places." The opening calls were made between high government officials of the two countries and press association chiefs, including Cordell Hull, secretary of state, conversing with Foreign Minister Koki Hirota. CCC Is Lauded In Forester’s Talk; 10-Year Advance L. A. County Officer Claims Forestry Program 10 Years Ahead of Schedule Southern California’s original forestry program has been advanced by 10 years, and infractions of the state’s game laws have dropped 30 per cent due entirely to help of CCC camps, according to A. G. Muench of the Los Angeles forestry department, who addressed members of the Anaheim Lions club Friday noon. His subject was “Fire Prevention and Forest Conservation.” Motion pictures of the La Crescenta-Montrose flood on last New Year’s day, of the burned area in the mountains which contributed directly to the flood conditions, and other graphic illustrations of the need of forestry as a means of preventing erosion and property damage, and saving human life, were shown and explained in detail. The speaker dealt upon the loss of life in the Griffith Park fire, but placed no blame. He declared that the CCC camps are centers of men trained in fighting fire, and these men are available for that purpose anywhere throughout the Southland. Not only do foresters look out for fires, but every forester is a deputy game warden, Muench said. He attributed to this fact, especially since the training of CCC camps, the big falling off in game law violations. All Persons Interested Are Invited to Attend Session at Farm Bureau Hall The Southern California sugar beet conference of processors, field men, research workers and others interested in the technical phases of the sugar beet industry will meet in the Farm Bureau hall, Santa Ana, starting at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 14. G. J. Strothoff of the Alamitos Sugar company will present the subject of seedbed preparation in the Orange county area. Other topics scheduled are "Field Experience in the Application of Fertilizers;" "Progress in the Development of Curly-top Resistant Beets;" "Development in Irrigation Practice;" "Crop Rotation;" "Spacing;" and "Possible Sources of Leaf-hoppers in Coastal Areas." The California sugar beet conference is in its seventh year of existence, and divided into two sections: Northern California and Southern California. Mr. J. W. Rooney of the American Crystal Sugar company of Oxnard is chairman of the southern section, which did not meet in Santa Ana last year. All persons interested in the technical phases of the beet industry are invited to attend, according to Eric E. Eastman, assistant farm advisor, who is in charge of local arrangements. Encourages Pupils To Attend Concert To encourage local school children to appreciate good music, Superintendent Melbourne A. Gaauer of the local elementary school system is granting time off for those wishing to attend the Vienna Choir boys who appear in a Young People’s concert at Bridges Auditorium, Claremont, next Monday afternoon, December 17. Special rates are given children. Gifts for the Home the Griffith Park fire, but placed no blame. Jr. College That Santa Ana junior college physics and other scientific equipment can compare favorably and "is probably better" than most other southland equipment of this nature, is the opinion of H. O. Russell. Don physics instructor, who has been instrumental in securing the new elaborately equipped department at the Santa Ana institution. Improvements over the old plant on Walnut street include more storeroom and office space for students' and instructor's laboratory materials. A separate, tiered lectured room equipped with photographic projection apparatus and a giant demonstration table is the most notable feature. A modernly equipped laboratory will accommodate 30 students, or more than twice the number of the former experiment room. With working conditions enhanced by superior equipment, a definite student project is already under way. Mr. Russel said. A wind tunnel, to test airplane models, is in the embryo stage. Investigation has been started, and materials are being assembled. Work is being done by Jack Hawkins and Ray St. Clair. TAKING A HEADER Elections prove this fact: If you blow up your bubble too much it is sure to burst. The choice is unusual in scope and you may make selection and purchase on a deferred payment plan if you wish. 4-H Clubs Will Hold Achievement Day Entertainments at Fullerton Union High School Auditorium on Saturday 12 Clubs Make Applications to U. Certified Potato Seed in Big Gains Increasing demand by growers for disease free seed has resulted in a big increase in the certified seed potato acreage this year over last year, according to records of the bureau of fruit and vegetable standardization, state department of agriculture. S. S. Rogers, chief of the bureau, said today that this year 166 acres of seed potatoes have passed the field inspections under authority of the certified seed potato standards of the state agricultural code. Last year the total acreage approved was 84. Rev. Ledbetter to Remain Another Year Rev. Virgil K. Ledbetter next year begins his eighth year as pastor of the Calvary Baptist church, as a result of his acceptance last week of a call for another year's service. He now is completing his seventh year at the head of the local church, this time however, being interspersed with a three-year service at Santa Paula. Valencia Growth In November Reported Low humidity during the month of November retarded the growth of valencias till their average increase in size for that period was below the average. Dr. D. D. Waynick of Association Laboratory announces. Despite November’s low rate of growth, however, the valencias remain a full size larger at this period than in previous years due to exceptionally rapid growth in preceding months. Outside growth for November was .088, and inside .100, while last year for the same month the growth was, outside .162 and inside .146. The Golden Text is from the Psalms; "The Lord preserveth all them that love him." A Scriptural citation in the Lesson-Sermon presents these verses from the Acts: "and it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda. And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy. And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately." One of the passages from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy, states, "The calm, strong currents of true spirituality, the manifestations of which are health, purity, and self-immolation, must deepen human experience until the beliefs of material existence are seen to be a bald imposition, and sin, disease, and death give everlasting place to the scientific demonstration of divine Spirit and to God's spiritual, perfect man."
