House Warming at New Spanish Home
Friends of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Danly surprised them last Saturday evening by going unexpectedly to their new Spanish home on North Brookhurst road, bearing many appropriate gifts and a generous supply of refreshments. Card games were played during the evening, when Mr. and Mrs. Danly carried off the prizes, and an original poem appropriate to the occasion was read by Mrs. Montrose McCann of Balboa.

Business Women to Give Two Picnics
Amelia Johnston, a Los Angeles attorney, was the speaker at the dinner of the Anaheim Business and Professional Women's club at the Elks clubhouse last Thursday evening, when she spoke on the need of educated and cultured women in political office. She represented the State Federation of Women's clubs at the last session of the California legislature, and she spoke on the work of the legislature, and the lack of it, in enacting laws affecting women.
Mrs. Kate E. McCullah was elected chairman of the club's nominating committee, which will report at the meeting on the last Thursday of August. Ada Gandy and Inez Yeats are also on this committee.
Club members were invited to attend a reciprocity dinner to be given by the Laguna Beach club on August 18.
The local club will give pot-luck dinners at the city park on the evenings of July 23 and August 13 for the benefit of the club's endowment fund. Dorothy Yungbluth is chairman of the committee arranging for these picnics.

Picnic in City Park
More than 100 former residents of Floyd county, Texas, now "exiles" in California, revived memories of the homeland at a picnic in the City park. Sunday. There were former Texans from all over Southern California and the occasion was so successful that annual outings will be held in the future.
Seventeen former residents, of Coulterville, Illinois, met at a dinner given in the City park one day last week. The occasion marked a farewell to Mrs. J. L. Bonnat and Mrs. Alice Bouas, both of whom left yesterday for a visit to their old homes.
Mr. and Mrs. Lake Motor to Yosemite
Mr. and Mrs. P. O Lake returned a week ago from a motor tour to Yosemite.
"While the water is a little low in some of the streams now, there still is sufficient to make the falls most interesting. I never before had seen scenery to equal Yosemite. Mrs. Lake and I particularly enjoyed our 11-mile trip via Vernal and Nevada falls to Glacier Point, our view from the area of the over-hanging rock, and return late in the evening over the four-mile trail to the floor of the valley," Mr. Lake said.
JUEVES CLUB PICNICS
The Jueves Club is planning two beach parties for the summer, one to be held on August 11 and the other in September, when picnic lunch will be served. The club held its last meeting for the season at the home of Mrs. C. P. Tompkins, Thursday afternoon, when there were three tables of bridge players, luncheon being served at 1 o'clock. The prizes were awarded to Mrs. Reginald Taylor and Mrs. Blaine Hunton.
DAN CUPID'S BUSY DAY
Dan Cupid did some straight shooting with his matrimonial darts in celebration of the Fourth, when the largest single day's business in licenses was transacted at the marriage bureau in County Clerk Backs' office. Thirty-five couples obtained license on July 3 and on the same day 18 couples obtained license on July 3 and on the same day 18 couples filed notices of intention to marry.

Franz Darvas Weds Miss Margaret Cook
Miss Margaret Cook, of Fullerton, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Cook, of Ottumwa, Iowa, became the bride of Franz Darvas, of the Orange County School of Fine Arts, last Saturday afternoon. The ceremony was in St. Stephen's Episcopal church, Hollywood, the Rev. P. A. Esley officiating.
The bridesmaid was Miss Mary Cook, of Holloywood, sister of the bride, and Valdimir Lenski was best man.
The newly-wed will live at 1861 North Rodney drive, Hollywood.
PHOTOGRAPHERS MEETING
The Photographers' Association of Southern California, of which Mrs. Mary Beltszold, of Anheim, is president met at Long Beach last Friday evening, which included a picnic dinner. An exhibit of pictures was made by Mrs. Bettszold. The group will hold its next meeting on July 24.
CONCERT AT CITY PARK
Madam Estelle Gray-Lhevinne, violinist, accompanied by "Laddie" Gray, a juvenile pianist, will give the free concert at the City park this evening. The violinist will play several groups and several classics will be given by her ten-year-old son.

Petty Takes Look At Shoe Stores
After an absence of about six weeks, during which time he enjoyed a vacation and "took in" the modern merchandising policies of shoe stores throughout Southern California, W. F. Petty this week was back handling managerial reins at the Western Shoe Store at 232 West Center street.
"Merchandising keeps one busy all the time," he said. "Every new phase must be studied, and every new requirement of the customer analyzed so that more satisfaction can be given. During the month that I looked over shoe stores, I picked up a great deal of new information, and have tried my best to inaugurate the newest methods at the local store."
NEW DRESS SHOP OPENS
Mr. and Mrs. Joe L. Powell, who formerly operated a dress shop in Los Angeles, this week opened the Betty Jo Dress Shop at 221 West Center street, where a line of house dresses was immediately put on display. Mr. and Mrs. Powell last week moved to 415 North Philadelphia street.

Miss Laura Hancock left today for New York, accompanied by her mother Mrs. Mary Hancock and brothers Ray and Gene. In the party were Mrs. J. H. Royer and three sons of Fulcherton. They will visit in the East until late in August.
