Anaheim, Calif., Jan. 15, 1931 George F. Howard Inc. Opens New Quarters Saturday Visitors to the larger new quarters of the Anaheim Buick agency will see in the above structure a stop arrangement that combines sales rooms offices, service quarters and used car department practically roof. Invites Visitors to Inspect Home "One-Stop" Feature of Spacious New Quarters Gets Attention From Dealers Residents of Northern Orange County this week are invited by the personnel of George F. Howard, Inc., Buick dealer for Northern Orange county, to join them in an informal open house Saturday, January 17, from 9 A.M. to 10 P.M., to celebrate the occasion of their removal to larger and more modern quarters at 233 North Los Angeles street, Anaheim. "This new Buick home has been provided for the convenience of the automobile owners" Mr. Howard says, "and is the most complete combination of sales and service facilities in Orange county, including several new departments in charge of factory-trained men to care for the motorist's every service need. "New Buick models will be on display for the inspection of the public. No selling effort will be made as the sole object of this gathering is to greet the public and make them welcome in this new Buick home." The service department is arranging for little remembrance to be given each gentleman guest, and Frank Brad-dock, Clyde Cromer, and Ted Elimers with a factory list of $1025.00 and over. The firm temporarily opened its new quarters about the first of the year but just now has completed all of its arrangements and is looking forward to good time for all on Saturday. EFFORTS TO CONSERVE SANTA ANA WATERS (Continued from Page 1) lanes and trails," the report further says. Many of the packing houses do not feel justified in continuing co-operation. This means other way must be found to meet the funds allocated Federal government for cost work, if we are to proceed essary means of prevention after burning over the water. Construction Work In Ten miles of motor-way, port, 50 miles of fire break have been constructed, and recleaned, with these funds. NO. The service department is arranging for little remembrance to be given each gentleman guest, and Frank Braddock, Clyde Cromer, and Ted Elimers and the rest of the selling personnel will not forget the ladies. Dealers from all over Southern California will attend this opening for the purpose of studying this new "one-stop" arrangement. One of the unusual features of this new home is the used car department housed under one roof—a span 100 feet long without a post. This is mighty important because nowadays the used car market determines and governs to a great extent the condition of the new car sales. For every new car sold, the agency must sell from one to four used cars. Here under this generous 100 foot span, it will be possible to keep the cars clean and yet afford easy access for the public to the used car display. This firm formerly was located at 128 S. Los Angeles street with used car lots in Anaheim and Fullerton. The sales rooms were at the previous address for a period of twelve years. During the past several years this firm has been at the top of the list of Buick dealers in Southern California a great deal of the time—the basis being percentage of sales of new Buicks against the balance of the field of cars TOTAL $747,068.73 LIABILITIES 21. While during the year 57 fires occurred in the National Forest, only 500 acres of watershed were burned, or less than ten acres for each fire. Mr. Cuttle says he attended several meetings in the interest of obtaining an increase to $100,000 of the state fire prevention fund, and this question should have further consideration by his committee. About 60 additional men have been put to work on fire prevention in the San Bernardino National Forest, and it is the hope that this force may be increased. The work of the Water Conservation Association, says the report, has made good progress in the last year, largely because of fine co-operation of the supervisors of the three counties, and because of the helpful work of Ralph E. Swing in the state legislature. The Hoover-Young Commission has, the report says, entirely ignored the 350,000 acres of land receiving its water supply from the Santa Ana river and producing about $30,000,000 worth of products a year. The water supply of this area also needs to be augmented to prevent it from reverting to the desert. "The only recommendation made by the Hoover-Young Commission, according to reports, is that Southern California be assisted in getting water from the Colorado river, which everybody knows is too expensive for irrigation, but could be used only for domestic purposes," says the report. G. A. S. Bank Re-Elects Two Anaheim Men At the annual stockholders meeting of the German American Savings Bank of Los Angeles, E. Zitzmann and Wm. Falkenstein were re-elected as directors of this steady growing institution. Mr. Zitzmann was again chosen First Vice-President and Mr. Falkenstein as a member of the executive committee. The total deposits on Dec. 31,1930, were $2,831,738.22 as against a total of $2,521,759.75 a year ago. A. C. Riutcel Attends Furniture Displays A. C. Riutcel, of the Riutcel-Wethered Furniture Company on North Los Angeles street, this week spent several days at the Furniture Market Exchange display in Los Angeles. "Many new designs in furniture were shown, most of them being exceptionally attractive," Mr. Riutcel said. "Of course, there were many novelties, too, but the general trend of the furniture show was highly pleasing." W. K. Etter, general manager, says. Two forces of 185 men each are busy between Barstow and Summit, and between Goffs and Cadiz, and other operations are being carried on in Arizona, mostly between Winslow and Holbrook. A total of 178 miles of new rail will be laid on the Coast lines this year, of which 87 miles will be on the Los Angeles division, 54 miles on the Arizona division and 37 miles on the Albuquerque division. This is the equivalent of approximate 31,000 tons, exclusive of fastenings. All the rail will be 110-pound. Another large force of men is at work completing the installation of automatic signals between Fullerton and San Diego, a project carried over from last year, and a similar force will soon be placed to work insailing automatic signals between Mojave and Barstow. This is part of the 1931 improvement program and will cover about 60 miles. Mengels Move Here From Montebello Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Mengel, formerly of Montebelle, this week rented the home at 117 North West street and planned to establish themselves here by the first of next week. Mr. Mengel is store manager for the Southeast Distributors; Inc., at 446 W. Center Street. Walnut Institute in Anaheim on Feb. 28 The Intercounty Walnut Grower's Institute will be held in Anaheim on Feb. 28, and judging from the past attendance of about 600 is expected. A feature of the coming session will be irrigation practices, when Prof. H. S. Becket will discuss the work he has been doing for two years investigating the moisture requirement of walnut trees. H. E. Wahlberg, Orange county farm advisor, will speak on walnut conditions as he observed them on a five months tour of Europe, when he visited the more important walnut producing areas. Walnut-blight investigations have been going on for four years. The conclusions of this blight investigation will be given at the institute by Dr. B. A. Rudolph of the University of California. Blight is probably the most important disease of walnuts. It causes great losses in nearly all sections. Dr. Rudolph has some very important information to convey to the growers. The meeting will be held at the Anaheim High School.
