Record Navel Crop Going To Market
Shipments May Total 8,100 Cars, Compared to 4,750 Cars Last Year
ORANGE OUTLOOK FOR 1931
Severe Test of Marketing Ability is Forecast
A record Navel crop is being shipped from Central and Northern California to fill the Christmas stocking, according to Dana C. King, orange sales manager of the California Fruit Growers Ex-
has made it difficult to force fruit rapidly on the markets.
"The California citrus industry faces a severe test of its marketing ability during the 1930-31 season. However, with the continued cooperation of over 12,500 Exchange members and other California citrus growers in controlling distribution of the crop, the large 1930-31 crop should be marketed at fair prices. It is certain that if the California citrus industry was depending upon speculative distribution methods the present crop could not be marketed.
"Retail and wholesale margins throughout the United States and Canada have been materially reduced. With the large California citrus supply available, and the big demand for this fruit created by the Exchange, the trade is assured of a record California orange business during 1931," concluded Mr. King.
Shipments of oranges and grapefruit from all producing sections of the United States and receipts from Porto Rico and Cuba for the four weeks ending December 20 will exceed 15,500 cars,
supplies through one mall and assuring better distribution. Sunkist advertises service campaign is below the growers' cooperative greatest possible demand citrus in the face of of oranges and grapefruit has ever produced.

ORANGE OUTLOOK FOR 1931
Severe Test of Marketing Ability is Forecast
A record Navel crop is being shipped from Central and Northern California to fill the Christmas stocking, according to Dana C. King, orange sales manager of the California Fruit Growers Exchange, and combined California and Florida December shipments of oranges and grapefruit are heavier than ever before.
"The Central and Northern California Navel crop is considerably larger than earlier estimates indicated," stated Mr. King, "and orange shipments from these districts will approximate 8100 cars, compared with 4750 cars last year and 7025 cars in the big crop year of 1928-29."
"Every effort is being made by the 56 salaried sales officers of the Exchange in the important markets to move this record crop," continued Mr. King, "though the general low buying power evidenced throughout the United States"

Florida oranges are selling in large volume at very low prices. Shipments from Florida of both oranges and grapefruit for the four weeks ending December 20 will approximate 9976 cars, compared with 7656 cars last year and 8342 in 1928. California orange shipments for the same four weeks will amount to 5030 cars, compared with 4204 in 1929 and 5169 in 1928.
The proportion of the early Navel orange crop shipped to date through the Exchange has been larger than usual, giving a maximum concentration of

Engineers Completing
County Water Plans
The engineering board appointed by
the Board of Supervisors to make a new survey of Orange county and prepare a water conservation program has about completed its report, which is to be submitted to the Supervisors. The engineering board is composed of G. A. Elliott and Thomas Means, both of San Francisco, and Prof. B. A. Etcheverry,
of the University of California, Berkeley.
The engineers in their survey have included every stream in the county,
with a view to both flood control and conservation of water, as well as reclamation of sewage water for industrial and agricultural uses. Plans for dams are also included.
In their study the engineers have also included the water which in time will be brought into the county from the Hoover Dam project in addition to which all of the water possible exists.

One of the verses in the Responsive Reading presents the declaration from the Ninety-third Psalm, "The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, ye, than the mighty waves of the sea."
Among the Scripture selections in the Lesson-Sermon are other words of the Psalmist, "God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God;" and the words of the Revelator, "And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many, waters, and as the voice of mighty thundersings saying, Alleluia; for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth."
A correlative passage from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy, states: "There is no power apart from God. Omnipotence has all-power, and to acknowledge any other power is to dishonor God."
The engineers in their survey have included every stream in the county, with a view to both flood control and conservation of water, as well as reclamation of sewage water for industrial and agricultural uses. Plans for dams are also included.
In their study the engineers have also included the water which in time will be brought into the county from the Hoover Dam project in addition to which all of the water possibly obtainable from Orange county resources will be needed for ultimate development of the county, cities and farming districts. There are, it is estimated, 550,000 acres in Orange county which can in the future be developed provided water is available for the purpose.
In selecting sites for dams in Orange county streams, the engineers have not selected any which are on faulty earth sites and none of the dams will cut off the underground flow of streams.
It is hard to learn from the advertising columns of the newspapers that Pat Harrison's billion dollar increase in the cost of living under the new tariff has really showed up.
