NEW UNIFORMS FOR GUARDS Brand new uniforms for every member of the California National Guard will be issued during the first week of January, 1930, has been announced. This spells realization of a dream of the National Guard of having one good uniform for parade, inspection and drills, and another for field training and rifle rage purposes. The old uniforms will be left with the National Guard until they wear out. Allowances to units for repairs and renovation have been greatly reduced, to cover only essential laundering and half-soling of shoes, in view of the new uniform issue. Boys and Girls on Parole California now has more boys and girls on parole or furlough from its state reform schools than are in actual attendance at schools. Such is the report of Earl J. Jensen, state Director of Institutions, who says three correctional schools, at Preston, Whittier and Ventura, have an inmate population of 1,027, while 1,237 are on parole.
