CHRISTMAS MESSAGE TO DISABLED VETERANS In keeping with established custom in 'American Legion circles, State Adjutant James K. Fisk, on behalf of the state department of the World war veterans' organization, has sent forth a Christmas time message to the members of the Legion and to the wounded and disabled veterans in the various hospitals of the government in this state. "If we would serve; if we would live to mark each day some happy action done, let us, men of the American Legion, cast down false witness, fancied hurt and unloyal act that when another year has closed its time we may bravely and proudly say: We have played a bigger part," Fisk declares in his message. "There is a line in our sacred preamble which obligates us, as legionnaires, to strive toward peace and goodwill on earth, an obligation which we repeat from our hearts more than fifty and two times a year as we gather in post meeting. And yet at this particular season of the year those words seem to have a more vibrant meaning, a meaning that shines from the eyes and tingles like some quickening current in the hand clasp of a comrade. Memories of that Christmas day 10 years back, when you and I and those of our allies all seemed truly kin, memories of the ones at home and the murmured prayer for their protection from the scourge then sweeping the land. Yes! those memories still live, for they are deep engraven upon every soul, gracious evidences of the better mould of man." A Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year As WE approach the close of another very successful year we remember with a great deal of gratitude the many courtesies you have shown us and extend best wishes for your health, happiness and prosperity. we remember with a great deal of gratitude the many courtesies you have shown us and extend best wishes for your health, happiness and prosperity. Water Board Meets In Weekly Session Much Business Transacted at Meeting Monday Afternoon The ditch committee reported that Julian Allee had requested that his irrigation water be delivered him through the Placentia avenue line; that he be permitted to connect with a box on this line where same enters the wash near the corner of Placentia avenue and Orangethorpe avenue. The ditch committee recommended that this request be granted upon condition that this company make the connection and Mr. Allee bear all of the expense. Regarding the proposed service line to extend along Placentia avenue south from Chapman avenue, the committee recommended that no action be taken at the present time. Regarding the request of Mr. Shea that a portion of the Anaheim main canal be piped through his place, the committee recommended that no action be taken at the present time. Regarding thepling of that portion of the Palm drive ditch along the James Forbes place for a distance of some four hundred feet, the committee reported that Mr. Forbes would furnish this company a right-of-way for a pipe line,但 would not contribute toward making the change, and recommended that no action be taken at the present time. This committee recommended that a suitable measuring device be constructed for O. H. Schumacher. Upon motion by Annin.seconded by Hansen, the above recommendations by the ditch committee were accepted. B.West.Jr.states that Wood has been communicating with him regarding the possibility of bail for Goodwin.Inasmuch as Goodwin has been convicted of being a killer, small chance for bail is believed to exist. A possibility that the trail may not go back to Santa Ana was seen when West announced that an application for a rehearing by the supreme court would be applied for. West stated that Chief Deputy District Attorney L. W.Blodget would go to Los Angeles.where he would file with Attorney General U.S.Webb an application for a rehearing. The ground for the request,h said is that the higher court's verdict represented only a slight margin in favor of the return of the case to Santa Ana.Four judges voted for the convicted man and three against him.Also.it was pointed out that quotations in the decision apparently are at variance with the records in the case. Goodwin was given a new trial by the supreme court on the ground that Superior Judge E.J.Marks.before whom the case was tried, eirmed in his instructions to the jury.Local legal circles commented on the apparent overthrowing of precedent in this decision. The instructions were based on former cases.it was said, and had been upheld many times by the higher court. The decision granting a new trial also pointed out that Judge Marks had refused to award a new hearing when affidavits were produced purporting to show that Goodwin had been in San Diego at the time of the murder. These affidavits did not put in an appearance during the trial.it was pointed out,and were presented only after the jury had found Goodwin guilty. GREAT RUSH FOR PLATES Blue and gold 1928 license plates are being issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles at Sacramento and its branch offices at the rate of 30,000 a day. Chief Clerk Lon W. Butler estimates. More than 100,000 motorists stood in line during the first three days after the renewal period to receive their new plates and discard the old ones. Meanwhile mail applications are pouring in at Sacramento at the rate of more than 10,000 a day from motorists who desire to shop early and avoid payment of the penalty that will go on after the renewal period closes. The application sent by mail is by far the simplest way to obtain plates. NOTICE OF ASSESSMENT SECTION TWO WATER COMPANY, LOCATION OF PRINCIPAL PLACE OF BUSINESS, ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA.
