Army of Motorists Coming to State Fifty Thousand Expected During Summer Months Another great army of motor tourists from all parts of the globe is chugging its way into California this summer. Records show that 17,260 permits for non-residnet cars were issued by the division during the first six months of 1927. On an average of three persons to a car, this would mean that more than 50,000 persons used motor transportation as the means of reaching the Golden State. This, however, does not nearly represent the total as it is known by division officials that large numbers of cars pass through the state without securing permits, as the law gives them 10 days in which to do so. These tourists left thousands of dollars in California, contributing heavily to the upkeep of the state highways by the payment of the two-cent gasoline tax. The records for the period indicate that almost every state and country was represented by its travelers. Oregon led the list with 3563 cars. Washington was second with 3358. Such far-Eastern states as Ohio and New York sent 445 and 376, respectively. The complete list follows: Alabama ... 28 Alaska ... 9 Arizona ... 810 Arkansas ... 96 Baja (Lower) California ... 2 Belgium ... 2 Canada ... 360 Colorado ... 945 Connecticut ... 25 Delaware ... 4 District of Columbia ... 31 England ... 4 Florida ... 283 France ... 2 Georgia ... 20 Germany ... 1 Guam ... 1 Hawaii ... 91 Idaho ... 436 Illinois ... 596 Texas ... 770 Utah ... 310 Vermont ... 4 Virginia ... 14 Washington ... 3358 West Virginia ... 10 Wisconsin ... 128 Wyoming ... 125 Total ... 17,260 SUPERVISORS' PROCEEDINGS Hearing of the petition of C. PARTNERS IN POWER Specialists have found that the meat proteins not only have as high food value when eaten in a mixed diet as when eaten alone, but that they greatly increase the nutritive value of the cereal or vegetable proteins. Thus the proteins in the bread of a ham sandwich become more nutritious when eaten in combination with the meat.
