Weather Forecast For January Father Ricard Predicts Several Rains for the Month Father Jerome S. Ricard, California's "padre of the rains," has made public his weather predictions for January. He predicted scanty rains for the 3rd although Southern California might not be visited, and stated that rain was due here on the 6th, 7th and 8th. On the 13th and 14th another storm is due, he states, bringing a generous supply of rain both north and south. Clouds, rain and south winds over the whole coastal plain and Arizona are on tap for the 23rd and 24th, the schedule predicts. Father Ricard's complete January schedule forecast follows: New Year's—Generally fair. Saturday—Fair in California, getting cloudy and rainy in British Columbia and Washington. 3rd inst.—A minor depression landing over the Northwest; with some chance of extending to the southward and delivering scanty rains. 4th inst.—Mostly cloudy and raining. 5th inst.—Fair over the central and southern portions of the coast; tiny clouds in the afternoon. 6th to 8th inst.—A disturbance of pronounced character, bringing rain to the general coast: Los Angeles, San Diego, Arizona and New Mexico getting a fair quota. Starting to clear on the 8th. 9th to 11th inst.—Mostly fair along the coast and the interior as far as the Sierras and the Cascades. 12th inst.—Increasing cloudiness; rain over British Columbia and Washington. 13th and 14th inst.—A disturbance of considerable energy entering both by north and south, with a generous supply of rain, the latter not so abundant in Central California, owing to a high pressure regime and the accompanying cold wave. 15th inst.—Clearing over the sections affected by the storm. 16th inst.—A shallow depression arriving over the Northwest, causing cloudiness, scattered rains and the usual south winds; but fair from Southern Oregon this way, even to San Diego. A few clouds from Oregon to Central California. 21st, 22nd inst.—Fair or nearly so this side of the Rocky mountains summit. 23rd, 24th inst.—Recurrence in a mitigated form of a disturbance due to an October factor; clouds, rains, south winds over practically the whole coast and thence to Arizona, with a conjugate in a high northern latitude. 25th inst.—Breaking away under a new menace. 26th inst.—A rather low depression landing over the Northwest and opening its way to the southward, with scattered rains over large sections of the coast, including Los Angeles, San Diego and Arizona. 27th inst.—Subject to the previous storm. 28th inst.—Mostly fair. 29th inst.—Fair. 30th inst.—Arrival of another low-pressure area over the Northwest, with more rains over the low-lying sections of the coast and snow over the mountains. Some of its effects will reach California. 31st inst.—Yet disturbed with cloud and rain. Speaking of Senate filibusters, just think how much more talking there would be if there were still a bar in the capitol building.
