There came the other day in San Juan Capistrano a good old fashioned California law suit. The matter in dispute was a little piece of public land situated near the village, and the court was held in a sequestered valley immediately beneath the shadow of the old mission church, and called since the occurrence of which we speak "Bloody Gulch." Armed each with a little hatchet and drunk with rage they assayed a settlement by knocking out each other's brains. It is needless to mention their non-success, for, in the first place their points of law were not well taken and in the second place they had no brains.
From March, 1872, to the first of the present year, or in other words during the incumbency of Sheriff Rowland the records of the county jail show that there have been arrested for various crimes 544 persons. Among these the number indicted for murder and manslaughter foots up forty-four, whilst those accused of these crimes now in San Quentin only number 16 persons. The sheriff has evidently performed his duties well. But how about the juries?
Tustin City Items—A New Years Ball was held at the Tustin City School house. About thirty couples were in attendance and everybody enjoyed themselves hugely. Supper was served at the hotel by Mr. Utt and the table was supplied by every delicacy. The Tustin City string band supplied the music. On the same evening the school district was presented with a fine clock by Mr. C. Tustin.
Among the many new buildings, which are now in course of erection we have often heard of Mr. Reiser's brewery, but had not the slightest idea what a mammoth concern it will be, until passing in that vicinity a few days ago. Our idea had been before that it might come something like this:

Brazil: A cement plant is to be erected in Rio Grande, capitalized at one million five hundred thousand dollars. The Para State Government has granted a concession for erection of a pearl button factory. Another concession has been given in a city not named for a textile factory to utilize cotton waste. The Federal Government of Brazil has authorized construction of a blast furnace in Santa Barbara. Among the public utilities is a water system for Coara, and a law making it obligatory for all buildings to use the same. The President of the State of Sergipe has recently recommended the construction of several lines of railroad in that State.
Argentina: A public works program involving nearly three millions has been favorably reported on. The gas company at Rosario (population three hundred and fifty thousand) has ceased functioning and there appears to be a good chance for a concession to a new gas and electric company. The Vickers interests have made a proposal to the Government for the construction of a shipyard at Buenos Aires. In neighboring Uraguay the contract for the construction of an international bridge over the Yaguaron River between Uruguay and Brazil has been awarded. The municipality of Montevideo asks bids on sewerage and drainage works involving thirty seven thousands meters of cement piping, estimated cost about two million two hundred thousand dollars.
Colombia; The Giradot bridge conwill result. To list all the projects proposed or under way would require a volume, but few which have been reported by the Department of Commerce during the past month are given as examples.

The Para State Government has granted a concession for erection of a pearl button factory. Another concession has been given in a city not named for a textile factory to utilize cotton waste. The Federal Government of Brazil has authorized construction of a blast furnace in Santa Barbara. State aids to these projects, if duplicated in the United States would wreck the political party responsible therefor.
