PLAN MEETING TO
DISCUSS WATER PROBLEMS
Officials of Southern Counties to
Hold Joint meeting
The board of County, and officials of the county and some of the counties inland land will be convened soon for discussion on water issues from the Colorado river to information about them.
Date of the conference is in which it will be held selected. It was introduced by the gathering would be held in Long Beach.
The $40,000,000 program projected for the Los Angeles county flood control district and the proposed plan of augmenting the Southern California water supply by bringing in more miner's inches of water across the desert from the Colorado river, has served to bring to the forefront the subject of a water supply adequate to the rapid growing population of the area between the mountains and the sea.
Both of the gigantic projects, one involving a series of dams across the canyon mouths in the mountains, the other involving an aqueduct to the Boulder dam above the Needles on the Colorado river, will necessitate bond issues of considerable size and, in addition, will require joint action on the part of the national government the flood control district, the cities of Long Beach and Los Angeles and numerous other interests.
It is to lay this situation before the taxpayers and property owners of the territory involved that they plan for a water conservation conference has committed by ourselves or our fore-bears."
Stock, who declared he is a Russian Jew, said he terms his religion astrology. His believes that all are born under a certain star, and that the destinies of men are controlled by such stars. These stars are under control of a divine one whom Stock refers to when questioned regarding it he under which he is held. Stock added all knowledge of the accident:
"I know nothing whatever about the accident. If my car ran over the hill someone else, unknown to me, was driving it."
He intimated that "his man" might have been driving the car, but Stock failed to reveal the identity of "his man."
SOUTH AFRICAN ORANGES
In a recent issue of the Farmer's Weekly, Bloemfontein, South Africa, the editor writes of farms and orchards recently visited in Rhodesia. Of one in the famous Mazoe Valley he says: "For eight miles along the main canal one sees orchard upon orchard of citrus, in perfect alignment, well grown, well cared for, liberally watered. But while these contain 70,000 trees and cover a thousand acres, another thousand acres, also under irrigation, are less conspicuously devoted to lucerne, oats, wheat and fodder crops. Including future developments farther down the valley and including the holdings of other landholders, the area eventually irrigable will be about 10,000 acres.
"Among the orange varieties grown are Washington Navel, Joppa, Jeffra Du Roy, Mediterranean Sweet and are being late termine long practice under this year to 600 cases and sons that figure than doubled. Built packing about 500 cases with Electric parted from Crestrict.

It is to lay this situation before the taxpayers and property owners of the territory involved that the plan for a water conservation conference has been proposed.
Yet the matter of flood control, important as it is, is said to be less vital than the broader phase of water conservation since this would create genuine flood control by impounding the flood waters at their source in the mountains and would, in addition, make the water available for irrigation purposes and for replenishing the underground gravel beds which furnish the supply for the rapidly shrinking artesian area.
Among the interests and organizations which probably will be invited to attend and take part in the proposed conference are the United States harbor engineer, the Los Angeles County, Orange County and San Bernardino County supervisors; the Los Angeles County farm bureau; the San Gabriel valley rancher association; the Los Angeles County regional planning commission; the Harbor chamber of commerce; representatives of all the municipalities of the San Gabriel valley and the south of Whittier to the harbor, and all chamber of commerce officials for organizations interested in growth and future development of this entire section.
SMALL FORTUNE FOUND
IN A WOODEN LEG
So Officers Declare After Frisking a Prisoner
"I'm much obliged for the compliment, but I haven't got $13,000 cash nor have I the $50,000 on deposit in any bank, as has been reported found by Deputy Sheriffs Fox and Shultze of Los Angeles. If I did have this sum, or any considerable amount, do you suppose that I would be having so much trouble raising $1,000 ball?"
This was the statement of Charles S. Stock, of Santa Ana, self-styled author and exponent of right living who is under arrest charged with failure to render aid after running down Florence Alsup, of Santa Ana.
This was the statement of Charles S. Stock, of Santa Ana, self-styled author and exponent of right-living, who is under arrest charged with failure to render aid after running down Florence Alsup, of Santa Ana, December 18. He is held prisoner at the County Hospital, because of asserted afflictions which make his detention in the County Jail impossible.
According to Stock, he had less than $100 when arrested in Los Angeles. Officers claim they found $13,000 in a leg-brace worn by Stock, and a bank book showing $50,000 deposits.
"Thirteen thousand dollars!" echoed Stock. "And carrying that around in an artificial leg? What, when there are bonds in which a man could invest this sum and receive substantial interest on his money? And $50,000 in the bank."
"Bunk! Pure Bunk! Good press agent stuff for Fox," Stock said, referring to business for him. He had $13,000 in my life. If I did have it use it help suffering humanity. That's what I would devote myself to, anyway—helping mankind.
"Look at me! I am what the physicians call a boneless herring."
"I am the wonder of the medical world. Although I have been operated upon 186 times, been treated by 340 doctors, and been in 128 hospitals I am a living monument to the efficacy of the triumph of Divine Love over material suffering.
"When I am suffering greatest pain, I find solace in the knowledge that there is a greater power than we may mortals, who know over suffering and is only exacting just payment for sins."
RESTRICTED IMMIGRATION
In supporting senate bill No. 35, which would further restrict the immigration of aliens intelligible to citizenship, Senator Shortridge has brought down upon his head the wrath of the editor of the San Jose News.
In an editorial some time ago, characterizes Shortridge's support of the bill as a cheap and dirty game, disgraced and an appeal to mob sentiment.
In the fact of the support given the anti-alien land law by California voters, this attitude on the part of the News is indeed surprising.
We venture to suggest that if the News editor would make a trip into those parts of the state that have been turned over to aliens he could easily see why Californians do not want them.
One has to but see the result of such tenancy, where rapid deterioration is not only divesting the property of all improvements but is having a more deteriorating effect on the formality of the lands, to be convinced that California cannot tolerate such conditions.
It is unfortunate that so many of our land owners cannot see that the few additional dollars received from these being laid out for the further determination of the best fertilizing practice under local conditions.
This year the owners exported 50,000 cases, and within the next two seasons that figure is expected to be more than doubled. The substantial brick blink packing house has a capacity of about 500 cases a day, and is equipped with electric power machinery imported from California.
IT HAS ACTED EFFECTIVELY IN MANY CASES IN Anaheim. Follow the advice of Anaheim citizen.
Dr. Jordan, carpenter, 319 S. Philadelphia St., says: "My work is strain on my kidneys and back. I had attacks of backache and a soreness across my kidneys that made it hard for me to do any stooping or lifting work. My kidneys acted irregularly but Doan's Pills bought at Anaheim's Pharmacy, soon after motor backache and put my kidneys in good condition. Always rebounded Doan's, for I know they are just as represented. Price 600 at all dealers. Don't simply ask for a kidney, remedy get Doan's Pills — the same that Mr. Jordan said.
