OIL FIELD NOTES
Oil field operations reported week ending December 9, show 26 new wells started, compared with 33 previous week. The total new wells this year is 1367, as compared with 1244 the same date last year. Tests for water shut-off 39, compared with 32 previous week. Total to date 1614; total to same date last year 1350. Deepening or redrilling jobs 14, compared with 18 preceding week. Total to date this year 739; total to same date last year 643. Abandonments 7, compared with 5 preceding week. Total to date this year 255, total to same date last year 204.
The week closed with no big producers to the credit of the Santa Fe Springs field. However, there are a number of wells on the eve of completion that will give the wonder high gravity field a thrill in a few days. With the exception of about a half dozen companies all the operators at Santa Fe Springs have a tremendous amount of new work scheduled and getting underway. About 25 new wells were spudded in and started to drilling last week. Almost every section of the field is dotted with new rigs.
The Coalinga-Mohawk Oil company has about satisfied itself and other operators that the north front of the Santa Fe Springs field is doubtful territory and has turned its attention to the development of the south central section. The Coalinga-Mohawk company has taken over the Lamb property and the Santa Fe Springs Mutual. Both wells on these properties will be put on production by new own-half and two years ago. All of the Ashton wells, two on the Davenport and the famous Huff well are among those on which work has already commenced.
The Standard Oil company has two deep wells that will have something to say about the southwest section of the field before many days. Talbert No. 1 is approaching 4900 feet, and the long looked for Farnsworth well is ready to drill the cement out of the 4 1-4 at 4860 feet and test out. On the Huntington Beach property section B No. 12 at 4400 feet is showing considerable oil and gas and gives promise of a nice well.
Huntington Beach has made tremendous advances as an oil field during the past month and gives promise of hurrying Santa Fe Springs for second field production honors before the end of the year. The daily output of Huntington Beach climber to 65,000 barrels and there are enough deep wells nearing completion to put the figure up to the 100,000 mark.
Bellflower has become the center of attraction now and indications are more than assuring that will be southern California's next oil field. Less than three months ago this section was not looked upon with much favor and considered somewhat a joke. The joke is now on the operators who are trying to get holdings in the field. The possibilities of comparative shallow production at Bellflower were shown by the excellent showings of oil secured at 1300 feet, at 1700 and at 1860 feet. As much as ten feet of oil sand was passed through and it is believed this shall low showing would make a commercial well. It is the intention of the Cal-Petro Oil Producers' syndicate, the completed at a depletion is producing 28. The big well will be to a steady flow of "Pop" Schneider, ager for the Ample Company, superintendent bringing in of this him is due a share joyed by the Ma-cate.
The Casa Blanca led by J. J. Donley sor of an 1800 ba Beach. The Donley interest to have a great deal Santa Fe Springs be making it up field.
One of the most week's developments is the announcement the old Fischer O to be drilled. A located on the exe hill, was abar The Henderson I has taken a contr to 4500 feet, and production. Recce redrilling and on the south slope ing up of the Fischer deepening work w great interest. It that the Fischer O determined effort a year ago, spend on the well, and at that time to a to preclude any a producer.
Both wells on these properties will be put on production by new owners and additional wells drilled on each of the holdings.
The famous Hamilton No. 4 is gratifying its owners with a daily production of 1850 barrels. The big well took a little drop a few weeks ago, and showed some water. A Delaney oil and emulsion separator was installed at the well and the production has not only been increased, but is going into the tanks at less than one per cent cut.
The Petroleum Producers' Oil company's well No. 1 has failed to hold up to its initial production by several hundred barrels per day and the well will be deepened at once and put down to the Meyer sand. The Meyer sand is looked upon as the hope of the field and many of the early producers that have seemingly drained the Bell sand are being redrilled to the lower strata.
The Union Oil company's Flood No. 1, the well scheduled to prove up the extreme northwest front of the Santa Fe Springs field, has passed the 5100 foot mark without finding anything of special encouragement. The Union Oil company is continuing the drilling with great care, take core samples often and watching the formation changes closely.
Huntington Beach is getting into the big well field class rapidly. Just this last week two 1600 barrel producers were brought in. The Amalgamated Oil company brought in one of the Miley-Keck wells at a depth of 4636 feet. The Miley-Keck producer is No. 4 and is making 27 gravity oil.
The Holly Oil company duplicated the Amalgamated Oil company's producer with a 1600 barrel well at No. 1. The Holly Oil company drilled No. 1 to 3400 feet early in the field's development and got only a small well.
It is the intention of the Cal-Petro Oil Producers' syndicate, the pioneers of the Bellflower field, to go on down and get a deep sand. The Cal-Petro company expects to get a big producing sand at 2800 feet. Drilling is now at 2100 feet and it will not be many days before the company's prediction will be verified.
The outlook at Seal Beach has improved considerably in the last few days. The drilling is now at 4400 feet in shale mixed with sand that looks like oil sand. It is believed that if production is developed at Seal Beach it will be around the 4500 foot mark. The Seal Beach Oil company is making a splendid drilling record and those who are backing the concern have the satisfaction of seeing their money go into successful hole making.
The week just closed has been the biggest in the history of the Long Beach field for gushers, real gushers, the four and five thousand barrel kind. The Marine Oil company started the big well program with a 4300 barrel producer at No. 7. This big well was finished at 3790 feet and marks the Marine Oil company's greatest success at Long Beach. This company entered the Long Beach territory less than a year ago, and has developed in that comparatively short time a 10,000 barrel production.
Harry Macmillan and J. J. Davis stepped into the Long Beach field a few months ago comparatively unnoticed. Today these two private operatos have the greatest oil producer the Long Beach field has yet produced. The Macmillan-Davis syndicate on Brayton avenue, just 250 feet away from the Marine gusher brought in a well with an estimated initial production of 5000 barrels daily. The Macmillan-Davis syndicate well was
The Holly Oil company duplicated the Amalgamated Oil company's producer with a 1600 barrel well at No. 1. The Holly Oil company drilled No. 1 to 3400 feet early in the field's development and got only a small well. The success of the White Behr Petroleum syndicate showed the Holly Oil company what the territory was good for and immediate deepening followed. The getting of a 1600 barrel producer marks the greatest success of the Holly Oil company at Huntington Beach. The Holly Oil company's development work is under the supervision of William Kammerer, formerly field superintendent for the Amalgamated Oil company in the Brea and Olinda fields.
Oregon capital has located at Huntington Beach. The company formerly known as the Wing Oil company has been re-organized and now bears the name of the Huntington Beach Oil company of Oregon. Drilling is underway at 3100 feet and the intention is to go to the deep sand.
The Huntington Signal Oil company, the company that figured in the early development of Huntington Beach under the management of "Silent" Joe Erwin, is about to bring in a deep producer. The Huntington Signal Oil company has completed its No. 1 in the deep sand at close to 4400 feet. A good well is expected.
The Shell Oil company of California has instituted a deep drilling campaign at Huntington Beach that practically includes all the well drilled and put on production a year and a
ANAHEIM GAZETTE
completed at a depth of 3875 feet and is producing 28 gravity, clean oil. The big well will probably settle down to a steady flow of 4500 barrels daily. "Pop" Schneider, former field manager for the Amalgamated Oil company, superintended the drilling and bringing in of this great yell, and to him is due a share of the success enjoyed by the Macmillan-Davis syndicate.
The Casa Blanca Oil company, headed by J. J. Donley, is now the possessor of an 1800 barrel well at Long Beach. The Donley well was completed at a depth of 3415 feet, and is a McKeon Drilling company product. The Donley interests so far has failed to have a great deal of success in the Santa Fe Springs field, but seem to be making it up in the Long Beach field.
One of the most interesting of the week's developments at Long Beach is the announcement of the fact that the old Fischer Oil company's well is to be drilled. A year ago this well, located on the extreme south side of the hill, was abandoned at 4420 feet. The Henderson Petroleum syndicate has taken a contract to drill the well to 4500 feet, and share in half the production. Recent development in the redrilling and deepening of wells on the south slope warrants the opening up of the Fischer well and the deepening work will be watched with great interest. It will be remembered that the Fischer Oil company made a determined effort to get production a year ago, spending a lot of money on the well, and carrying the drilling at that time to a point that seemed to preclude any chance of obtaining a producer.

Ed Herwick's outpost well, the well that has been scheduled to extend the southwest section of the field, has not come up to expectations on production as yet. Drilled to 4325 feet the well is flowing an average of 300 barrels daily. Sand is giving the well a lot of trouble. It is the consensus of opinion that more hole will bring the production up to a good well.
The discovery property on Signal Hill is yielding a handsome production. At Alamitos No. 5, the Shell Oil company brought in a well that is making 3850 barrels daily. This big producer was completed at 4190 feet, and shows what the lower zone of the Alamitos lease will do on deep drilling.
