OIL FIELD NOTES Oil field operations reported for the week ending November 25, show 31 new wells started, as compared with 47 during the previous week. The total new wells this year is 1308, as compared with 1187 the same date last year. Test for water shut-off 20, compared with 30 previous week. Yearly total to date 1543; total to same date last year 1303. Deepening or redrilling jobs 12, compared with 9 preceding week. Total to date this year 707; total to same date last year 616 Abandonments 5, compared with 4 preceding week. Total to date this year 243, total to same date last year 190. Huntington Beach is now claiming a large share of the attention of oil operators and the public. In the last week the field has taken on more new development operations than the past year has shown, and the production has climbed to the almost unbelievable figure of 65,000 barrels daily. The Amalgamated Oil company's Miley-Keck No. 11 is cited as an example of what wells are doing at Huntington Beach. This well was completed two months ago at a depth of 4213 feet. At the time of completion the well did not attract a great deal of attention, starting out at 1400 barrels per day. The production increase has been steady and now after two months the well is making 2960 barrels daily. The old Texcal Oil coopany will be in the running strong again in a few redrilled and put down into the deep sand and are yielding 1000 and 1500 barrels. One of the biggest wells brought in last week at Long Beach was the product of one of the smallest companies in the district. The Capital Oil company brought in its No. 1 at 3500 feet as a 3000 barrel well. The Capital Oil company, backed by Riverside capital, entered the Long Beach section long after development work had gotten under way and secured only a small parcel of property near the top of the hill. The property had proven very valuable and this little company is now numbered among a half a hundred others who found the Long Beach field a bonanza for the small operator. The Capital Oil company's big producer was drilled and put on production by the Wigle-McBride Drilling company. To the Cooper Petroleum company will be given the credit for extensive exploration on the north side of the Long Beach field. The Cooper Petroleum company took over what was formerly known as the "Avocao Well" and failed to make a producer at 3800 feet and drilling on to 4050 feet some good oil showings are in evidence that the deep sand will be picked up and a good well realized. L. Herwick has the satisfaction of seeing his convictions materialize when his No. 7 started off flowing at the rate of 2000 barrels daily. Herwick No. 7 is one of the famous wells of the Long Beach field. This well was located when the northwest front was purely wildcat and the rig stood out fully a half a mile from the center of production. THE BONUS Now that the election whether it the bonus was an election naturally rose There was, as all surprising absence few or none of them were disposed to covevery frankly. The old Texcal Oil coopany will be in the running strong again in a few months. The holdings of the Burk and Grant properties have been taken over by L. T. MacMahon and "Can" McCutcheon, the wells will be redrilled and deepened and some real production developed. MacMahon is an experienced oil man and McCutcheon is the man who drilled all the big wells for the Republic Petroleum company. Texcal stockholders can expect some big results from these men and perhaps get some dividends some day. The record well brought in by the Petroleum Midway company on the Columbia 1.1 property is holding up splendidly and signifies that the deep production now being developed at Huntington Beach is not pocket or flush. Columbia 1.1 came in at 3440 barrels per day and has settled down to 3200 barrels. Volmer-Meyer No. 3, another big one rated last week at 2200 barrels daily, has increased its output to 2700 barrels. The Union Oil company got a nice producer in the deep sand on the Brooks lease. Brooks No. 2, drilled to 4545 feet, came in a 2400 barrel producer and is standing up nicely. The new well is making 28 gravity oil and is one of the best the Union Oil company has succeeded in bringing in at Huntington Beach. Huntington Beach production was increased 2300 barrels by the Standard Oil company's two wells, Huntington B.10, an 800 barrel producer at 4483 feet, and Jones community No. 2, a 1600 barrel well, completed at 4360 feet. Much interest is attached to the Standard Oil company's Farnsworth No. 1, now standing cemented at 4860 feet. Should this well make a commercial producer, and it look like it will, it takes the honor of the deepest producing well in the county. With the Union Oil company's Downey community well nearing the 4500 L. Herwick completed this test well at 4325 feet. Evidently the hard luck and ill fate the Oceanic Oil company experienced with its first well at Long Beach is not going to retire the little company from the field. The rig for the ill fated No.1 has been moved to a new location, a rig is up for a third well, and a location has been staked for a fourth: The Oceanic Oil company is backed by one Jack McKeon, who has earned a reputation that is enviable for staying with the game when things look the blackest. Under McKeon's management the Oceanic Oil company will become one of the substantial producing companies of the Long Beach field. The Petroleum Midway company, gave the Long Beach operators a real thrill by bringing in the field's biggest producer so far. The record well was completed on the Ryder property at a depth of 3838 feet. This giant well started off at 4200 barrels per dry and was throttled down to 3500 barrels. With the addition of this big well the Petroleum Midway company's Long Beach production jumped up to 20,000 barrels, giving the company second place on the production list of the hill. The success of the Petroleum Midway company in the field has been little short of marvelous. Coming into the field at a time when it appeared that most of choice holdings had been taken up, the Petroleum Midway company selected with care a number of properties and all of them have resulted in big production. The Shell Oil company has just put its fortiest producer on. Cherry Hill No. 3, completed at 3650 feet, went on production a few days ago at 2100 barrels daily. The new well brings the Shell company's daily output up to 28,000 barrels. It will be noted that 40 wells producing 28,000 barrels makes a very high individual well availance that deep sand will be picked up and a good well realized. AMES & McFADDY Attorneys for Ex e l1-23-5t With the Union Oil company's Downey community well nearing the 4500 foot mark, the outlook for a field at Downey is taking on a doubtful aspect. The Union Oil company is drilling a careful test well and will find the oil if the oil is there to be found. So confident that Bellflower is the next southern California oil field, the Cal-Perto Oil Producers' syndicate has started its second well before the first had gotten down 1500 feet. Officials of the Cal.-Petro company have done some exhaustive work with radio activity in connection with the location of oil bearing structure and are satisfied that Bellflower has what they are looking for. The Standard Oil company's Buena Park well is quietly drilling at 5400 feet, and has found nothing that would justify any rush for holdings. For the first time in the history of the oil development at Long Beach, the production has gone over 100,000 barrels per day. The latest authentic production figures credits the Long Beach territory with a 110,000 barrel production. The steady increase in the output is due to the western extension of the field and the deepening of old producers on the hill top. West extension producers are now coming in at 2500 and 3000 barrels. Former producers on the top of Signal hill that have dwindled to a few hundred barrels daily, have been The Shell Oil company has just put its fortiest producer on. Cherry Hill No. 3, completed at 3650 feet, went on production a few days ago at 2100 barrels daily. The new well brings the Shell company's daily output up to 28,000 barrels. It will be noted that 40 wells producing 28,000 barrels makes a very high individual well average. Interest in the Standard Oil company's Torrance well lies in the fact that it is the deepest test hole ever drilled in southern California. Last week the drill passed the 5900 foot mark and no oil showings of any importance have been found. The hole figures out a mile and two hundred yards. This hole should satisfy all parties concerned as to the possibility of oil being located in that region. Athens on the Hill has lost temporarily at least the honor of becoming southern California's next oil field. The Potter Oil company has suspended drilling after going to a depth of 4520 feet and not finding anything that looked like oil. No doubt there will be some criticism on the part of some because the Potter company did not go on. But the well from the start presented conditions that were not very encouraging, and the Potter Oil company was justified in not continuing. It is believed that some work will be done on the west side of the hill later. The Seal Beach Oil company's test well has passed the 4000 foot mark and those interested are becoming just a bit anxious about the outcome of the well. The drilling is now under the supervision o f R. S. Crans, former Petroleum Midway operator, and he will find it if the oil is there. There was, as all will readily admit, a surprising absence of discussion, and few or none of the old-line partisans were disposed to consider the question very frankly. In fact, there was probably no matter in the whole list of issues that received less direct attention during the contest. The bonus may have been present in a good many minds during the voting and some bonus advocates now try to show that it was actually a contributing cause of the Repuolican defeat. In so doing they seem to have a rather difficult task and one which they are not able to carry out with much success. It is only by assuming a good deal and applying a process of analysis which smacks of the higher mathematics that they are able to get anything that looks like a pro-bonus interpretation of the election outcome. From this, however, some of them are disposed to augur that there was a definite "mandate" on the part of the voters to pass the bonus. Probably the bonus will never die out as an issue. What some of the presidential candidates think of it is shown by the McAdoo advocacy of the plan during the past few days. It will be appealed to by schemers who want employment in working for the bonus or by politicians who seek to curry favor and get office. In this respect it will run parallel to the pension issue of former years. The experience of the past season, however, shows that the bonus cannot be made a national issue. It neither figured in California, described as follows, to wit: Commencing at the Southeast corner of the intersection of Lemon street and Santa Ana street, running thence Southerly along the Easterly line of Lemon street 200 feet; thence Easterly parallel with Santa Ana Street 130 feet; thence northerly parallel with Lemon Street 200 feet to the Southerly line of Santa Ana Street; thence Westerly along the Southerly line of Santa Ana Street 130 feet to the point of beginning, and being a part of Vineyard lot "G4" as shown on a Map of Anaheim, recorded in Book 4 of Deeds, pages 629 and 630, Records of Los Angeles County, California.
