A. Yungbluth Miss Frances Schmidt was a guest of friends in Los Angeles Tuesday. County Clerk J. M. Backs was in town this week on a brief business mission. W. B. Holland, of the Holland Electric company, left Monday for Pennsylvania, on a visit to his parents and other relatives. He will make an extended trip through the east before returning. Mrs. L. W. Kirby, of Los Angeles, is a guest of her sister, Mrs. Adolph Rimpau. Mrs. Kirby is a former resident of this city, is a daughter of one of the pioneer families, and has many warm friends here, who are delighted to meet with her again. A. S. Feagan, formerly a resident here, died at his home in Los Angeles Saturday. Funeral was held at Backs & Terry's Tuesday afternoon, the remains being buried in Anaheim cemetery. He and his brother-in-law, R. E. Vaughn, at one time owned and operated the Anaheim feed mill. Buena Park Masons had charge of the services at the grave. The fire department was called to the corner of Palm and Chestnut streets at noon Friday to extinguish a blaze in the rear of the home of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Schulte. A rubbish fire had communicated with the fence and a garage, and promised to be an expensive blaze, but Fred Garrison, who lives next door, had gained control of the situation with a garden hose before the fire boys reached the scene. Jack Brennan and William Theeks, of New York City, were in town this week looking for a location for a large manufacturing enterprise. Steward, who was scheduled to address the farm center at the high school Tuesday evening, was confined to his bed at the time with a severe cold, and unable to attend. He will probably make the address some time in the future. The girls' basketball team of the high school defeated Tustin high school on the local grounds Monday by a score of 54 to 6. The Anaheim team went up to Hollywood yesterday afternoon to play a practice game with the high school team of the movie town. The Anaheim ball team dropped a game to Long Beach on the Fullerton grounds Sunday, the score being 7 to 6. The Anaheim team will play every Sunday during the winter when the weather permits, and Manager Knott expects to line up some classy adver-saries. Gatti, of the Gatti market, has decorated his place of business with a mammoth mounted elk head, which a friend sent him from Montana. The animal weighed 900 pounds, had white-tipped antlers, and was supposed to have been exalted ruler of his herd. Mrs. F. C. Benjamin entertained the Euchre club at her home on Zeyn street. Thursday, about twenty members of the club being present. Mrs. Adolph Rimpau made the high score at cards, Mrs. J. J. Dwyer, second,and Mrs. S. Lybarger received the consolation prize. A surprise party assembled at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kohler, on Lincoln avenue, last Friday evening and spent the time singing, playing and eating the supplies brought in by the guests. The party was such an enjoyable affair that it was decided to form a "Chili Bean club" and meet weekly. At the close of the taxpaying period it was found that only $900.34 of the city's taxes was delinquent. The total levy was $75,520.02. Of this amount there was paid to the tax collector $68,491.78, and to the assessor $5916.90, leaving only $900.34 delinquent. This is an excellent showing. Refreshments were served at the close of the game of progressive euchre. The first prize was won by Mrs. Adolph Rimpau, the second by Mrs. J. J. Dwyer and the consolation by Mrs. Lybarger. Through the C. B. Berger Co., of this city, the Jotham Bixby Co. has sold 13 1-2 acres at Villa Park to William Lusk, of Orange. The property is set to Valencias, and is part of the Cerro Villa Heights tract. Mr. Lusk is one of the pioneer citrus growers of Orange, having owned and lived on a highly productive grove on East Collins street for many years. A son at Uplands is planning on making his home on the newly acquired grove in the near future. The Orange County Automobile Trades' association held a get-together banquet at the high school cafeteria in this city Tuesday night, 250 persons being present. Employers and employees were in attendance, the keynote of the meeting being the proper relationship of the auto dealers and their employes to the public. Speakers on the program were J. F. Thompson, branch manager of the Willys-Overland and Pacific company, Los Angeles; M. E. Drum, character analyst of San Francisco, and H. J. Banta, manager of the Welnstock-Nichols company, of Los Angeles. Center St. Phone 166 Tim Graham, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Graham, who is in the aviation service, stationed at Honolulu, came home some days ago on a furlough, and will remain here until after the holidays. In addition to being an aviator Tim is acquiring a reputation as an athlete, judging from a letter written by him on Aug. 2, and a copy of the Honolulu Advertiser, giving an account of the games. "If you will look at the Advertiser," he wrote, "you will see the aviators won the lead in the contests and kept it throughout. You will also see that I stood number three. On the front page you will see where we broke the navy record by seven seconds." Tim will be remembered as the boy who lost an ear in a mixup with J. D.
