A POINT OF VIEW
By ALBERT ABBOTT
Genuine Music and Real Art
Not Popular
Our pianos are heaped high with senseless slush. The old popular songs of sentiment, even the picturesque ragtime of a few years ago, have vanished, and we have instead blatant orgies of sound of the Ja-da, Da-da, monkey talk and jungle sounds that mean nothing to the mind but may convey endless significance to the animal nature—mere grunts and squeaks and gasps, suggestive of cave men or gorillas reveling in their beastilliness. The "music" in almost any respectable parlor would give the alienist material for a whole survey of the degeneracy of modern taste. As for art, what most claims that high name today is mere looseness daubed with paint and decked with bits of Nietzsche's phraseology. Philosophy has become a mere moulting at divinity. And "self-expression" is the idol to which the people bow themselves, when "self-control" at its hardest will barely save them alive. A newspaper has pictured with pathetic comedy a Boy Scout pleading with his mother to give up smoking cigarets!

We all seem to be actuated by a motive to get the best of the other fellow. If the other fellow should get the best of us first, then we hate, are vindictive, and intensely desire revenge. Thus it goes on like a circle, no end to the game.
We lack the Christ spirit in our lives—our individual, personal, private lives. On a Sunday we go to church and hear the minister preach about the love and kindness of Jesus, and yet we don't seem to want to put the teachings of the Sermon on the Mount into practice. Why? What do we go to church for?
There's no hope for the nations of the world to cease fighting each other until the component units of each nation cease to hold personal hatred in the limited sphere of their own personal lives, because the large collective life of a nation is only a reflection of the individual lives in that nation. If the majority of individuals in any nation practice hating any and all persons that may come in conflict within the immediate circle of one's own personal activities, that nation will be that kind of a nation.
I know a young man in Anaheim who has received the ostricism of two people (rightly or wrongly has nothing to do with the present status of the situation), one an elderly lady and the other a young lady. These two people profess to be followers of the Christ that hated no man, that loved even Judas, yet they give many evidences in public that the young man's past behaviour is not forgiven. The young man has become regenerated, has absolutely disposed, of the old life, and brass and tinkling.
When you think fully you are living. If a person has thought, word, prayers are not with true Christian forgiveness.

Consistency, Thou Art a Jewell!
Some time ago certain republicans were bemoaning the fact that Samuel Gompers was a consistent democrat. The charges they brought against him were that he always was a consistent democrat; that he was a consistent democrat even every two years.
One of the chief reasons for the opposition to Johnson and Hoover has been that they were not consistent republicans.
The inference of the charges brought against Gompers seems to be that he should be inconsistent and be a republican once in a while.
Now, if it is such a crime for Hoover and Johnson to be inconsistent to their party, why isn't it a virtue for Gompers to be consistent with his party? Wouldn't it be just as great a sin for Gompers to break away from his party as it was for Johnson and Hoover to break away from their parties? Hasn't a democrat just as much right to stick to his own party as is desirable for a republican to stick to his own party?
Oh! Consistency! Thou are still a jewel!
The World Is Hateful at Heart
Some time ago two Jewish men canvassed the town of Placentia selling silverware. The deals turned out to be "bunco" deals, the purchasers of the "silverware" did not get what they paid for, so on and so forth. You all know the kind of a game it is.
In regard to the matter, the Placentia Courier at the time said: "It is certain, however, that the next Jewish relief drive will drag slower in Placentia than the last one did."
Now you have it. A movement who has received the ostricism of two people (rightly or wrongly has nothing to do with the present status of the situation), one an elderly lady and the other a young lady. These two people profess to be followers of the Christ that hated no man, that loved even Judas, yet they give many evidences in public that the young man's past behaviour is not forgiven. The young man has become regenerated, has absolutely disposed, of the old life, and is trying to follow the Master all the way. He has made it known to me that he cannot even get a Christ-like smile, a smile that would indicate that the teaching of Christ, to love your enemies, is being obeyed, as well as understood by the head. He says that if these people would not profess to be Christians, it would not be so bad, but to publicly profess to be Christians and then in secret to deny what they profess, is hard for him to bear, because he, himself, has had hates and revenges, but has absolutely turned the other cheek to his enemies, and thus knows that Christ meant what He said to be applicable to everybody—no exception.
A lot of people read the Bible, study the Bible, but what they learn they apply to fit somebody else. God is no Respector of persons. When we stop trying to reform other people and go to work reforming ourselves, the better this world will be.
This case is merely an example. It is like thousands and thousands of others everywhere. We will never get anywhere as a body of people until we forgive our neighbor, until we make peace with our individual, personal enemy. This the heart of Christ's teaching that very few know, if one is to infer by their individual conduct.
This incident in Placentia, and the other incident in Anaheim, are merely illustrations to show why the world is as it is—nations against nations.
We go to church regularly, we read and study the Bible DAILY, but we don't practice the Bible teachings when it comes to intimate, personal consciousness. As member-units of a nation we are willing to forgive and make peace with Germany, but we don't put the same principle into practice in our individual lives. And that's the reason why our peace treaties are mere scraps of paper—there is no sincerity of motive and purpose behind them.
Why hate a wolf because two men not loving you wait until some somebody made not find anything sueer in Christ taught what they right now—to Not only ode PRACTICE this dividal is in teaching. Where where we are praying it—the hopes of being Thy will be done Heaven."
The young man because he has right about face enemies and loses smile of his cause of the Pope express for him.
Instead of having to send out loving And when the rite we ought to have whatsoever of a member of that drive.
So, when, in one crosses our would not be "it is not Christ send out though and vindicative glad if the "engressor has made God."
"Even as ye least of these li lt unto Me." That does not you should love That Bible pass nificance. It has made peace a child of Christ, if we love God's we will have Many of us rejoice of words. We rejoice Christ was a was continually spontaneously to His attention.

Now, you have it. A movement, worthy or otherwise, is to pay for misdeeds committed by two individuals. Where is the logic in casting ignominy upon a race, just because two of its members went astray?
This is just the trouble with the world. It hates the other fellow. In this, what has a possible future relief movement, or given race, got to do with a misdeed of one, two, or more, of the members of the race interested in the movement? If this same logic were applied consistently to other races, even to the race known as American, where would there be any charity, any love, any kindness in the world?
We will always have wars, turmoil and the like until we get to the place where we are willing in our hearts, individually and collectively, to forgive, to give "the other cheek," according to Christian teachings of the Nazareine I am not saying that these two men should be condoned in their wrongs, but I don't see wherein anybody whatsoever is the better because a future event is to pay the penalty for a present misdeed of two members of a certain race. The spirit of forbearance and love is lacking here.
The league of nations will never be anything so long as the units of humanity hold hate and resentment within their individual hearts. A nation
We go to church regularly, we read and study the Bible DAILY, but we don't practice the Bible teachings when it comes to intimate, personal consciousness. Christ has repeatedly taught that we must love those who have done us a wrong. He teaches we should love our enemies, give the other cheek, bless them that curse you, give thy cloak to thy brother, be a Good Smaritan, so on and so forth. They all teach the same potent factor of Love and Forgiveness.
Lots of people say the Lord's Prayer many, many times. But do they mean it when they say with their lips: "and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors"? The word "debts" in the Lord's Prayer does not necessarily mean money debt. There are various kinds of debts. And the prayer includes all. If a person has done you a wrong, that person is in debt to you, because a portion of your happiness has been taken by the intrusion of the wrong. Therefore, the person is in debt to you because that person has something belonging to you. The case may be likewise with you in connection with some other person. So, when you say "and forgive us our debts AS we forgive our debtors," you simply are equalizing and exchanging a debt for a debt in God's great clearing house—the Mind realm of things. This is the only way, providing you mean in the innermost secret chambers of your heart what you say with your lips. Otherwise it is sounding
Many of us reckon words. We re Christ was a child of God, if we love God's we will be.
When we ever don't like in the state, in the neighborhood our own minds these are reflected made manifest.
So, if any one even thou flaunted by a snake shake, in our inner sacred chamber hating, not until from our hearts of the world all any better.
So, when we pray the honest, let's me let's mean it in regardless when not.

IS SHE NEXT FIRST LADY OF LAND?
When you think of a person wrongfully you are in debt to that person. If a person has done you a wrong in thought, word, deed or action, your prayers are nothing unless you say the prayers in your innermost heart with true Christlike understanding and forgiveness.
If we don't practice this great Truth in our own lives, in our neighborhood, in our household, then so long will the world be as it is and always has been.
Human nature is no different now than it was at the time of Jesus' manifestation in the flesh, simply because we have it not in our HEARTS (not in our heads) to lay down our lives for our neighbor, if need be.
Many of us are willing to lay down what we term our lives in a battle, but how few there are of us who are willing to lay down our humiliation and forgiveness to the one whom we consider a great transgressor against our individual happiness. That is what Christ meant when He said about laying down one's life for another. To bear calumny, to smile at the villifier, to kiss the one that epits on you, so to speak, is laying down your life. Christ's laying down His life on the cross was to symbolize the laying down of one's mental life.
We don't love enough. We secretly, in our hearts, all hate someone for some wrong or wrongs that have or may not have been committed against us. And the contemptuous thing about it is we go about in a "better than thou" attitude.
Why hate a whole race of Jews just because two members of that race are not loving you? Christ didn't say to wait until somebody loved you, until somebody made you happy. You cannot find anything of that nature whatsoever in Christ's teachings. He

You cannot find anything of that nature whatsoever in Christ's teachings. He taught what the world is in need of right now—to love the other fellow. Not only odes the world need to PRACTICE this teaching, but each individual is in need of practicing this teaching. When we get to the place where we are practicing—not audibly praying it—then will the world have hopes of being "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth as it is in Heaven."
The young man's case is a good one, because he has absolutely turned right about face, and has loved ancient enemies and longs for the forgiving smile of his present "enemy". Because of the Principle I am trying to express for him.
Instead of hating a race, we ought to send out loving thoughts to the race. And when the next drive comes along, we ought to have no rememberance whatsoever of any past misdeed of a member of that race that is pushing the drive.
So, when, in our personal lives, someone crosses our path that we had hoped would not be "among those present." It is not Christian or Christ-like to send out thoughts of hate, and revenge, and vindicativeness, but we should be glad if the "enemy?" and past transgressor has made peace with Christ and God.
"Even as ye have done it unto the least of these little one's ye have done it unto Me." What does that mean? That does not necessarily mean that you should love children as children. That Bible passage has a symbolic significance. It means that a soul who has made peace with Christ and God. Therefore, if we love this new-born child of God's we will have loved Christ.

SAN FRANCISCO, CAL—Among the spectators at the Democratic National Convention will be Mrs. Mitchel Palmer, wife of the fighting Quaker from Pennsylvania, whose name will be voted on by the delegates for the highest honor the Democratic party can bestow.
Mrs. Palmer at first thought she could not attend the convention and planned to have a telegraph wire run from Palmer headquarters here to her home in Washington, but as the time for the convention drew near she couldn't stay away and is now here with her husband.
Major Oliver P. Newman, secretary of the Palmer Committee, today made the following statement:
* "Evidences of Palmer strength among the delegates to the convention are coming into our headquarters daily, despite the fact that it is still ten days to the opening and that the Democratic hosts are arriving in only small numbers. These evidences, however, together with first hand information received at our headquarters in Washington before we transferred to San Francisco, more than confirm our estimates of the strength of the various candidates made there.
"Palmer leads the field today in the number of delegates actually pledged to him. This is easily determined because there are so few delegates that have been instructed in their respective states. It is officially known, however, that he has Pennsylvania and Georgia, 76 and 28 respectively. While it is not so well known, it is nevertheless true that he has pledges in New England, the South, the Middle West and from scattered states in the Far West that run his total initial strength to a minimum of 450, with a strong possibility of its being even greater.
"No other one candidate has instructed delegates in as great number, the closest being Governor Cox, with Ohio and Kentucky. And no other has anything like the number of privately committed delegates.
"The Republican candidates and the Republican convention made so much noise that many people do not seem to realize that in the meantime Democratic delegates were steadily being selected, and that friends of Mr. Palmer everywhere have not been idle. We have been closely in touch with the situation in every state, and believe that our information is reliable. It is not, therefore, presumptuous for me to call attention to the strong position occupied by the Attorney General today.
"Charles C. Carlin, campaign manager for Mr. Palmer, will arrive in San Francisco Monday and take active charge of the Palmer interests. Mr. Palmer himself will arrive Friday to attend the meeting of the National Committee, of which he is a member."
that we should love children as children. That Bible passage has a symbolic significance. It means that a soul who has made peace with Christ and God is a child of Christ and God. Therefore, if we love this new-born child of God's we will have loved Christ.
Many of us read our Bibles as a book of words. We read from word to word. Christ was a great Symbolizer. He was continually taking incidents that spontaneously presented themselves to His attention and making an allegorical lesson-teaching of His out of them. So, when the children crowded about Him, He instantaneously took advantage of the situation to press home one of His glorious truths. Did you ever read your Bible with this light? Try it. You will find it great. Better than the movies.
When we ever see anything that we don't like in the world, in the nation, in the state, in the county, in the city, in the neighborhood, let us examine our own minds and we will find that these are reflections, are our thoughts made manifest.
So, if any one of us is hating some one, even though that hate be camflaged by a smile, a greeting, a handshake, in our innermost sanctuary of our sacred chambers of our hearts, still hating, not until that hate is eradicated from our hearts will the various affairs of the world above described be made any better.
So, when we go to church, when we pray the Lord's Prayer, let's be honest, let's mean what we say and do, let's mean it in our innermost hearts, regardless whether any one likes it or not.
Now, just see what that Placentia item in the paper has done. It has made me preach a sermon. It's a darn good sermon, too. Give it considera-

"Charles C. Carlin, campaign manager for Mr. Palmer, will arrive in San Francisco Monday and take active charge of the Palmer interests. Mr. Palmer himself will arrive Friday to attend the meeting of the National Committee, of which he is a member, and will remain throughout the convention. His wide acquaintance among Democratic leaders from all parts of the country, and the fact that so many of them are his close personal and political friends," interested in and desirous of his nomination, give assurance that his availability and qualifications as the Democratic nominee will receive full consideration by the Convention.
"The only delegate contest of any moment in Georgia directly concerns the Palmer candidacy, but I have every confidence that we will win it. The Democratic State Committee of Georgia has certified to the National Committee as the Georgia delegate the Palmer ticket, and the National Committee, in publishing members of the convention, list the Palmer delegates as official. The Hoke Smith-Tom Watson delegates are therefore the contestants, but I do not believe there is the slightest possibility of their being sented.
"Contrary to reports published in the East, Palmer will have the solid delegation of seventy-six votes from Pennsylvania behind him, with Vance McCormick, formerly National Chairman, a member and a leader of the Keystone contingent. In the Pennsylvania primaries Palmer won seventy-five of the seventy-six delegates elected, and the one opposing delegate has since announced he will stand by the other seventy-five. Eugene C. Bonnifwell, who led the anti-Palmer fight in Pennsylvania, was defeated for delegate in his home district."
Any representations made by stock salesmen or others to the effect that the commissioner of corporations believes in, ordorses or approves the occult or so-called "witchstick" methods of locating oil or minerals, are absolutely false. I have no time for patience with these age-old superstitions and, while the men who advocate them may be entirely honest in their belief, yet the fact remains that these methods are questionable and I believe, entirely unreliable. Permits to sell the stock of corporations are not issued by the commissioner of corporations based upon any such investigation or representation.
I have formed no definite opinion concerning the accuracy or value of the so-called "Vibratile Motion Instrument" which, I understand, is being used to determine the presence of oil and minerals and any representation made to the effect that this method of locating oil has my approval, are absolutely incorrect.
