Francisco Baura and Joe Acasta were arrested at Santa Ana Saturday on a warrant sworn to Monday by Officer Pond charging them with carrying concealed weapons. A cavalry sabre, two large butcher knives and a .32 calibre rifle were found in the bottom of a trunk which the Mexicans were hauling through the city. They claimed to be on their way to Imperial where they hoped to find employment.
Frank Dyer will leave soon for his annual outing at Anaheim Landing. Frank has taken in all the beach resorts and says the old Landing is the best of them all. The still water bay for swimming is unexcelled and boating upon its placid waters is a pastime much enjoyed. Frank is an expert swimmer and looks forward to his sojourn at the beach with keen delight.

An alarm of fire Saturday afternoon
Mrs. Bell and Mr. and Mrs. George Baker at the West End Friday evening, the occasion being Mrs. Baker's birthday. After spending the evening with cards the hostess served refreshments to their guests.
J. K. Lybarger, swimming instructor and fancy diver of Seal Beach was in town the other day renewing old acquaintances. He announces that his team of canoe football artists, composed of some of the best girl swimmers in the beach district is now ready to take on all comers on the waters of Anaheim Landing.
Jimmy Sutherland, manager of the Pinal Dome Refining company's branch in this city, states that the company is making some extensive improvements at its yards on the Santa Fe tracks. Several new tanks are being added, a pump house erected and a new and larger pump installed, besides other improvements. The company's service station at the corner of Lemon and Center streets is a busy place.
A picture thrown upon the screen at a movie the other day depicted a scene of ten tons of eggs being destroyed by fire by the San Francisco authorities. The eggs had been imported from China and had been condemned by the health board. This is one instance of free trade forcibly brought home to California houses and poultry raisers. Eggs have been placed on the free list and as a result thousands of pounds of the hen fruit have been shipped to the United States from China. Chickens in the flowery kingdom are raised in filthy pens, are feed upon filth and the eggs likewise are not fit to eat. The picture vividly shows why eggs should get back under the wings of a protective tariff.
The Oregon militia passed through this city during Saturday night on their way to San Diego, where the guardsmen went into temporary camp at the Exposition grounds. The militia will be assigned to border duty at Tia Juana and other points along the Mexican boundary. It is estimated between 1000 and 1200 men composed the militia and together with their equipment were carried south over the Santa Fe. It required 22 coaches, divided into two groups, each headed by a parade officer.
George F. Sparks died at his home on Broad street Wednesday, at the age of 68 years. Funeral was held at Backs & Terry's parlors Saturday, services being conducted by Rev. C. H. M. Sutherland.
If you wish to see a perfect darling of a child and a real bear comedian go to the New Grand Friday or Saturday and see Baby Marie Osborn in Little Mary Sunshine. Nothing finer has ever graced a motion picture screen. Take the children with you.
There is no use talking, there are many drivers of gas wagons nowadays who certainly are afflicted with a bad case of speed mania. The bug has got them without a doubt, and that the speed laws should be more rigidly enforced is admitted by all, especially by the meek and lowly pedestrian.
Albert Graham drove a party over to the associated chambers of commerce meeting at Brea the other evening, using his big Cadillac. Albert is an expert at the wheel and took the party over and back without a mishap, and all enjoyed the outing immensely.
Wm. Schumacher and family have returned from their northern trip, and while on their travels in Tuolumne county met Charles Miller, a former resident of this city, who is hale and hearty. Mr. Schumacher visited with friends and relatives in several of the upstate cities and enjoyed the trip to the fullest extent.
Frank Nemetz came in from Victorville the other day to remain here. Frank a few years ago too up a section of land there and has made some improvements thereon. He later opened a restaurant in Victorville which he has conducted up to the time of his departure, at which time he sold out. Frank drove here in his Ford, which he sold upon arrival in this city. Frank says just as soon as water is developed in that country great things will be in store for it. Several settlers have put down wells and have plenty of water. Under present conditions, however the country to a great extent is dry.
When Bert Simpson saw the wild west show strike out on parade at another day he had to leach Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Wallop, Mr. and Mrs. A. Nagel and their son Kenneth, left yesterday morning for a three-weeks' automobile tour of Yosemite. They expected to make Bakersfield by last evening, and will probably reach Fresno some time this afternoon. Then they go to the park, where they will camp and fish to their heart's content.
An alarm of fire Saturday afternoon caused a quick run of the department to the vicinity of North Philadelphia and Sycamore streets. It proved to be a false alarm. Mrs. A. Bevellard, in obedience to Superintendent Sackett's clean-up order, was burning some trash in the yard when the fire threatened to get beyond control and communicate with some buildings. It was extinguished without the aid of the department.
Alexander Burns Annin, one of the oldest residents of Fullerton, died at 3:45 o'clock Wednesday morning after a long period of suffering from pulmonary carcinoma. Annin, who is survived by eight sons and five daughters, all well known in Southern California, was 67 years of age. He owned considerable property in Fullerton and did much to aid the upbuilding of the city. The funeral was held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the home on East Commonwealth avenue, Angus McAuley having charge. Annin resided in Fullerton for twenty-seven years.
Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Heitsheusen went up to Los Angeles Sunday to see the animals at the Selig zoo.
John Kneipp and family came in Friday from Illinois and are visiting at the home of Fred Heying. They came through in an auto, making the trip in twenty days. They expect to locate in Anaheim.
Sam Taylor has a bunch of Lower Californians under his supervision in keeping the Santa Fe tracks in this section in good order that are as fine a body of men of their kind that ever came over the line. One intelligent fellow among the bunch says there is only one way to pacify Mexico and that is for this country to clean it up thoroughly of all the would-be bosses down there and then establish a system of schools and educate the children. It is estimated between 1000 and 1200 men composed the militia and together with their equipment were carried south over the Santa Fe. It required 22 coaches, divided into two sections, each being drawn by double-header engines. The soldiers from the northern state made a fine showing when on parade at San Diego and looked like they would give a good account of themselves upon a battle field. The military band accompanying the guardsmen is pronounced one of the best in the country.
Jack Fullerton of Orange was a business visitor here last week.
A safe deposit box in the average home is considered a necessity. The Anaheim National Bang can serve you.
Miss Ruth Slayton and Ernest G. Cassidy were married at Santa Ana, Monday, July 3rd. Later the newlyweds repaired to the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Slayton of West Anaheim, where the bride and groom and intimate friends were entertained at dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Cassidy have taken their departure for Oregon where a short honeymoon will be spent, later returning to this city to reside.

When Bert Simpson saw the wild west show strike out on parade at noon the other day he had to laugh. The "Indians" and cow boys and cow girls were riding and leading a non-descript aggregation of horse and mule flesh that reminded him of a plantation scene down south. Bert says on northwest plains when it was stirred around that they were going to have a round-up for fair the cow-punchers had to tackle outlaw horses that never saw anything but the rough outdoor mountainous country, and they were wild ones, you betcher, Bert says. Horses and riders had never seen each other before, and there were no saddles either. Those northwest plainsmen would stick to the barebacks of the broncos like Le Pages' glue, and would invariably subdue their mounts to such a state of docility that they were forth-with turned over to the delivery wagon service.
A dispatch from Los Angeles, printed in an up-state paper, says: "When the Santa Ana sand and wind storms blow in from the desert east of here clouds of misty dust sweep out over the ocean off the coast, 30 miles from land. Skippers say the Southern California coast is the only section known where feather dusters are required at sea." The fellow who sent that out must be a Tenderfoot

That would take about 15 years, and by that time the population would have a fair education and most of the trouble makers now in existence would be well out of the way. There is sound sense in this humble peon's reasoning and he has the right idea.

The board of supervisors will probably have a new offer to consider in the matter of the right of way for a new road over Sulphur mountain in the Santa Ana canyon before they start condemnation proceedings. It is understood taht Dr. J. L. Beebe and wife have made a proposition to give a right of way free for a road to go a little farther back in the mountains. They have refused to accept the offer of the board of supervisors for a right of way necessary to open the canyon road. Unless the new proposition has merit, the board will start condemnation proceedings for the land it has been negotiating for.
A bank account may help to turn shadows into sunshine. Most people have rainy days some time. We welcome small accounts. The Anaheim National Bank.
Mr. Branigan, who has again assumed charge of the glass factory at Newport Beach, made an entertaining and instructive address at the meeting of the associated chambers of commerce at Brea the other evening upon the natural advantages Orange county enjoys in the way of cheap fuel for manufacturing purposes. The gas wells in the county afford an unlimited supply, and the development and storage of gas has just commenced. No where throughout the country, the speaker said, do such ideal conditions prevail. Mr. Branigan says that only recently a very essential product used in the manufacture of glass has been discovered in large quantities in close contiguous territory, thereby making the manufacture of all kinds of glassware doubly advantageous. These hidden natural accessories have not heretofore been developed, and the gentleman grew optimistic in his remarks concerning the wonderful outlook for the county from a manufacturing standpoint. W. H. Houts, J. H. Cook, August Staples and Ben Jerome with their families returned Saturday from a fishing excursion in the Little Bear Lake region. They were in camp for a week and had good luck in Hook creek, but the fish were shy in the lake.
The Anaheim band gave its first open air concert of the season on the library grounds Thursday evening. The concert lasted one hour, and a large crowd of people gathered to hear it and generously applauded. These concerts will be held every two weeks during the summer season.

Establish a payroll by starting the smokestacks ago, Mr. Branigan says, and you will enjoy a wave of prosperity heretofore unheard from.
Many people practice numerous economies, but somehow their bank accounts are a sorry succession of goose eggs. Why economize if you do not deposit something in a bank? The Anaheim National Bank welcomes small accounts.
The fire siren sounded an alarm at 10 o'clock Tuesday night and the department promptly responded, but the blaze was of little consequence. A shed on the Nemetz lots near the Santa Fe railroad was discovered to be on fire and it was rapidly consumed. It is supposed a boy with a fire cracker was responsible for it.
J. E. Merchant of El Modena was seriously injured by the overturning of his auto at Seal Beach Tuesday. Notwithstanding thousands of cars were on the move on Orange county's roads on the Fourth, no serious accidents were reported. It was a remarkable record.
