Special easy terms this week. WEBER BOOK AND MUSIC STORE The two check forgers, giving the names of Henry Schoen and Frank Jennings, who were arrested here several weeks ago and sent to San Quentin, for passing a bogus check on Wm. Leslie of this city, are wanted in other cities for kiting no fund checks. Deputy District Attorney Koepsel while in town a few days ago stated the pair passed two bad checks in Los Angeles prior to coming to this city, and a warrant has been issued and sent to San Quentin for service at the expiration of their present term, for passing bogus checks at Fresno. It appears that they have been doing an extensive business in the bad check line on the coast. In all probability they will be further prosecuted by local officers for passing a fictitious check upon Joe Lautenbach of this city upon their recent visit here. Their mode of operation was rather clever. When one presented a check which was usually drawn for $13.50, a week's wages, and should there be a doubt about it, the culprit would ask his victim to telephone to a certain rooming house, where his partner would be in waiting, and in reply his confederate would assure his interrogator that he was a contractbr, and being late in getting to a bank had issued a check for the wages, which he declared was good. In this way they easily fleeced their unsuspecting victims. The skeleton of a colored lady that has been hanging up in Frank Machleb's harness shop for some weeks past, is gone. Some evenings ago a gentleman rolled up to the place in a large auto and asked Machleb if he had a price on the skeleton. Frank gave him the figure Dr. Denning valued it at, and the stranger handed him the money, mounted a table, cut down the skeleton, stowed it in his auto, and started away, all within a minutes' time. "Tell Dr. Denning," he said, as he started his machine, "that Dr. Bliss of Los Angeles purchased his colored lady." Marshal Kellenberger, Deputy Marshal Germann and Coonie Mauerhan drove over to Pasadena Friday to round up a quartet of young automobile thieves, who were being held there. They had stolen a Ford here belonging to a man named Lovett of Long Beach and are believed to be implicated in other auto thefts. It is said they maintained a "fence" in Los Angeles where stolen autos were striped, and a large lot of loot is being unearthed by the Los Angeles police, which is claimed to have been stolen by the men. On Monday they were brought to this city and will be prosecuted. It is said that all the men have prior convictions against them, but had been liberated on probation. They gave the names of Verne Fabrick, Wallace Buckingham, Curtis Smiley and Reed Haas. The men were arraigned before Judge Howard Monday morning. They were bound over to superior court in the sum of $1000 each. For all-year-round fun get your boy or girl an Ansco Camera for Xmas. $2 buys a good one. Heying's Pharmacy. Adams, for two weeks.
