One passed through his upper lip, one through the cheek and one entered his nostril. The pellet that passed through his eye was the only one that caused a serious injury.

Local Notes
A Santa Anan visiting in town one day recently marvelled at the activity here in the down town district during business hours. Many out-of-town residents come to Anaheim when they want to see what a real live town looks like.
B. Hartfield has installed new mahogany fixtures in his jewelry store, the same being elaborate and of artistic design. Mr. Hartfield has one of the best appointed stores in the county.
Wm. Stark has taken personal charge of his 20-acre orange orchard in the western addition, and for the past several weeks has been putting the place in tip-top order. Mr. Stark while taking an active interest in municipal affairs also divides a considerable part of his time to his horticultural duties.
Dr. F. H. Houck has in contemplation the erection of a substantial brick building upon his West Center street site. Work upon the structure will not be commenced until next spring, and while the new building will add greatly to the architectural beauty of this city, the plans have not yet been definitely perfected. Dr. Houck sees a great future for Anaheim and intends to do all he can to further aid the making of a Greater Anaheim.

Anley states that the work of the highway commission will be completed by the first of the year. Only a few roads remain yet to be paved, and at the conclusion of this work the highway commission will probably go out of existence.

The performance will be under the direction of Wm. Morton Rasmus, the well known theatrical manager.
Alonzo L. Bolman, an employee of the Fullerton Great West Oil company at its lease north of Placentia, killed himself at 5 o'clock Friday evening, at his balhelor's quarters on the lease. He shot himself in the head with a .22-caliber automatic revolver, and died a half hour later. Family troubles are said to be the cause of the suicide. Bolman recently made a will leaving all his property to his sister, Mrs. A. F. Kern of Garden Grove.

Private Edward J. Garland, a Santa Ana boy, who is stationed at the Portsmouth navy yard, has been honored for bravery and quick action in an emergency. He has received from Major General George Barnett, commanding the corps, that most coveted prize for enlisted men—a letter of commendation. From the official reports it appears that Garland broke open a window of the blazing powder repository and threw out into the open a metallic drum containing refuse, but which, for all he knew to the contrary might have contained the usual charge of high explosive. Garland's quick action doubtless prevented a spread of the fire and saved much government property from destruction.
The West End Sewing circle was delightfully entertained at the home of Mrs. T. M. Quarton. Those present were Mesdames E. Borchert, W. Brumagin, B. Davis, E. Sparks, J.

A motor truck belonging in foreign parts, ran into a Ford car driven by H Deutsch, of the International Furniture company, at the corner of Los Angeles and Chartres streets Friday. One wheel of Mr. Deutsch's car was smashed. Deutsch claims the truck was speeding, and was wholly to blame for the accident.

The Placentia Canning company is making a record run on tomatoes, approximately 12,000 cans passing through the cannery daily, starting out from the warehouse along an almost automatic run from process to process until they are loaded again in the warehouse by the elevator, laden with Lue A1 product. One car, containing 1000 cases, was shipped last week, making eight cars so far this season. It is stated about ten cars will cover the entire pack for the 1915 season, whereas it should have exceeded 30.

The Anaheim Browns went over to Hawthorne Sunday and played the baseball team of that town to a standstill. The game was called on account of darkness with the score standing three to three. The board of directors of the Anaheim Herald recently were compelled to levy an assessment of one dollar per share on the stock of that corporation for the purpose of paying expenses, and it is announced in the paper that the stock of delinquents will be sold on December 7. The Herald was established for the purpose of filling a long felt want, and was financed by a large number of stockholders. It may have fulfilled its purpose in supplying the want, but it is understood the stockholders have always been compelled to pay assessments instead of drawing down dividends. Some time ago a number of the officers resigned their positions and disposed of their stock.

The West End Sewing circle was delightfully entertained at the home of Mrs. T. M. Quarton. Those present were Mesdames E. Borchert, W. Brumagin, B. Davis, E. Sparks, J. Kluthe, R. J. Sparks, J. Kelly, C. W. Martin, E. Marion, C. G. Sparks, W. P. Quarton and H. W. Skinner. All brought their needlework, but owing to the witty hostess the work of the energetic laborers was somewhat retarded by laughter. Later in the afternoon delicious refreshments were served and the members lingered at the bountiful table until dusk. All spent a jolly afternoon, and dispersed with merry hearts. The next meeting will be held Dec. 15th at the home of Mrs. H. W. Skinner.

Unless otherwise announced, the January meeting will be held as usual on the last Wednesday of the month.

At a point some 20 miles below San Juan Capistrano it is proposed to erect a barrier over the route and this will be cut down with taxes in the hands of President Fred L. Baker of the Automobile club, N. D. Darlington of the state highway commission, President Davidson of the exposition and Col. E. Fletcher, representing the San Diego motorists. Recently a new bridge was erected in Los Angeles county on the Anaheim road, near Artesia. At one end of the bridge there is a straight drop of more than a foot. A number of autos were damaged while crossing the bridge Sunday. One auto owner said he saw five autos tied up there at one time and cannot understand how the occupants escaped injury. It is one of the most dangerous points in Southern California, especially for travelers at night. Unless the drop is filled in at once Los Angeles county may be called upon to pay heavy damages sooner or later.
