W. Duckworth. The visitors were shown points of interest in this section and were delighted with their short sojourn here. I. T. Brown is editor of the Columbus Republican.
James King, one of three boys alleged to have stolen an automobile belonging to Louis Frahm of this city some time ago was dismissed in the superior court Saturday morning on motion of the district attorney. The evidence as adduced showed that King had no guilty connection with the taking of the machine. King who is 19 years old, will be under the su

Justice Cox of Santa Ana, says fines collected by him for violations of the speed ordinance amounted to $204 less during April than for the month of March. This is the result, he says of laying off the motor cops by the supervisors, and not because the drivers of autos are becoming more careful. The judge thinks the law giving fines collected for reckless driving to the state instead of the county is a mistake, as the extra fines more than compensated the speed cops for their work.
"Bob" McKee has returned from a several days trip down into the Escondido country, where he found many fine valleys. A good deal of the country is devoted to dairy interests which are flourishing. He traveled through the San Marcos section and he and his party ascended the highest mountain peak there, going up about 13,000 feet. They had a splendid panoramic view of the surrounding country for many miles and the ocean to the west was plainly visible. Mr. McKee went on a sightseeing trip and while he thinks well of the Escondido valley, he inclines to the opinion that it does not compare with our local section.
Deputy Sheriff Oliver Schumacher brought in a Mexican named E. Salcedo from Placentia on Sunday afternoon and lodged him in jail. The Mexican had disturbed the peace and as a bad hombre. During Saturday night some Mexicans at Placentia indulged in rough house tactics and Schumacher was called but when he arrived the Mexicans had scattered. One was found at his home and in possession of a pearl-handled revolver. The officer could not relieve him of his artillery while in his own home, but Oliver said he wished he could have apprehended the man during the rumpus outside, when he would have taken the gun away from him, which he classed as being a sleet covered pavement.
A sorrel mare belonging to Emilio Royes was stolen last week from his place at Santa Ana. Several days later two Mexicans were seen between Fullerton and this city with the mare, but were not apprehended. Officers are looking for them and it is probable that arrests will be made soon. Royes, who is an old time resident of this section, was in town Sunday in search of the animal, which he values at $200. The mare has an A branded on the left hip, foretop clipped, has a white spot in forehead, about five years old and weighs 1400 pounds.
A gentleman hailing from Villa Park, who was in attendance at the associated chambers of commerce meeting on Thursday evening, endeavored to create the impression that Ed Bustamente has been in town the past week engaged in painting Alec Morales' residence. A gentleman hailing from Villa Park, who was in attendance at the associated chambers of commerce meeting on Thursday evening, endeavored to create the impression that Valencia oranges raised in that section were far superior to those raised here. The Mother Colony brand shipped from Anaheim to the New York and other Eastern markets last season brought top notch prices upon several occasions. The fruit was absolutely first class. The price received for Mother Colony brand during one day's sale in the New York market was higher than the price paid for any oranges sold in any eastern city upon that day. The oranges this season are coming on equally as good and fancy figures are looked for when the season is at its height.
Joseph Farrell of Placentia was in town a day or two ago on a business mission. He reports that his hustling little town is doing things all the time in the way of advancement. Mr. Farrel is a booster of no small calibre and is ever telling of the many virtues of his home town. He also is firmly of the opinion that we have the best county in the state, and that is saying a good deal. Mr. Farrell is in the orange packing business and says some of the finest oranges to be seen anywhere have been sent to market, with more to follow. At a recent meeting of the Knights at Placentia Mr. Farrell and associates saw to it that the visiting brothren were given the best in the shop.

The Anaheim high school baseball team won another victory Saturday, Huntington Beach being the victim. It was not so exciting as the previous game with Santa Ana, being too much one-sided. The beachites were not in the same class as the inlanders, the score being 9 to 2. The game was played on the Huntington Beach grounds.
Frederick W. Pechstein, one of Anaheim's oldest citizens, died at the home of his son, Curt at 604 Clementina street Monday. He was 83 years of age. His wife died less than a year ago. Mr. Pechstein was a native of Germany and has resided in Anaheim twenty four years. He leaves two sons, Curt of this city, and Bruno of San Diego, and one daughter, Mrs. Andrew Kohler of Los Angeles. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon, Rev. R. D. Schmelzer officiating.
George Bauer has put his place on the East side in a high state of cultivation. He has his tract set to Valencias and lemons, a combination hard to beat. He reports the trees all doing nicely and the crop promises to be large.
