The net returns from oil royalties were less than $60,000.00 which were used to pay interest, to reduce the indebtedness, and for new construction; about $20,000.00 each. We will probably have a constantly diminishing income from the oil properties, and we believe it would be better to apply the oil royalties on the reduction of indebtedness at not less than the rate of $20,000.00 per annum, and for the payment of the interest, using for new construction not more than the balance after paying the interest and the payment on the indebtedness. We would recommend that a budget be provided for the business each year, and the following statement is compiled from the 1914 report as a basis for the same: Income: Water, rentals, etc $46,666.47 Oil royalties $64,336.31 Bills payable—New notes $65,821.00 Interest received $3,884.80 Total $180,707.58 Expenditures: Operating expenses $44,750.97 Oil expenses $6,653.56 Interest paid $22,564.38 Bonds paid $56,000.00 Notes paid $31,500.00 New construction, etc., about $20,248.67 Total $180,707.58 Commercial Hotel FIRST-CLASS DINING ROOM AND BAR Handsomely Furnished Rooms Everything neat and clean A home for the Traveling Public A trial will convince JOHN ZIEGLER, Manager IN THE SUPERIOR COURT Of the State of California In and For the County of Orange In the Matter of the Estate of John Jackson, Order to Show Cause Theo A. Land Produced 1500 Barrels Daily as a Starter The Amalgamated Oil company on the Anaheim Union Water company lease, has brought in a well, which promises to be one of the company's largest. It began flowing at midnight Tuesday, last, and its production is estimated at the rate of 1200 to 1500 barrels daily. The well is No. 52. It is 1000 feet from any other well on the Anaheim Union tract and 700 feet from No. 3 well on the Hualde tract. Formations were similar to those encountered in the latter. The oil was struck at about 3500 feet. So far the flow has been intermittent. The gravity of the oil is twenty-three and one-half degrees. The Amalgamated is only running one string of tools in the field, drilling Hualde No. 4. The company's well on the eighty-acre tract is doing about 150 barrels a day. More wells will be driller on this tract later. The total production of the Amalgamated in the Fullerton and Salt Lake fields prior to the coming in of No. 52 well was about 5300 to 5400 barrels daily. The new well may increase it to about 6500 barrels. ARTHUR STALEY, GEO. S. TREUH, Board of Audit NOTICE INVITING SEALED PROPOSALS Notice is hereby given that sealed proposals or bids will be made by the Board of Trustees of the City of Anaheim in the City Hall in the City of Anaheim, up to 8 o'clock P.M. on Thursday, the 11th of February, 1915 for materials necessary for drilling a well upon the City of Anaheim, which shall afterward be said well to be between three hundred and five hundred feet in depth, depending upon the depth of the water bearing great weight. Sales or permits must be in compliance with certain specifications of said work adopted by the Board of Trustees of said City of Anaheim on the 13th day of March, 1913, and filed in the office of the Clerk of said City. Salt well is to be drilled upon that certain lot piece and parcel of land situated and lying in the City of Anaheim, County of Orange State of California, and described as follows with regard to salt well at West Wesley line of Book Lg G3 as shown on a map recorded in Book Lg Dews at pages 629-632 The total production of the Amalgamated in the Fullerton and Salt Lake fields prior to the coming in of No. 52 well was about 5300 to 5400 barrels daily. The new well may increase it to about 6500 barrels. GRANITE QUARRIED FROM BOULDERS An interesting feature of the production of granite in California is the quantity of stone quarried from large residual boulders. These boulders, according to the United States Geological Survey, represent the remnants left from prolonged disintegration of large granite masses, but after a thin weathered coating is removed they yield sound stone. Good granite should stand a crushing strain of at least 20,000 pounds to the square inch; some granites will stand 40,000 pounds. This may be compared to common red brick, which will crush at about 3,000 pounds to the square inch. POOR QUALITY OF BUTTER OFFEN CAUSED BY LACK OF THOROUGH COOLING OF CREAM On of the most common causes of poor quality butter is the lack of immediate, thorough cooling of the cream after separation. The dairy division of the department has made a careful investigation of conditions on a large number of dairy farms, and the data obtained show that, if properly cooled, cream of the best grade can be produced with but little extra labor or expense. The principles are very simple and are easily understood. A liberal use of ice which has been stored in winter to be used the following summer is one of the requirement for the solution of the poor butter problem. Farmers who are already successfully delivering good day of February, 1915 for all work materials necessary for an anaheim well upon land after described, said well to be between three hundred and five hundred feet in depth, depending upon the depth of the water bearing gravel. Salt work and sand must be in conformity with certain specifications of salt work adopted by the Board of Trustees of said City of Anaheim on the 13th day of March, 1915, and filed in the office of the Clerk of said City. Salt well is also carried upon that certain and parcel of land situate, lying and being in the City of Anaheim, County of Oranges State of California, and described as follows, to-wit: Beginning at a point on the eastern line of Vineyard lot with a plane parallel to the northerly end of said Vineyard lot; thence south-easterly along the westerly line of the right way of the Southern Pacific Railroad Company $22.9 feet; hence parallel to the line said Vineyard lot; thence northerly along the westerly line of said lot $210.91 feet to the westward line of said lot $210.91 feet to the place of beginning. Bids will be rendered on wells of 16 inch diameter coating to be double and of 10 or 12 gauge steel. Bids shall state price per foot and guage of steel. Also time required to complete the work. Each proposal must be accompanied by accurate check in the sum of one hundred dollars, payable to the order of President of the Board of Trustees of the City of Anaheim, as a guarantee of good faith on the part of the bidder will enter into contract and give the bonds required, and in case the bidder fails, to sign the contract and give satisfactory bonds within ten days after the contract is awarded to him, said certified property of the City of Anaheim as liquidation of damage and incurred expenses. The successful bidder will be required to give a bond to the City of Anaheim equal to one-half of the amount of the contract price specified and sufficient surplus, to be approved by the Board of Trustees of the City of Anaheim, who shall qualify in double the amount of said bond, which said bond shall guarantee the faultful performance and sufficient surplus, to be approved by the Board of
