CHRISTMAS TIME
Christmas time, the season when men forget for a day the strife and struggle of life and extend the hand of fellowship to all mankind, is once more with us. It comes but once a year, but it is welcomed by old and young alike. The old year is passing and its record is imprinted on the in-delible tablets of time. The new year with its virgin pages will soon be ushered in, and it is the hope of this paper that its many readers and its numerous patrons will find it a prosperous one. A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all, is the sincere wish of the Gazette.
Half of the Christian world is now engaged in deadly strife, and thousands of men are dying on the battlefields. The tablet bearing the proclamation "On earth peace, goodwill toward men," has been turned with its face to the wall in most of the countries of Europe and famine and pestilence a most healthy condition. The war, however, has made it imperative for the producers to shut in much oil because of the falling off of shipments, and there was a decrease in production as compared with October. The number of wells being drilled and completed has fallen off, while there was a gain of nine producing wells for the month. The most of the promotion work is being done in the Fullerton district where 70 wells are now being drilled. The Midway district is next with 35.
During November the oil districts of California produced a total of 7,905,095 barrels, of which the Fullerton district produced about one-sixth.
BOUQUET FOR MITCHELL
The Orange County Teachers' Institute in session at Santa Ana this week, passed a number of resolutions among them the following:
In view of the agitation for legislation to adopt the county unit of school administration and in view of the fact that the matter has not been brought before the teachers of this county for thorough study and full discussion, and in view of the fact that the people of Orange county have exercised wise description in the election of an efficient and capable superintendent, therefore be it required that we forever postpone our see if the school of the average parish give their children school affairs.
It is possible that school entertainment on, and that the school to buy a ticket at year which will be school entertainment.
The city trustee held a house-warming hall. The new buildup of the city. Beside and fire-proof vault it has an assembly capacity of 300.
TRACT MEET
Orange County Hall
Will Gather
The Orange County Athletic Federation o'clock in Santa Clarita from Huntington, Anaheim, Orlando high schools were Coach Milligan ed an invitation track meet in Anaheim.
Half of the Christian world is now engaged in deadly strife, and thousands of men are dying on the battlefields. The tablet bearing the proclamation "On earth peace, good will toward men," has been turned with its face to the wall in most of the countries of Europe, and famine and pestilence stalk through the land, but here in Anaheim we have passed a year of peace and plenty. There are no wars nor rumors of wars that can cause us anxiety, except such of us as have relatives in the battle ridden lands.
Even in our own peaceful land unwise legislation has desolated certain sections of the country and caused much hardship and suffering among the people, but we, on the Pacific coast, have so far escaped its evil effects, and we are looking forward with the hope that there will again be inaugurated in Washington a government that believes in the doctrine on which this government was founded—America for the Americans.
Tomorrow is Christmas and we will welcome Santa Claus in Anaheim with a glad hand, but our joyous festivities will be tempered by the knowledge that there are millions in the Christian world who will not know him this season.
OIL PRODUCTION
During the month of November the Fullerton-Whittler oil district produced 1,205,285 barrels of oil, an average of 40,176 barrels a day. The official report shows there are now 544 producing wells in the district. Coalinga and Midway-Sunset were the only districts that produced more oil during the month than did the Fullerton district.
The oil men say the industry is in among them the following:
In view of the agitation for legislation to adopt the county unit of school administration and in view of the fact that the matter has not been brought before the teachers of this county for thorough study and full discussion, and in view of the fact that the people of Orange county have exercised wise discretion in the election of an efficient and capable superintendent, therefore be it resolved, that we favor postponement of action by the California Teachers' Association. Southern Section, until a full discussion has been held.
We commend and endorse the effort to make the smoking of cigarettes and the having of cigarettes by pupils on school premises a reason for suspension or expulsion from school.
We recommend that the selection of a date for the next association and institute be made at some time in October and not just preceding the holidays.
FIGURING THE COST
What it costs the average high school student each year to enter school activities and take an active part in all school life has been the subject of months of research and questioning on the part of S. W. Robertson and E. H. Whittaker of the high school faculty of Santa Barbara.
They hoped to be able to report to the school faculty before Christmas what the average expense per student is, but they have found the question so complicated that it will be some weeks more before they can report.
The expenses vary all the way from less than a dollar for the year, to a sum far beyond the reach of the average parent. One of the hard questions to decide is just what is legitimate school activity.
The object of their investigation being made by the two teachers is to...

see if the school is asking too much of the average parents who want to give their children an even chance in school affairs.
It is possible that a flat rate for all school entertainments will be hit upon, and that the student will be able to buy a ticket at the beginning of the year which will admit him to all school entertainments.
The city trustees of Stanton have held a house-warming in the new city hall. The new building is the pride of the city. Besides executive offices and fire-proof vault for city records, it has an assembly hall with seating capacity of 300.
TRACT MEET HELD IN ANAHEIM
Orange County High School Athletes Will Gather Here March 13
The Orange County High School Athletic Federation met Monday at 3 o'clock in Santa Ana. Representatives from Huntington Beach, Fullerton, Anaheim, Orange and Santa Ana high schools were present.
Coach Milligan of Anaheim extended an invitation to hold the annual track meet in Anaheim and the federation was between 37 and 38. At Stockton, the coldest spot, a temperature of 28 was the lowest recorded.
Four feet of snow was reported on Strawberry peak, and a heavy fall on Mt. Wilson is said to have made the toll road impassable. The Sierra Madre trail is open. No damage has been done on the Mt. Lowe summit, but the snow is very deep.
Long Beach has broken all records for eight years with a total rainfall for the season of 7.85 inches.
Sam Kraemer is in receipt of a letter from his brother Jonathan, at Durango, Mex., in which he states that a large number of revolutionists arrived at his ranch some weeks ago and drove off 3500 head of cattle. Mr. Kraemer's losses during the troublous times existing in Mexico have been large, but this latest loss is the most severe he has experienced at the hands of the marauders.
Judge Thomas passed sentence on the four boys who have been breaking into houses in the Orangethorpo district and recently entered and stole from the S. C. Hartranft home. The boys, Ralph and Floyd Smith, Clyde Higginson and Sam White, all pleaded guilty to the charges and the last three were declared delinquents and placed under the care of Probation Officer Scott. Ralph Smith, the one who thorpe about the time of the carnival in this city, were spent at the carnival and at moving picture shows. The watch belonging to Mrs. Hartranft was found in another part of the dresser, where the boys had placed it during their visit to the home.

Here's Anaheim testimony.
Mrs. Backs, 228 N. Lemon St., Anaheim, Cal., says: "Years ago my back and kidnows began to trouble me. When on my feet, I suffered worse. If over-worked, the suffering was increased. A cold always made me bad, too. I felt tired and lame and was much run down when I began using Doan's Kidney Pills. All the pains and aches yielded to this remedy and I felt like a different person. Since then, I have never been without a supply of Doan's Kidney Pills several years ago and am glad to confirm that statement. Another in our home has since used Doan's Kidney Pills and has had good

The county baseball series will begin Saturday, April 3.
The president of the federation announced that the county basketball series had resulted in Fullerton and Huntington Beach holding first and second places; but, by virtue of a previous motion duly carried by the federation, these teams must play a three-game post season series to decide the championship.
NO FROST
Despite the fact that frost warnings were sent out by the weather bureau Monday night throughout the citrus belt, the temperatures did not reach the danger point, and no smudging was done by the orchardists.

GENERAL FARM CROPS
A report from Visalla states that 800 acres of the Bliss ranch in Tuare county have been leased and will be planted to sugar beets next year.
The splendid crops of beans harvested in Sutter county last year and the high prices received are said to be incentives for an increased average of beans both in Sutter and Yuba counties next year. Lady Washington and kidney beans are the most popular varieties in that section.
A San francisco judge has just decided that hay buyers are not compelled to pay for hay which is full of dirt. The court ruled that the hay buyers do not buy dirt and therefore do not have to pay for such hay. It is claimed that many farmers throw in chunks of dirt in the hay press in order to increase the tonnage of their product.
Many farmers in the Imperial valley are said to be contemplating the planting of at least a part of their ranches to sugar cane next year. If 3,000 acres can be signed up a company stands ready to erect a factory for the manufacture of the raw product into sugar. It is claimed that the crop can be profitably grown in that section.
Plans are being considered for the erection of a rice and paper mill in Colony county next year to care for

Plans are being considered for the erection of a rice and paper mill in Colusa county next year to care for the rice straw, which is assuming large proportions with the heavy acreage of rice which is now being grown in the Sacramento valley. This should be a big asset to the rice industry as it would make possible the disposal of straw which is now practically a waste.
The hop market seems to have gone all to pieces according to reports from Santa Rosa, which say that buyers are only offering six cents a pound while growers are holding for 10 cents, which is said to be below actual cost of production. Growers charge that the market is being manipulated by the buyers for their own benefit as present conditions do not warrant the low prices.
At Villa Park, the Orange County Vegetable association is making great plans for extensive planting. Heretofore this association has not entered very greatly into the summer market, contenting itself with raising winter vegetables. This coming summer, however, on account of the splendid rains which have already fallen and on account of the expositions at San Francisco and San Diego, the summer acreage will be greater than ever before in the history of the county's vegetable industry. As soon as all danger from frost is passed the planting of the summer's crop will commence.

A notice of appeal from the order of court, denying the defendants in the case of J. F. Kennedy vs. the West Coast Oil Company a new trial was filed Tuesday. The company is still desirous of getting a new trial, thinking the verdict giving Kennedy damages may be reversed at such trial of the cause.
