Mrs. Mary Basten, aged 54, a native of Liverpool, England, on Saturday, took out her first naturalization papers. She came to this country in 1881. She is an orchardist of Placentia. Attorney Ames was in Los Angeles on Saturday filing a brief with the Supreme Court in the case of W. J. Cole against the City of Stanton, on appeal from Judge West’s decision in favor of the latter in the Superior Court. A delegation of Knights Templar consisting of Henry Braden, H. M. Adams, S. C. Hartraft and Wm. McLaughlin, went to Santa Ana on Saturday afternoon to attend the funeral of Hugh McDonald, a well known Knight Templar, who died at his home near that city on Thursday. W. P. Mr. Robinson is a patriotic Riversider, and said that citrus trees in that locality show very little effects of the January cold weather. Mr. Porter has been a most efficient superintendent, and contemplates resigning in order to give his entire attention to his private affairs. The W. C. T. U. will entertain the evening of May 6th at the Y. M. C. Mr. Hetebrink notes increasing activity in oil development in his section, but has so far declined offers of oil companies to drill upon his land. His ranch is one of the richest in the Placentia neighborhood, and the idea prevails that it has underlying it an arm of the oil lake which has made that section famous. The Entre Nous Dancing Club gave another of its delightful dances in Eagles' hall Wednesday evening of last week. Fifteen couples, constituting the entire membership, were present and all enjoyed a pleasant evening. Music was furnished by Adams orchestra. The club has just held its mid-year election and the officers for the ensuing term are as follows: President, Alvin Nowotny; treasurer, Herman Schindler; secretary, Al Erickson. The next dance will be on Wednesday evening, May 7. Titchenal, the proprietor, has moved the entire establishment from his former location in Santa Ana, where he has made it a success for the past several years, and, seeking a new location hit upon this city as offering him the best opportunities. His establishment is probably the best in the county and one of the best in the state, being equipped in a thoroughly modern way throughout, and everything being neat and orderly. Mr. Titchenal has associated with him an expert candy and ice cream maker, and all creams and confections sold are made in the shop. Harry Hanna arrived this week from San Marcos, San Diego county, and will devote several weeks to superintending plowing operations upon his father's walnut ranch at Miraflores. Mr. Hanna has 120 acres in oats at his ranch near San Marcos and 20 acres in corn and beans, from all of which he expects to harvest bumper crops.
