A. W. Danforth was in town the first of the week. Mr. Danforth has just returned from a business trip to Imperial and Yuma. While at Banning he encountered a snowstorm, and the next day at Yuma found thermometers registering 90 degrees in the shade, and precious little shade.

Mrs. J. J. Schneider was hostess at a charming farewell party Monday afternoon in honor of Mrs. Herman Stern who leaves next week for a tour of Europe. Twenty guests were present, and "500" was played, at which the first prize—a hand-painted plate, was awarded to Mrs. J. W. Cole, and the second a pair of salt and pepper shakers, to Mrs. Stern. Delicious refreshments of oyster patties, coffee and ice cream and cake were served during the afternoon.
Sherman Hayden who sold his residence property on South Los Angeles street to Clyde H. Own, a recent arrival from New Mexico, for $15,000, has rented a house on South Olive street and is making his home there. Mr. Hayden after disposing of his place spent two days in looking over Los Angeles for a home, but returned to Anaheim, persuaded it looked better than ever before.
N. P. Hansen went to Los Angeles on Tuesday to consult with his attorney relative to an action which Wallace Scott came in from California on Monday to spend the summer with relatives. He reports a fine spring and bumper crops on all sides.
W. C. Fisher of Los Angeles, representing the American type founders company, was in town on Tuesday and made a pleasant call at this office.
Prof. Florey was in town again on Saturday from his westside orange ranch. Wouldn't tell the reporter what he came in for. What was it, Florey?
Billy Franz has a canary which at three months is developing into a warbler of uncommon sweetness. At two months the bird began singing its first notes, and Billy considers it will become a world beater before the summer is over. He has it in his barber shop, where it attracts much attention.

Frank Nemetz is at Elsinore hot springs for a three weeks outing. His wife, mother and Mrs. Charles Holley have been at the springs for some time past. Mrs. L. Nemetz will return to her home here this week.
C. C. Leigh of Los Angeles, traffic inspector of the Pacific telegraph and telephone company, was in town on Friday, and had words of commendation for the efficient management of Earl Abbey, who is in charge of the local office of the company.

Several members of the faculty and senior and junior classes of the local high school attended the Occidental college play, "The Sawdust Hero," given at a Los Angeles theater Saturday afternoon. Complimentary tickets were sent the Anaheimers and all received a most cordial welcome.
Mr. and Mrs. V. U. Simpson returned on the midnight train Sunday night from Grass Valley, where they attended the grand lodges of Knights of Pythias and Pythian Sisters. They were accompanied by Mrs. Hiltscher of Fullerton and Miss Zolla Smythe of Los Angeles.
Loule Bushard is ill at his home on Adele street, suffering from a complication of internal disorders due to kidney trouble. Mr. Bushard taken ill two weeks ago on his return from a trip to Tulare. His condition was yesterday reported improving, and hopes are entertained for a speedy recovery.

Peter Syre writes from Germany that he has arrived safely, and is seeing the sights of his former happy home on the Rhine. He has been aboard Hayden who sold his residence property on South Los Angeles street to Clyde H. Own, a recent arrival from New Mexico, for $15,000, has rented a house on South Olive street and is making his home there. Mr. Hayden after disposing of his place spent two days in looking over Los Angeles for a home, but returned to Anaheim, persuaded it looked better than ever before.
N. P. Hansen went to Los Angeles on Tuesday to consult with his attorney relative to an action which he contemplates bringing against a Los Angeles street-car company. Mr. Hansen while in the city recently fell from a car, which was not stopped to permit him to alight. The motorman told him the car was moving sufficiently slow to permit him to alight but in doing so Mr. Hansen fell on the pavement, sustaining serious injuries.
The annual reception of the Ebell Society to be given in the high school auditorium, has been changed to Tuesday evening, June 4. The gentlemen friends of the society are invited to meet with the ladies. A most enjoyable evening is anticipated. In addition to a fine musical program the committee promises a treat in the shape of dramatical readings.
Jack Resh writes from Niagara Falls that he and his wife are seeing the sights there, and will leave shortly for a trip to Washington, D.C., New York, Philadelphia and other points east. Jack adds that he is trying to get an option on the falls, with a view to purchasing them and bringing them to Anaheim. As an adjunct to the attractions here He will be absent a month or more.
Mrs. Walter Revell and two little daughters returned yesterday from Honolulu, after an absence of two years, and will be a guest for some months of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Thayer. Mr. Revell remains on the island, where he is manager of an extensive manufacturing concern. Mrs. Revell is glad to be home again, and her parents and many friends are rejoiced to meet with her again.
Carl Marten is making a success in cabbage raising on his ranch at the corner of Garden Grove road and Sugar Loaf avenue. From seven acres he sold $950 worth of cabbage, and he thinks of going in for the same succulent vegetable on a larger scale next year.
Mrs. Alvin Nowotny left on Saturday for New Braunfels, Texas, where she will visit relatives for three or four hundred members of the Orange county battalion, U.R.K.P., composed of companies from this city, Fullerton, Orange and Tustin, go to Los Angeles by special train on Friday evening to participate in election of a successor to Brig-Gen. Drifil, commanding the brigade. Major General Stobbart of St. Paul will be present and conduct the election.The Knights will return at midnight.
Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Louis of Idaho were guests the past week of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Kemp. Mr. Louis is a cousin of Mr. Kemp. He came to the coast with the Shriners and was upon the point of returning when Mr. Kemp interposed an objection and brought him and his wife from Los Angeles for a stay of several days. Mr. Louis is an extensive cattle raiser of Idaho, and ships consignments of beef cattle to different points on the coast. He was delighted with Anaheim and promised to return.
While standing upon a stepladder in the act of spraying some apple trees on his home place on Monday, Mr. Lavin was so unfortunate as to fall, caused by the ladder toppling to one side, and in his descent he grabbed a picket in the fence with his right hand, that member being badly lacerated in consequence. But Mr. Lavin considers it a lucky accident, for had he fallen to the ground he might have been more seriously injured.
Mrs. Walter Miller Clark, a survivor of the Titanic tragedy, appeared in probate court in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon to ask for papers of administration on the estate of her husband, a victim of the wreck. In the petition filed early in the month no direct reference was made to the Titanic, it merely stating that Mr. Clark lost his life at sea 1100 miles northeast of New York City. Mrs. Clark testified that she last saw her husband standing by the rail of the doomed ship.

Articles of incorporation were filed this week by the McPherson Heights Citrus Association, recently formed by orange and lemon growers who have ranches in the vicinity of McPherson. This association does not differ from other citrus growers associations of the county.
Judge Howard declares he needs a new straw hat, the one he won the last campaign from Fred Spencer having faded away. He is desirous of making a bet on the Chicago convention, and will give all kinds of odds to the man who thinks Roosevelt will be the next president.
Among the delightful affairs planned in honor of Mrs. Stern who leaves shortly for a trip abroad was the "500" party given by Mrs. Harry Dyer on Friday afternoon. Salmon salad and accompaniments, cake and coffee, were served by the hostess. At the card game the first prize, an Irish crochet pin, was won by Mrs. J. Galligan of Denver, and the second, a shirt waist holder, by Mrs. Stern.

Clark lost his life at sea 1100 miles northeast of New York City. Mrs. Clark testified that she last saw her husband standing by the rail of the doomed ship.
Fritz Yungbluth has on exhibition in his east window an ingenious contrivance in the shape of a windmill, the four arms of which are decorated with the latest styles of hats. The mill is operated by an electric motor. In the center is a large sombrero. The display attracts great attention, and is one of the most unique in the city. In the store can be found a large assortment of hats, as well as other seasonable wearables, which Fritz is ever ready to show his customers.
Mrs. Gertrude Ward of Los Angeles who visited with friends here Sunday week was so unfortunate on her return home to slip and fall upon the pavement on Monday and break her arm. Mrs. Ward enjoyed a day of unusual pleasure here, returning to Los Angeles with a party of friends on the 9:30 evening train. Her many friends here will regret to learn of the accident, and will indulge the hope that no permanent ill effects will result from it. She was attempting to enter her automobile when she slipped and fell with the results as stated.
Mrs. E. Robinson departed for Suisun on Wednesday last, with a view to remaining in the upper valley for two or three months. She owns a large ranch in Solano county, which has been in her possession 53 years. Of this time she worked the ranch herself for 35 years. She is in her eighty-fourth year, and while she has been indisposed the past winter is now recovered, and looks forward to a pleasant sojourn in the north with particular anticipations of pleasure. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Seabright of New York, who recently arrived to be their aunt's guests, will remain on Mrs. Robinson's ranch during her absence.

Theo. Ford was in town on Saturday from his southside ranch. Mr. Ford reports a prosperous season in selling nursery stock despite a lack of rainfall in the earlier months of the season.
The regular meeting of the parent-teachers' association will be held at the Fremont school, Tuesday, June 4, at 3 o'clock. The school exhibit will be open to the public Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Capt. Williams, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Albright, Mrs. Duncan, and Mrs. Brown motored to Riverside and then to Redlands on Monday, remaining over night. On Tuesday morning they went through Smiley Heights, returning to Anaheim Tuesday afternoon.
