CARRIES STATE Defeats Taft Overwhelmingly in Primary Election Roosevelt swept the state on Tuesday at the first presidential primary election ever held here. In counties where Taft was supposed to be strong Roosevelt ran away from him. The vote was light, not half the total strength of the party being pollled. In Orange county Roosevelt defeated Taft decisively. In the four Anaheim precincts the vote was as follows: Precinct No. 1—Total vote 125. Roosevelt 28, delegates 42. Taft 32, delegates 45. Petermann will open his new cash grocery at the corner of Center and Hermine streets on Saturday of this week. The building has been completely overhauled and new fixtures installed, and will be conducted on a strictly sanitary basis. Mr. Petermann has had a life-long experience in the grocery business and no doubt will make a success of it here. Since leaving Goldfield, Nev., where he was in business for five years, Mr. Petermann looked around a great deal over the country and he has no hesitancy in saying that Anaheim appealed to him more strongly than any other place for a location. He will carry a complete line of staple and fancy groceries, teas and coffee, flour and feed, smoked meats, etc. Celebrated Palmist and Clairvoyant, Madame Florence Whether you believe or disbelieve it will pay you to call and convince yourself that there is more than you know in a true science. Editor Gazette—As patriotic instructor of Sedgwick Post, I am requested by the Commander, officers, and members of the Post, to make this public request through the press. That all persons, regardless of the nativity, who are patriotic and who love the Flag of our Country, and who are willing to be governed by her laws, to join with us on Memorial Day in the celebration of that day, properly and in view of that, we as members of the Grand Army of the Republic, do most respectfully art earnestly protest against and urge all people to desist from all forms of sports and festivities on that holy day. This Memorial Day being a holiday only recognized by law as such, and there being no law against people and societies engaging in their ordinary pursuits, or in festal occasions, it has become quite a universal custom for people and societies to desecrate this sacred day, by holding picnics, racing, dancing, ball playing, and hilarity, which we look upon as being disrespective on this day, which we hold so sacred. We, therefore, at this early date, enter this, our protest against those things and our earnest solicitation for the public to join generally with us in our exercises. But should they not desire to do that, from any cause, we still urge them to desist from these sports and follies which might be proper on any other day, but which we feel are entirely out of place on that day. We make this request and give this notice of our desires, early, so that societies and individuals may not make preparation and thereby be disappointed if they should determine to observe our request; which Whether you believe or disbelieve it will pay you to call and convince yourself that there is more than you know in a true science. FINED FOR PETTY LARCENY The police arrested two Belgian workmen between 12 and 1 o'clock on Saturday night. It seems they were considerably intoxicated and it is claimed they took a package out of a wagon belonging to "Fish" Burnett. The Belgians evidently supposed the package contained liquor, but in this they were mistaken, for it was provisions. They were fined $10 apiece, which they paid and were released. DISTURBED THE PEACE Three Mexicans, Joe Gutterey, Cruz Martinez and Joe Ricon, occupying a Mexican shack on East Broadway, created a disturbance the other evening and fell into the hands of the police. Martinez, besides getting a bad beating, had a fife of $10 to pay. His two companions escaped with having a fine of $5 and 10 days assessed against them, which later was suspended during their good behavior. DEATH OF MRS. Kuster against C. F. Mansur of Santa Ana and Gold River Mining company, begun in Los Angeles, has been transferred to this county from Los Angeles for trial. Kuster is represented by Attorney Arthur Wright of Los Angeles and defendant, Mansur, by Williams & Rutan of Santa Ana. Suit is for $4750 and is aimed directly at Mansur, a banker of Santa Ana, the mining concern being insolvent. The complaint states that on April 17, 1908, Mansur paid five cents per share for 15,000 shares of stock in the Gold River mining company, and agreed to pay the remainder, ninety-five cents, so that in all he would pay par value. The complaint states that Mansur paid $750, and that there is $14,250 unpaid. It is alleged that the $14,250 has never been paid and the directors refuse to collect, that the company is insolvent and there is nothing left to pay creditors, this alleged debt of Mansur's being an asset. On January 26, 1912, Mrs. A. B. Kuster, a widow, secured judgment of $4750 against the company, and has assigned it to plaintiff. It is alleged that the stubs of the company's stock book indicates that Mansur's stock was transferred from W. E. McEuen. The complaint alleges that this is not true, that the stock came from the treasury of the company. The plaintiff hopes to compel Mansur to pay the amount of the judgment against the company out of the alleged debt of the company. BUENA PARK ITEMS Mr. and Mrs. George R.
