J. B. Rea was caught in a heavy rainstorm at Santa Ana on Friday afternoon, when he went to bring home his daughter, Miss Kate Rea, who is teaching in the high school in that city. Passing clouds precipitated a downpour which Mr. Rea says he never saw equaled in his long residence in California. He drove under a large tree near the school and escaped what promised to be a drenching. In half an hour the sky was clear, and Miss Rea having emerged from the school, the homeward journey was taken up without further mishap.

Judge Howard had three Mexicans in court on Monday, one being charged with disturbing the peace, the other two being plain drunks. The first drew a prize package of ninety days in the county jail. The two others were sent to the city jail, one for twenty days, the next for five days.

P. H. Krick who was some weeks ago bitten by a dog in the west country began at once taking Pasteur treatment from Dr. Beebe. Mr. Krick some time ago disposed of his Collie dogs, and he says no more dogs for him. He is of opinion that all dogs are more or less susceptible to rabies, and that cats are in a similar category. The dog which bit him was not believed to have rabies, but was sick, its stomach being drawn up in lanky fashion. Mr. Krick was talking to its owner, and as he turned to go the dog caught him by the leg.

After the close of the games prizes were awarded. First, second and third prizes were given Miss Augusta Lensing winning lady's first prize and Frank Walters the gentleman's first. Following the awarding of prizes refreshments were served by the young ladies. Quite a number of young folks form Santa Ana and Orange, as well as Anaheim, were present and all enjoyed themselves.
The sugar refinery of the Southern California sugar company located 2 miles south of Santa Ana, finished the season's run yesterday. The campaign for the factory shows that it has sliced and made into sugar about 50,000 tons of sugar beets. The percentage of sweetness in the beets has been good and the yield satisfactory. The mill has already begun to sign acreage for next year. In common with other factories of Southern California it offers an advance of fifty cents per ton to the farmer for his sugar beets. There are but few flourishing in the northern city and preparations making for the exposition in 1915. He and his family left for the north on the afternoon train.

Mrs. C. Langenberger is expected to return the latter part of the week from San Francisco, where she visited her son, Gus Langenberger, the past month. She will be accompanied by her sister, Mrs. Ida Lenebach, who is in California from Germany for a visit. The two ladies had not previously met in fifty years.
W. H. Blennerhassett is lying critically ill at a Los Angeles hospital and fears are entertained for his recovery. Mr. Blennerhassett was formerly a resident of this city and for some years filled the position of secretary of the water company. He moved to Los Angeles several years ago and lived at the Jonathan club, of which organization he is a member. He is a man of large means, and for a number of years has lived in retirement.

Mrs. L. J. Brown, an old-time resident of Southern California, died at her home east of town, at six o’clock Friday evening of a complication of disorders. The remains were taken to Los Angeles on Monday and interred in Rosedale cemetery by the side of her daughter, who was buried there two years ago. She was the grandmother of C. L. Horton, the well-known Eastside rancher.
