The Weekly Gazette. ANAHEIM’S CARNIVAL Anaheim’s carnival, the five day festival planned and carried out by residents of the Mother Colony, came to a close yesterday afternoon without any untoward incident and to the entire satisfaction of its promoters and the community in general, to judge by the comment heard from those most interested. Although the weather was most unfavorable for at least two days of the period over which the carnival extended, the crowds in attendance were the largest assembled for anything of the kind ever attempted in the county, and during the whole time the most perfect order and good feeling prevailed, the order of the day being apparently to make the event one long to be remembered as a coming together of the residents of the best little county in the state in joyous re-union. Saturday was what might be termed Santa Ana day at the carnival, and the big crowd that attended from the county seat town was given a warm hearted welcome and made to feel that its coming was appreciated. The Blade is not quite convinced that carnivals are all that are claimed for them as advertising media, but the many who evidently do believe in this sort of advertising must surely be satisfied that Anaheim did itself proud in carrying out the affair just ended.—Santa Ana Blade. Ben Dauser has let a contract to Aug Backs and Conrad Stueckle for the erection of a large two-story warehouse adjoining his mill on Orange Avenue. ANNUAL MEETING Anaheim Fruit Association The annual meeting of the Anaheim Fruit Association will be held at the packing-house on Santa Ana street, on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 1:30 p.m. Besides the regular business, arrangements have been made to have several speakers present who will talk on various subjects which will be both interesting and instructive to all orange growers. G. W. Sandilands, Secretary. Anaheim, Oct. 2, 1911. NEW DAIRY To the People of Anaheim: We, the Sanitary Gold Seal Dairy, of Los Angeles, Cal., have been purchasing and using the milk produced by W. D. Culberson, of Anaheim, and have always found it clean pure and perfectly free from any taint or odor, and can cheerfully recommend it to anyone desiring a very high grade milk. Respectfully, N. L. PHILP & CO., Proprietors Sanitary Gold Seal Dairy, 1117 Quincy Street, Los Angeles. A BIG LANDSLIDE In business at the new Star Theater last week. And the bill was a crackerjack. Headed by the clever acrobatic team, Frawley & Hunt, followed by the charming soubrette, Pattle Carney, and the Star motion-pictures, consisting of dramatic, instructive, and comedy subjects, were of the latest creations. Bedillia’s dream proved to be a mirth-provoking picture of special interest. Mr. Bedillia, proprietor and manager, promises a bigger and better show for the coming week in his up-to-the-minute and cozy little theater, the Star. Ben Dauser has let a contract to Aug Backs and Conrad Stueckle for the erection of a large two-story warehouse adjoining his mill on Orange St. The building will be modern in its equipment, and will be used by the newly formed orange growers association. Features of the Carnival appreciated by the large crowds in attendance were displays of fireworks by Japanese on Saturday evening at the fair grounds and on Sunday forenoon opposite the city hall. Both events evoked much favorable comment. The daylight display on Sunday being especially noteworthy. The Japanese association are entitled to a vote of thanks from the Carnival management. Placentia school trustees have an advertisement in another column of this issue calling for bids for the erection of an eight room schoolhouse to be erected in that thriving community. Contractors who are interested are referred to the adv. which will be found elsewhere in this paper. On Saturday, Oct. 21, the Anaheim union high school trustees will open sealed bids for erection of the $35,000 administration building, a portion of the group now under course of construction. Contractors who are interested will find the advertisement in another column. Only five deputies were appointed by Chief of Police Kellenberger to assist in maintaining order during the carnival, and besides directing the immense crowds and keeping the streets clear they had very little to do. Very few arrests were made and those only for plain drunks or minor offenses. The special deputies were Ernest Bowen, W. F. Hanns, H. H. Garland, Louis Daniels and H. J. Reymer. Attorney Ames has returned from a business trip to Bakersfield. Harvesting of the bean crop is now in progress and will bring to growers a million dollars. W. E. Connors, an officer of the Whittler State School was in town Saturday in the interest of that acrobatic team, Frawley & Hunt, followed by the charming soubrette, Pattle Carney, and the Star motion-pictures, consisting of dramatic, instructive, and comedy subjects, were of the latest creations. Bedillia's dream proved to be a mirth-provoking picture of special interest. Mr. Beddig, proprietor and manager, promises a bigger and better show for the coming week in his up-to-the-minute and cozy little theater, the Star. STANTON There was a short session of the city trustees Wednesday night. Trustee Muller was absent, being in Los Angeles temporarily. He is expected back in a few days and intends to remain a citizen of Stanton. On account of the city treasury's emaciated condition it was decided that no more road work will be done for the present. It will be but a short time, probably, until rains will begin to fall and roads will then be in better shape. Next spring, with the treasury replenished, it is the purpose of the board to put all the roads in good condition as far as possible with the funds available. E. F. Stahl has moved here from Los Angeles to take charge of the ranch which he recently purchased from E. K. Muller. His household goods were hauled out from the city on Thursday by W. H. Kennedy. Aug Backs and Conrad Stueckle have completed the erection of a handsome two-story residence for Ben Dauser on East Broadway. The structure costs $4000 and is a palatial addition to the city's architecture. H. Hansen has the contract for painting it.
