IT WAS AN ANAHEIM DAY
Local Baseballists Land on Long End of 7 to 6 Score
While it was nothing like the game of the Sunday before, still it was interesting to a certain extent and that was that Anaheim won.
Mensenkamp and Schneider were in the points on Sunday for the locals, and as usual the game was anybody's until the last man was out in the visitors' half of the ninth.
The aforesaid visitors came highly touted as twice conquerors of the Tufts-Lyons, but that's a joke, because the Tufts wouldn't stand to have anything like that put over on them.
Knabelkamp, who started the game for the Angelic crew, was soon forced to give up the box to one of his teammates, who had nothing but a straight ball and a well worn glove. He was some picking. Scholtz, the new player, landed on Mr. Knabelkamp for two singles and a two-bagger. Benjamin Carpenter two two-baggers, Eddie Goddard a two-bagger, and various other players swatted him at will.
The game was altogether different from that of last Sunday, as most all the outs were made infield.
As usual Mensenkamp gave out in the seventh and was forced to give way to that old warhorse, one Stump Huntington, who saved the day but gets no credit therefor.
Gerkin had a "bum" finger, so he was sent to the outfield to rest up.
Lewis, generally the most reliable player in the bunch, was there with a quartet of large, juicy errors—but that happens to the best of them—and as Anaheim won, what's the difference.
against the change, while San Juan Capistrano with a large vote will favor going wet. Those who certified to the petition are Ed Mendelson, Dan Salazar and J. T. Combs of San Juan Capistrano, and F. C. Graves of Tustin.
NO DIVORCE FOR HER
Court Holds that Plaintiff Failed to Prove Allegations of Cruelty
Judge Cole on Thursday afternoon in the Superior Court refused to grant plaintiff divorce on the ground that she had failed to prove charges of cruelty as alleged in her complaint.
The plaintiff, Mrs. Rosalind Nickey, sued F., P. Nickey of Santa Ana for divorce and a division of the property. The divorce was denied, but the plaintiff was allowed the sum of $75 a month until further order of the court.
In passing upon the case, Judge Cole said he believed it was wrong and the courts ought to discourage people who have lived together for a period of years from going into court and setting up things that had taken place in the privacy of their domestic relations as grounds for a complaint in divorce suits.

NOTES OF THE GAME
The sporting editor of this metropolitan journal has a hunch straight from the shoulder that the local team is in for a small shakeup. One of the proposed new players will be a pitcher and the other an outfielder, and they are both needed.
Manager Flala has the Hon. Frank Chance beaten several blocks when it comes to that nervous feeling, when the locals are getting in bad.
Joe Backs made his third home-run Sunday.
Alvin Nowotny and Frank Tausch were absent Sunday. Please don't do it again.
Claude Swope will probably land the job of pigtail as he has a wing that will carry at least twenty feet after two injections of hot air.
It is now a well known fact that H. Stock can never come back.
"Google" and his Hughey Jennings yell, was somewhat late Sunday —

No polls were opened in Magnolia district, and electors.of that district voted at Loara.
There having been more than a two-thirds majority for bonds, they were carried, and the money will be available in the near future.
The election was necessitated by insufficiency of funds to complete the buildings now building.A bond issue of $100,000 was voted in the spring for new school buildings.Of this amount $70,000 was for new highschool buildings. Thirty thousand was voted by Anaheim grammar school district, which purchased the old highschool property at $25,000. This gave the highschool district $95,000.As this sum fell short another bond issue of $35,000 was called for and approved by the people.A light vote was pollled. Many advocates of the bonds failed to vote.
WATER IN BAY IS BLACK
Sewage from Santa Ana Sugar Factory Arouses Newport Beach
A committee from the Santa Ana sugar factory, consisting of F.P.Nickey,R.J.Blee and F.H.Case visited Newport Beach Thursday morning, and in company with Trustees C.A.Barton and S.L.Collins and others went over the canals and lake at West Newport and up the drainage ditch before it reaches the Santa Ana river above the Boyd ranch. The gentlemen from the factory agreed that the people of Newport had cause for complaint,as the water in the bay was black where the drainage from the sugar factory emptied into it and had a very disagreeable odor. They said that they had no idea conditions were as bad as they found them and that they would remedy the evil as soon as possible,但that it could not be stopped immediately without closing down the sugar factory. This would cause thousands of dollars of loss,不 only to the factory but to the beet growers as well.As the factory has only about six weeks more to run it is impossible for the sugar factory to build a pipe To the Anaheim Board of Your committee on st begs leave to report as a highway act (Sec.4) reference to route,"along the Coast by the most direct al route, connecting the city it passes, and joining th population together with roads as may be necessary therewith the several counties east and west of such way."

ASK LIQUOR ELECTION
Residents of Southern Part of County Petition Supervisors
Under the local option law, an effort is to be made to turn the southern end of Orange county into "wet" territory. On Friday there was filed with the board of supervisors a bulky petition asking that an election be called to determine whether or not saloons shall be allowed in that portion of the Fifth supervisor district lying outside of the incorporated cities of Santa Ana and Newport Beach. The precincts included in the territory are Tustin, Delhi, Newport, San Joaquin, El Toro, Laguna, Trabuco, and San Juan Capistrano.
The effort is bound to stir up a fight, and the contest promises to be close and bitter. Tustin with a heavy vote is likely to go strong into it and had a very disagreeable odor. They said that they had no idea conditions were as bad as they found them and that they would remedy the evil as soon as possible, but that it could not be stopped immediately without closing down the sugar factory. This would cause thousands of dollars of loss, not only to the factory but to the beet growers as well. As the factory has only about six weeks more to run it is impossible for the sugar factory to build a pipe line into the ocean in this time, so there will be no relief as far as this season is concerned. The committee have positive assurance that drainage from the factory would not be run into the bay another season, and the local committee, realizing the many hardships the sugar factory has had to contend with, and not wishing to close down an institution so valuable to the county, accepted the promise as satisfactory.
MARRIED AT ORANGE
Orange, Sept. 19.—Burley Keiser and Laura Davis, young people of Orange, surprised their friends by a sudden marriage. The romance is the outcome of a school love affair. It was entirely unexpected, because of the youth of both the boy and the girl. The bride graduated in June from the Orange high school. Young Keiser was a senior this year. She is 19 and he 18. The young groom was refused a marriage license because he was under age limit, but coaxed his father into a written certificate of consent to the marriage.
W. D. Thompson and family are home from a week's camping trip at Mineral Springs in Santiago Canyon.
D. C. Pixley of Orange was in town the first of the week.

EMAND THAT NEW HIGHWAY CONNECT CENTERS OF POPULATION
Reciprocity Committee Reports Favorable Action by Fullerton Chamber of Commerce—Will Exchange Fullerton Ide for Anaheim Laundry — Board of Trade Wants Specimens for Decoration of Carnival Float—Dietrich Denies Cutting Santa Ana River Levee—Other Meeting Notes
The proposed new state highway which will connect San Diego with points as far north as Santa Barbara and which had previously been endorsed by the Anaheim Board of Trade, received another boost at Monday night's meeting when the following resolution introduced by the Highway committee consisting of Mills Howard and Eygabroad, was adopted. The committee is working in conjunction with similar committees from other bodies in an endeavor to secure the road for the centers of population on Orange county instead of along the coast line as originally proposed. Following is the resolution:
To the Anaheim Board of Trade;—Your committee on state highway begs leave to report as follows: The highway act (Sec. 4) reads in reference to route, "along the Pacific Coast by the most direct and practical route, connecting the county seats of the several counties through which it passes, and joining the centers of population together with such branch roads as may be necessary to connect therewith the several county seats lying east and west of such state high-

To make your money safe, when it goes into "Home Builders" as a stock owner, is the constant aim and effort of the management.
Home building by wholesale is a very profitable business and is shown by the fact that during this company's first 42 months it paid back to its stockholders, in cash dividends, more than half their original investment, and increased the market value of their shares to more than double their original cost.
The management has been just as careful about the safety of the enterprise as they have about its earnings, investing the stockholders' money in safe channels, in deeds mortgages, etc., where there is no speculation. In economical administration and in giving every stockholder and home buyer a square deal.
Every safeguard is employed to make your investment secure and you should have your money here. We invite free and complete inquiry. Let us hear from you today.

The reciprocity committee, which has been endeavoring to secure an amicable agreement with Fullerton relative to an interchange of business, reported as follows:
Your committee on reciprocal trade with northern Orange county, likewise home trade, reports as follows: The Fullerton chamber of commerce heartily endorsed the reciprocity proposition and appointed a committee to push the matter and secure the patronage of their people for the Anaheim steam laundry. Some patrons claim the work of the Anaheim laundry is superior to work done elsewhere. In Anaheim there are still people who are sending their work away and your committee would suggest that the board of trade strongly urge the people to keep their trade at home.
The Fullerton Ice Co. will be prepared to furnish our dealers with ice after this season. "Orange county ice for Orange county." should be the slogan and people urged to support it.

Geo. L. Dietrich addressed the board and denied in most emphatic language that he had been guilty of cutting the Santa Ana river levee for irrigating purposes as previously reported. He would be the first man damaged, he said, by an overflow, and he wanted previous statements and newspaper reports rectified.
The committee constructing the board of trade float for the carnival parade sent forth a cry for help. They want specimens of agricultural or horticultural products with which to decorate it, and anyone having anything of extraordinary size on hand will confer a favor by bringing it in.
J. F. Ahlborn reported that a committee consisting of himself, W. J.W. Orr and a delegation of city trustees recently visited Riverside for the purpose of investigating the ornamental street light system. They made no decision as to the poles to be adopted, but concluded to submit designs to the property owners and let them decide on the style of pole to be erected. The American-Orr Concrete Pole company will probably build the poles.
AMSTUTZ ELECTED CAPTAIN
Uniform Rank, K. of P., Choose New Commander
Walter Amstutz was elected captain of Company 26, U.R.K.P., at a company meeting on Thursday evening. Election of a new captain was made necessary by the resignation of Frank Tausch, who is unable, owing to private business engagements, to fill the duties of the office. Amstutz was unanimously elected to the position. He has been first lieutenant of the company. The selection is a good one, Amstutz being one of the best drilled officers in the regiment.
Alvin Nowotny was elected first lieutenant, and George Eastland second lieutenant.
Company 26 will go into active drilling to perfect itself for the biennial encampment at Fort Worth next year.
The Ladies Aid Society of the Presbyterian Church will meet on Thursday, the 28th, in the Sunday school room at 2 o'clock. All ladies of the church and congregation are invited.
