The Ladies Aid of the Presbyterian church w' meet Thursday, the 22nd, at 2 p.m., in the Sunday schoolroom. All ladies of the church and congregation are invited; special invitation to strangers.
Mrs. F. C. Spencer and Mrs. Vander Horck have been engaged for a few weeks past in constructing a mission swing. Good progress has been made, and the ladies have proven themselves adepts in the wood work, and will soon have finished other pieces of woodwork.
Judge Howard had as guests the past week his brother, E. G. Howard and son Charles of Santa Maria. The judge drove them over the valley in his auto, and on his return asked Charley how this section compared with the Santa Maria valley. "You've got it skinned a mile," was the young man's rejoinder.

The Ladies' Catholic Benevolent association will have its regular meeting at K.C. hall on Wednesday, June 28, at 2:30 p.m. All Catholic ladies are requested to be present.
Loule Bushard has been on the sick list during the week, but was yesterday in improved physical condition. He will doubtless be able to resume his business activities in a day or two.
Miss Kimball, a teacher in the grammar school, will leave Thursday for Berkeley on the Yale, and will take a post-graduate course in domestic science and domestic art. Miss Kimball will later return to this city.
J.W. Parmelee of Los Angeles is in town organizing a lodge of Loyal order of Moose, and has secured the names of a number of citizens who will join the organization. Mr. Parmelee is located at 120 East Center street, where he will be pleased to answer all questions relating to the new order.

One was penalized in the sum of $5, another was deported to the county jail for sixty days and the third asked for a jury trial. The judge communicated with District Attorney West, who will look up points and authorities.
Those who love the click of the ivories will have the opportunity of witnessing a good game on Friday night, when C. Fisher, local pool champion, will play a matched game with Foster, the Orange crack, at J.

John Sinawley, father of Mrs. Oliver Hill, and granddaughter, Mrs.O.A.Mullinix, left on Sunday afternoon for South English, Iowa. Mr.Smawley will remain until fall. Mrs.Mullinix wil visit with relatives and friends at various points in Iowa and will be absent several weeks.
Attention is called to the adv.of Charles D.Smith, a piano tuner of exceptional ability. Mr.Smith has a large list of regular patrons but he is desirous of extending his field of activity. He makes the modest assertion that once he tunes a piano the owner never desires to dispense with his services.
The will of Dr.C.L.Rich of Fullerton was filed for probate this week by Attorneys Williams & Rutan for the widow, Helen May Rich. The estate is valued at $7000, of which $5,000 is life insurance. A gold watch is left to Earl Hemphill. The remainder of the estate goes to relatives, most of it to the widow.
Mr. and Mrs.Will Lawrence and little daughter Mildred arrived Sunday from Bowie,A.T.,and will remain during the summer. They went to San Diego on Monday,Mr.Lawrence being a delegate to a convention of railroad men. They will return this week and will spend the summer visiting relatives and friends.
Six young ladies of this section will graduate at the Los Angeles Normal school tomorrow. They are Miss Agnes Christensen,Miss Iva Cameron,Miss Laura Newman,Miss Lillie Zeus,and Miss Lois Blake.Two of the graduates have already secured positions as teachers.Miss Christensen will teach at Garden Grove next term,and Miss Blake at Olinda.

The game will be of 50 points, straight pool and consist of the best two out of three. Both are strong players and an interesting time is anticipated. The game last Friday evening between Fisher and Prof. Mills, a traveling expert, was won by the latter. Fisher was not at his best and as a result did not put up the game of which he is capable.
Richard Melrose goes to Los Angeles tomorrow to attend the graduation exercises of the State Normal School, of the board of trustees of which he is president. He will present diplomas to 287 graduates, the largest number ever graduating from a normal school in California. Of these six are young ladies of this city. The trustees of the normal school will probably sell the present building and site, for which they have an offer of $600,000. The legislature passed an appropriation of $100,000 for purchase of a new site, and the trustees have already more than 30 offers for the sale of property to them for this purpose. The new normal school soon to be erected in Los Angeles will be one of the largest and best equipped educational buildings in the west.
Ernest Huenemeyer returned on Saturday from a three-weeks trip to Rhineland, Missouri, and other points east. He did yeoman service in telling easterners of the many advantages of this city, and to a Rhineland reporter spoke in true Booster fashion of this rich and growing section. He saw nothing on his trip to tempt him away from Anaheim. He this week purchased the Germania restaurant and will reopen it as a first-class eating house.
C. E. Lamme, cashier of the Orange County Savings bank of Santa Ana this week received a copy of a letter received by the German American Savings bank of Los Angeles in regard to the sudden death of Miss Carrie Crossmyre, a Santa Ana nurse who was well known in Anaheim, at Naples, Italy, on May 29. The letter was written by Dr. James H.Dawson of Upland, who attended her and who was traveling in the same party with her. Dr. Dawson states Miss Crossmyre was taken ill with German measles, and while the doctor was away she took some capsules that she had taken from Santa Ana. Those capsules contained opium one-half of a grain, and bis subuit, five grains. Taking this narcotic when she was in a weakened condition brought about her death within a short time.The physician says there is no thought in his mind that Miss Crossmyre intended to injure herself.

Members of Mrs. Adams' orchestra attended a house-warming in Los Angeles last Wednesday evening at the new home of Mrs. Shields, a former resident of this city. A splendid supper was served followed by an evening of music and games.
William McLauchlin writes from Minneapolis that he has recovered from a recent surgical operation sufficiently to leave the hospital at Rochester, Minn., and devote his time again to the enjoyment of life. Mr. McLauchlin will remain in Minneapolis with his wife for a brief visit, and will proceed to Banff, Alberta, where there will spend some time at a summer resort in the mountains. He left this city two months ago for Rochester, Minn., to undergo a surgical operation for intestinal disorders. He was operated upon for appendicitis and the cause for intestinal troubles removed. His many friends here will be glad to note progress of his recovery, and will indulge the hope that he and his wife may soon return home.

Judge Howard and family went to the Landing on Tuesday, where Mrs. Howard and the children will spend the summer. Mrs. Howard has been in ill health of late, and it is expected a sojourn at the beach will be of material benefit to her. The judge will make trips to the beach several times a week.
Joe Lyons died in Los Angeles on Friday and the remains were interred Monday. He contracted typhoid-pneumonia while at work in Arizona, and was taken to Los Angeles for medical treatment, and although receiving the best of medical attendance he succumbed to the dread malady. His many friends here are grieved to learn of his untimely end.
