Social dance at opera house on Friday evening, June 2, under management of the opera house.
The local high school baseball team was roped in at Orange on Friday to the tune of 11 to 1. This places Anaheim fourth in the county league.
The Hawkeye picnic scheduled to be held at the County Park on Saturday has been postponed. It was found that many could not attend on Saturday, as they could not leave their work. The next meeting of the association will be held the first Monday evening in June, when a definite date will be decided upon.
Louis Baker, aged 23, recently arrived from Milwaukee, was operated upon at the Sanitarium some days ago and his right leg removed above the knee. Mr. Baker suffered with a large tumor at the knee, and amputation was resorted to. He sustained an injury to the knee while skating on ice a year and a half ago, which developed a tumor; and its removal was necessary to save his life. He is convalescing and was yesterday reported to be in improved physical condition.
Judge and Mrs. Shanley entertained at dinner on Saturday Col. Goff of Providence, R. I., his son and two daughters, and Andrew Fulton of Pittsburg. The latter was in Anaheim for the fourteenth time, making a trip here once a year. He leaves New York next week for a tour of Europe. Col. Goff is a wealthy resident of Providence, and with his family is touring Southern California.
B. T. Beale and W. G. Mason have returned from San Francisco, where they attended the session of the Odd Fellows grand lodge as delegates from the local lodge.

The Christian church is being repainted, the interior retinted and the plastering repaired. Contractor Hansen and a force of experts are at work upon the edifice. The cost will amount to $400.
Mrs. Hiltscher entertained the ladies' euchre club at her home in Fullerton on Thursday afternoon.
Mrs. Bennerscheidt won the first prize, Mrs. A. Rimpau the second and Mrs. Shanley took the consolation. Refreshments were served and a delightful afternoon enjoyed by all.
Among visitors at the Landing on Sunday were Oscar and Alfred Heying, Google Horwitz, Fayette Lewis, Harry Pearson and Fritz Yungbluth. These young gentlemen are erecting a comfortable clubhouse at the seaside, and will occupy it during the summer months.
G. N. Simpson and wife of Billings, Montana, arrived this week and will become permanent residents. Mr. Simpson is a brother of V. U. Simpson, and although not so pretty, looks like a good sensible man and ought to make a desirable citizen. Nobody loves a fat man.
A. Pierotti was in town from Placentia some days ago meeting with old-time friends and recounting experiences of the early days. Mr. Pierotti came here in 1878, and can tell many interesting stories of reminiscences during the past thirty-three years.

Mr. and Mrs. Holcomb drove to Ontario in their auto on Sunday and were caught in a drenching rain. The precipitation was more than an inch. They returned as far as Fullerton, where their clothing was dried. This side of the hills no rain fell, but roads in the upper valley were muddy and in places well-nigh impassable.
Dr. R. A. Cushman, accompanied by his family and his mother, arrived on Monday evening from Eureka. He has taken up his residence in the Pierce cottage on West Broadway and will locate permanently. Dr. Cushman was a number of years ago chairman of the republican county central committee of this county, and has many friends here who will be glad to hear of his return.
The Christian Science Society of this city has purchased two lots at the corner of Hedwig and Chartres streets, and propose to erect a church edifice on the property in the near future. Plans for a building adequate to meet the demands of this growing organization are being prepared and the members will soon be able to rejoice in the possession of a church home of their own.
Invitations have been received for the wedding of Dr. Julius O. Schwentker, son of H. Schwentker of this city, and Miss Alma May Howell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Clark Howell of Albuquerque, New Mexico, which will occur at the First Presbyterian church in that city on June 1 at half past eight o'clock in the evening. Dr. Schwentker is a well-known osteopathic physician who formerly resided here with his parents, but for some years past has lived in Albuquerque, where he has built up a lucrative practice. He is a young man of exemplary character and has many friends here who wish him all sorts of good fortune on his coming marriage.
The case of R. E. Coffman vs. L. W. Bushard engaged the attention of the superior court on Monday, the 15th inst. Mr. Coffman was induced to trade a piece of Riverside proper-

The entertainment given at the high school last Friday evening by Misses Grim and Cooper was a most enjoyable one. Miss Grim showed real talent as a reader, while her versatility was shown by her assuming the part of various speakers in the rendering of a three act play. Miss Cooper showed high artistic ability as a whistler and was recalled again and again. A small but appreciative audience was present.

The case of R. E. Coffman vs. L. W. Bushard engaged the attention of the superior court on Monday, the 15th inst. Mr. Coffman was induced to trade a piece of Riverside property to Bushard for a house and lot at Goldfield, Nevada, which was represented to be bringing the owner a monthly rent of $42. The $42 looked tempting to Coffman, but it never reached him. When he discovered that his dividends were not coming regularly, he made an investigation, and at once brought suit to rescind the trade. The judgment of the court orders that Bushard re-convey the Riverside property to Coffman. F. C. Spencer represented Mr. Coffman.
John C. Cordes was very pleasantly surprised at his home in the West End on Friday evening when members of the Concordia singing society appeared and announced their purpose of being his guests for the evening. Mr. Cordes could not object, being confronted by superior numbers, and the members were invited in. They announced they would tender their host a serenade on the occasion of his birthday. Mr. Cordes was informed that inasmuch as he was president of the Concordia, the members would consider themselves quite at home, and would sing in their best form. The evening was most enjoyably spent. Mr. Cordes retaliated for the intrusion by providing refreshments with genuine hospitality. It was late when the guests departed for their homes.
