The Cincinnati entertainers, consisting of Miss Augusta Grimm and Miss Jean Cooper, will give one of their delightful entertainments in the high school auditorium Friday evening, May 12, under auspices of the local high school Miss Grim is a niece of C. F. Grim of this city. She is a reader and musician of rare ability. Miss Cooper is one of the most artistic whistlers now before the public. Al Smith was in town one day this week driving his new touring car, accompanied by his wife and Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Smith. Al is on Easy street and nothing is too good for him.
Johnny Luedke was here one day last week on a visit to relatives and friends, the guest of Tim Boege and family. Mr. Luedke is an old-time Anaheim boy. He met many friends during his short stay and enjoyed his visit immensely. Mr. Luedke is now a resident of Ely, Nevada.
John Kenneth Turner of Los Angeles, brother of Prof. R. I. Turner, of the high school faculty, was visiting in Anaheim Saturday and Sunday. Mr. Turner is the author of a book entitled "Barbarous Mexico," and is a magazine writer of considerable note. He left here for the borderland of Mexico to make observations and to take notes of the insurrection and will afterward go to Washington to testify before the La Follette senatorial committee. He is an authority on Mexican affairs.
Rosario Saiz, who in addition to a charge of murder against him is charged with aiding a prisoner to escape from the county jail was on Tuesday given his preliminary examination and held in the sum of two thousand dollars to appear for trial in the superior court. Witnesses against him were former Sheriff Theo. Lacy and S. H. Overacker, the old man who was convicted of murder, and who was in jail when Saiz escaped. The stories of the jail break told by Overacker and Lacy tallied and Saiz admitted their truth.

A 'bus load of young men enjoyed picnic and barbecue at Sycamore flats on Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Herman, Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Wright and Mrs. Parr enjoyed an auto ride on Friday up the coast as far north as Ventura county. They passed through Whittier, Los Angeles and other points and report a fine day's trip.
G. B. Raymond of Portland, Oregon, brother-in-law of J. F. Ahlborn, arrived from the north on Monday for a brief visit with relatives. He left on Tuesday by boat for Portland, being accompanied by his mother, who goes north for a visit with his family during the summer.
The Ladies Guild of St. Michael's, Anaheim, will meet with Mrs. Gardiner and Miss Gregg at Mrs. Gardiner's, Orangethorpe Ave., on Thursday, May 4, at half-past 2. A full attendance is requested as there will be an election of officers for the ensuing year.

D. L. Warden was in town on Monday afternoon from his ranch at Magnolia. Mr. Warden is a candidate for city clerk of the proposed town of Stanton.
Honorable Clyde Bishop will address a patriotic meeting at the C.A.R. hall in Santa Ana at 2 o'clock p.m.Friday, April 28th. All patriotic organizations and citizens in general are cordially invited to hear him. There will also be a musical program, together with "war reminiscences." Let everybody attend. Seats are free.
Local Montanans are making preparations for a picnic at the county park some time next month. Invitations will be issued to all local members of the Montana society, as well as a number of others living at Long Beach and other places. About 35 families are expected to be present. After the picnic an effort will be made to have the Montana state picnic held at some point in this vicinity.
Samuel Abraham died early on Monday morning at his home one-half mile east of Hansen station. Deceased succumbed to brain fever after a short illness. He was a native of Russia, aged 32 years, and leaves a wife and five children. Interment took place yesterday for ennoon at 10 o'clock in Anaheim cemetery.
Wm. McLauchlin leaves today accompanied by his wife for Rochester, Minn., where he will enter a sanitarium for treatment to relieve intestinal troubles with which he has suffered for some time past. He will be absent during the summer, and may visit other points east. His residence on Broadway will be occupied until his return by Mr. and Mrs. Hadsell.
Mr. and Mrs. V. U. Simpson motored to Long Beach on Sunday, having with them their guests, Mrs. W.B. Nutting and son, who had visited them here since Friday. They returned home in the evening.
M. M. Crookshank, John Cubbon and Crockett Bowers were over from Santa Ana some days ago, and in company of Henry Adams drove in an auto through Norwalk, Artesia, Downey and Whittier. They are interested in the Griffith lumber company, of which Mr. Adams is local manager. "Hen" was on his good behavior while his bosses were here.
F. Montenyohl has arrived from Santa Ana, accompanied by his wife, and will take a position as city mail carrier, having passed the examination successfully and been appointed to the position by Postmaster Duckworth. Mr. Montenyohl was for years connected with the Santa Ana post-office and is an experienced and competent mail carrier.
C. G. Billings has received a letter from his brother-in-law, George Nichols, who left with his wife some weeks ago for Alberta, also one from his nephew, Galen McDevitt, who left the same time for Minto, North Dakota. Both gentlemen write they are experiencing cold weather, and they look forward to the time when they will again be in the land of sunshine and flowers.
Fred A. Miller who is here from Imperial to look over the hotel situation saw the first battle at Mexicali some months ago between insurgents and Gov. Veja's troops, in which that officer was severely wounded. The latter saved his small army from annihilation only by a masterful retrograde movement. Mr. Miller will probably remain in this city permanently, and will enthuse new life into the hotel project which the board of trade have had under consideration for some time past.
