The ladies of St. Michael’s Guild are preparing an entertainment — The County Fair—with a large cast of popular local people, to be given Friday evening, April 28, in the opera house. This is to be a one-act farce, with a number of pretty choruses interspersed, and is under the direction of Miss Ethel Snyder, who directed the Union Depot last year. No person who likes genuine fun should miss this entertainment. “Lady and the Parson” at Fairland. That good vaudeville is appreciated was demonstrated last night, when Marie Campbell and Harold Pollard presented their latest sketch the “Lady and the Parson” to a bumper house which was convulsed with laughter at Miss Campbell’s clever impersonation of the “Lady” and Mr. Pollard’s droll portrayal of the “Parson.” This clever sketch will be repeated tonight, Wednesday, and on Thursday, and produced as it is with an appropriate stage setting, is well worthy a visit. Beebe returned on Monday from a business visit of several days to Lindsey, Fresno county. He found orchards and crops looking nicely and the section enjoying a fulltide of prosperity. M. C. Sackett, V. U. Simpson and J. B. Rea drove to Laguna in the former's auto some days ago. Mrs. Rea, who had been sojourning at the beach for a few days, returned with them in the evening. Mrs. N. M. Darnall and daughter of Fairbury, Ill., were visitors with Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Markle this week. Mrs. Darnall was a pupil of Mr. Markle just fifty years ago. They had not met for over twenty-five years. J. B. Neff returned on Saturday from Corona, having held five successful institutes at points in Riverside county. He left for San Diego on Sunday afternoon and is devoting this week to meetings in the southern county. Mr. and Mrs. A. Pierotti, Mrs. Forbes and Mrs. Crawford of Placentia were in town on Monday in the former's auto. Mr. and Mrs. Pierotti had with them their young son, who arrived a month ago, and is the finest baby in Placentia. Herman Stern and Robert Mills have purchased ten acres of land from J. O. Royer, located on the corner of the Garden Grove and Ball roads. The tract will be improved under direction of Mr. Mills, who will take up his residence upon the tract. On June 6th the supervisors will offer for sale a thirty-five-year franchise for gas mains on county roads in this county from El Toro to the north county line. For some time he has been devoting his attention to cotton growing at Imperial, but comes to Anaheim with a view to locating. He will look into the hotel situation here, and is prepared to interest himself in the enterprise now assuming shape here. He reports the factory will have 13,000 acres in beets this season, from which 100,000 tons of beets are looked for. The crop looks well and a heavier tonnage is anticipated over that of last year. Miss Jaeggi is an accomplished violinist and it is hoped our people may have the privilege of hearing her while she is with us. Col. J. O. Royer and Richard Melrose left Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon for Guaymas, whence they sail for La Paz. Walter Amistutz and Dr. Broughton of Los Angeles accompanied them. A letter received from the party yesterday states Guaymas was reached in safety, with nothing doing in the insurrection line. They will be absent two weeks. Thos. B. Talbert was on Friday granted an interlocutory decree of divorce from his wife, Abbie Talbert, by Judge West. Talbert is a well-do resident of Huntington Beach, and is chairman of the Orange county board of supervisors. His wife eloped some months ago with Billy Bushard, her soul mate, and is now supposed to be living with him at Phoenix. Talbert was awarded custody of his children. Walter Johnson who was outlawed two weeks ago by the American baseball league has made his peace with the Washington club, and has signed to pitch for the Senators three years for $21,000. He left the team a month ago while it was at practice in Atlanta, Georgia. He demanded $7500 per year. His salary had been $6500. Johnson began his pitching career with the Olinda ball club, and pitched many games on the grounds in this city. He is regarded as a top-notcher in the business. Mrs. W. T. The G.R.C. of the Presbyterian Sunday school was entertained at the home of their teacherr, Mrs. U. S. Lemon, Saturday afternoon. A special feature of the afternoon was the coloring of Easter eggs and later an Easter egg hunt was enjoyed by the class who include Margaret Yung, Goldie Matthews, Ruth Lemon, Hazel Kemp, Edith Simpson, Beatrice Wilcox, Bessie Thompson, Thelma Gade, Adela Howard, Vera Steadman and Elva Starke. Rev. E. J. Harlow pastor of the Christian church, who succeeds Rev.A. B. Markle, has arrived with his family from Corona, and taken up his residence on North Lemon street. Mr. Harlow was several years a resident of Corona, and comes highly recommended as an earnest exhorter of the gospel. Mr. Markle, who has occupied the pulpit of the Christian church for seven years past, will retire from pulpit work for the present, and will devote his attention to the simple life at his home on Citron street. Frank N. Gibbs, manager of the new Gibbs lumber company, which has taken over the properties of the Consolidated lumber company in this city, Fullerton and Placentia, has arrived from Los Angeles accompanied by his family and will take up his residence here. Mr. Gibbs is a lumber-dealer of many years experience, and will maintain lumber yards at the three local points in thoroughly first-class manner. New additions will be added to the stock, and the yards maintained among the largest and best-stocked in the county.
