Mr. and Mrs. Morton Hart of Mankato, Minnesota, were guests the past week of Mrs. S. L. Beebe and family. They were taken in an auto ride to Fullerton, Whittier, Placentia and the intervening country, and expressed delight at the orange groves and beautiful scenery. While Minnesota is in the grip of winter weather, here they found balmy sunshine and fragrant flowers. Henry Adams was engaged in sharpening a large knife on an emery-wheel on Thursday when he accidentally cut a gash in the middle finger of each hand. The wound occurred at the middle joint, and only by quick action were the fingers saved from amputation. Dr. Johnston took four stitches in each gash. Henry has resolved never to sharpen a knife on an emery wheel again. Good resolution, Hen. Judge West on Friday set the case of Frank Monaghan against the Case, Hinze company and the Southern California sugar company of Santa Ana for trial on March 13. This suit was brought by Monaghan as a stockholder of the sugar company for the purpose of making the builder, the Case, Hinze company, replace part of the machinery or do whatever is necessary to bring the sugar plant to a capacity of 600 tons per day, the contract capacity which Monaghan alleges the plant cannot reach and maintain. Badger at St. Michael's church. Miss Zella Hollingworth who was last week reported to be ill with threatened appendicitis, is recovering at her parents' home on Philadelphia street, and will probably soon be out again. Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Bradford returned this week from a fortnight's honeymoon trip to Phoenix, A. T., and are now at their handsome home at Placentia. The groom was in town on Tuesday receiving congratulations of his many friends and passing around cigars. Frank Earl died on Friday after a lingering illness due to a complication of physical disorders. He was a native of Pennsylvania and was aged 27 years. He had lived in Anaheim five years. He leaves a wife and three little children. The body was shipped to Ridgway, Pennsylvania, for interment. John H. Kirsch was in town on Monday from his ranch southeast of the city. Mr. Kirsch has set his place to Valencia oranges and walnuts and has other notable improvements in view. Since coming to this section two years ago he notes many evidences of advancement, building having been especially brisk on the eastside. He is a former resident of Wisconsin, and has no desire to exchange places. Green fields the year round in Southern California are to be preferred to the zero weather now prevailing in the eastern state. Judge West took under advisement until tomorrow the application of the members of the Turn Verein to change the name of the organization to Concordia. Attorney Weisel represents the applicants at the hearing in the superior court on Thursday. John C. Cordess, Richard Krastle, R.Schellens and Charles Lange accompanied him. Testimony was given in support of the change. Victor Schumacher, representing a minority of the shareholders, protested. He produced a copy of the society's constitution and by-laws. Judge West instructed him to bring in an English translation, the same being written in the German language, and further hearing will be given the matter in court tomorrow. Bob McKee is completing the setting out of 30,000 budded orange trees at his nursery southeast of town. Joseph Helmsen has been awarded a contract by the library trustees for furnishing magazines and periodicals to that institution during the year. Rev. Badger will conduct services at the St. Michael’s Episcopal church on Sunday, Feb. 19, at 10.45 am. Sunday school at 10 o'clock. Evening services at 7.30. Mrs. Mary A. Nicholson died on Sunday at her home at Magnolia, after a brief illness, due to inflammation of the stomach. She had lived at Magnolia with her husband and two grown children since last summer. She was aged 75 years. The body was shipped on Tuesday to Seattle, her former home, for interment. Mrs. Emma Alexander of Santa Fe Springs, district deputy grand matron, O.E.S., will visit Chispa Chapter on Monday evening. Supper will be served in the hall at 6:30 pm. All members of the chapter are urged to be present, as Mrs. Alexander will have something of importance to say to them. S. O. Llewellyn is lying at the point of death at the residence of his son-in-law, Frank Fox, no improvement in his condition having been noted during the week. The patient is unable to partake food, the aperture leading to the stomach having unaccountably closed. He has eaten no food in nineteen days. His mind is clear and he converses freely with those about him. Physicians are trying by the use of instruments to effect a passage through the obstruction. G. M. Duckworth and sister, Mrs. Rexrode, are at Catalina for a week. Recorder Howard had two Mexicans in court on Monday morning, charged with drunkenness. He imposed the usual $5 fine, in each case, which was paid. The following officers were installed at the Masonic meeting held on Friday evening, Feb. 10: J. A Knapp master, C. A. Chambers tyler. A banquet was discussed. P. F. Wilson has purchased the Germania restaurant and will conduct it as a first-class eating place. The Germania has enjoyed deserved popularity for excellence during the past, and this Mr. Wilson will strive to maintain. He took possession yesterday, and is ready to serve the public with the best meals at right prices. Mr. Wilson is a former resident of Anaheim, and has many friends who will be glad to hear of his return. The Santa Ana bar association at a meeting held on Saturday appointed a committee consisting of R. Y.Williams, H. J. Forgy and W. A.
