SLAUGHTER OF INNOCENTS Tailenders Tighten Grip on Target—Leaders Fatten Averages Tightening their grip upon the honors of the tallend, the Lacy Manufacturing company's team went down before the all-conquering home team on Sunday by an awful score of 20 to 1. The single tally came in the sixth, when Guenthart surprised the natives by lifting a two-bagger to deep center. It was one of three hits scored by the visitors during the day, and was a beauty. It came in the sixth, when the locals were miles in the lead. The Los Angelan was resolved to do or die. It looked hopeless, but he took a chance. He tried to steal third. Collins flashed the ball to Fisher, but the latter was short by inches, and the ball played hide and seek along the left field fence line. Guenthart scored the only run of the visitors, while the bleachers roared their approval. Dwight Stone fanned fifteen men. The first eight to face him were sent to the bench in order. He allowed only three hits. The locals amassed 12 hits for 20 runs. The visitors tried to equal this by rolling up 12 errors. The locals made four runs in the first on a single hit, and in the sixth gave the awful spectacle of scampering ten men around the bags. A large crowd yelled its delight while the following score was being rolled up: ANAHEIM AB R H PO A E Fisher, 2b ... 6 1 2 1 1 1 Valencia, ss ... 4 3 1 1 0 2 Schneider, cf ... 6 3 2 1 0 0 Goldard, if ... 4 2 0 0 0 0 Collins, c ... 3 1 1 15 2 1 Huntington, 2b ... 5 4 2 1 2 0 Hendricks, lb ... 3 2 2 6 0 0 L. The trees had been taken up from the nursery, and were to have been planted in orchard the following day. They were valued at $1 each.
