KING'S MOUNTAIN FIELD
Charlotte, N. C., Oct. 7.—"King's Mountain Day," the anniversary of the battle of King's Mountain, S. John Hanna some two months ago lost a gold watch at his Miraflores ranch, and the timepiece was recovered this week by a little boy who found it in the garden near the house Mr. Hanna was at first unable to account for its disappearance. He valued it highly, having had it for many years, and was overjoyed to recover it. It was unharmed by its exposure to wind and weather, and on being rewound began running as if nothing had happened. The dial, instead of containing figures denoting the hours, bears the letters spelling his name.
A movement for reduction of the area of the city of Fullerton is on. There are eighteen square miles within the corporate limits of Fullerton. Some of the landowners north, east and west are desirous of withdrawing certain sections in the outlying districts, saying that it is unjust to tax them to keep up the city. Another reason for taking this step is that should Orange county vote a large sum for the purpose of improving the highways, no improvements could be made within three miles of the center of that city on the west and the same distance on the east as the city limits extend out that far on either side. A meeting will probably be held soon to discuss the matter of voting on a proposition to cut out the outside districts. Many of the business men will oppose cutting out the outside territory, through fear of increased taxation, and it is believed that nearly every elector in the central part of the city will vote to have the city limits remain as they are at present.
