GARDEN GROVE
A large crowd attended the closing exercises of the Garden Grove grammar school, all the seats in the assembly hall and the two adjoining rooms failing to hold the crowd. Even all the available standing room was taken.
The drills by the lower class were beautiful and much credit should be given to their teacher, who showed tireless efforts in training them. The piano solos and duet were very well rendered.
The song by Helen Davis was a pretty one and showed a few of the fine qualities of her voice.
The prophecy of the class made by the seventh grade and read by Miss Pearl Nimmo was excellent, as was also the eighth class prophecy, written by Eva DeVaul and Luetta Harris, two of the graduates, and read by Eva De Vaul. A will was read by Hattie Sargent to the eighth grade, giving them the left over belongings of the ninth grade.
As the diplomas could not be gotten by that evening Mr. Weise presented the graduating class with diplomas written by the ninth grade.
The class song, which was very appropriate and entered heartily into by the class, was made up to the tune of "If I Only Had a Sweetheart" and was written by the graduating class, aided by some of the teachers.
A splendid dinner was served at noon by members. Visiting members were Mrs. C. C. Davis of Garden Grove, Mrs. C. Salter, Mrs. B. Clay, Mrs. M. Matthews and Mrs. Henry way of Santa Ana. In the afternoon one hour was devoted to the Daughters of Zion Society, that being regular day and hour. After that hour the quilters were entertained music on the phonograph which was very much enjoyed. The entire was well spent and much enjoyed all present.
Mrs. R. W. Elliott, who was last Sunday as the result of breaking of a rope which held hammock in which she was reclining is much improved, but is still connected to her bed.
George Dayton who had his broken is steadily improving at Santa Ana hospital.
Fern Nimmo has been visiting aunts, Mrs. Sarah K. Bill and M. Carrie M. Kimball. Misses Pearl and Gerna Nimmo who have been staying with their relatives during the term, expect to return to their home on the San Joaquin ranch this week.

The class song, which was very appropriate and entered heartily into by the class, was made up to the tune of "If I Only Had a Sweetheart" and was written by the graduating class, aided by some of the teachers.
The class was a large one, numbering nineteen. The graduates: Myrtle Smith, Maud Holland, Ethel Swall, Etta Adams, Ruth Lee, Eva De Vaul, Margaret Mahan, Lillian Melick, Genevie Carner, Ada Swartzbaugh, Reba Steele, Agnes Graham, Luetta Harris, Ona Roberts; Frank Winters, Jas Givens, Roy Mills, George Oertly, and Virgil Brown.
Ruth Lee was valedictorian and read an interesting farewell address. The program was well rendered and was enjoyed by those present.
The scholars and the community in general are greatly disappointed by not being able to secure Mrs. C. A. Weise and some of the other teachers, who have resigned for other positions as instructors next year.
The Quilting party that was held last Thursday at the Ladies' Aid Society room east of town was well attended. Three quilts were almost fin-

The death of Antonia Valdez, at 10, in a ditch of the Santa Ana Valley Irrigation Co., at El Modena being very carefully investigated officials of the water company. The coroner's jury placed blame upon water company. That blame the officials do not believe justly belong on their shoulders. While they much grieved over the tragedy they prefer that conditions be understood.
Antonia Valdez with several other children was playing about the diary the morning the girl fell in the standpipe and was drowned children were told to keep away from the standpipe. The girl was in possession of her faculties until fell. It seems likely that she struck her head against the cement and stunned, and hence the fact there was water running into pipe was likely not the only factor in bringing about her death.
Residents of the neighborhood passing teamsters are said to be blame for the open standpipe in number of places. The water company claims that the standpipe whi

Antonia Valdez, aged 51 of the Santa Ana Valley, at El Modena is fully investigated by water company. The girl fell in was closed with a covering that was bolted to the cement, but that someone in order to have access to the water tore the covering away. At least such a procedure has been noticed in a number of places on the company's ditches.
For a number of years, in fact ever since the water company began using pipe, it has been confronted with the difficulty of guarding against the washing of a body, that might fall into a section of open ditch in front of a closed pipe, into the closed section. The superintendent has tried the use of bars, but the fact that trash washes up and stops the entrance causing the ditch to overflow has proven the grating of entrances as tried hitherto to be unsatisfactory. But the company hopes to devise a method of securing the protection without suffering the damage that has been done in the past by the grating.

Residents of Westminster are aroned over the recent readjustment in rural mail delivery routes that has practically wiped Westminster off the map, as some of them claim, and a mass meeting was called at the instance of the Westminster Improvement League to discuss the matter and suggest plans for making the alleged wrong right. Under the old arrangement Westminster had a daily mail service, but under the new plan, those interested say it will be impossible to have a letter mailed from Westminster delivered in Los Angeles the same day, and it will therefore be a three days' wait for an answer to a communication sent from Westminster to Los Angeles. Those in opposition to the present arrangement say they will take it up immediately with Postoffice Inspector Montanya and believe that such representations can be made that an investigation will follow htat will obtain for them the desired results. Westminster residents say the change in the delivery route is but a stepping stone toward taking away the postoffice from Westminster as was done in Garden Grove, and they propose to use every legitimate means to hold on to what they term is justly their own.
Mrs. Fannie French Chaffee satisfied to let the judgment of Superior Court against her resent week Attorney Montgomery reported her and gave notice of a trial for a new trial, which will be a preliminary step toward an appeal the Supreme Court. Mrs. Chaffee with whom W. R. Carpenter said before his death disappeared, sued Carpenter estate for $840 loan her to Carpenter and for which held notes. The case went after her on the ground that she had not been served with a deed.
Louis F. Moulton, the well-El Toro grain grower and stock has purchased from the heirs E. Bacon their interests in 20 acres of land at San Juan Capistrano. The deed to the property has recorded. Moulton becomes one of all the holdings of the estates Judge Bacon in the southern county, except one lot in center of town of San Juan trano. The 2000 acres lies within the town. In it is included a grove of forty or fifty acres. A share of the property lies on sloping hill above the valley. Deed was written on April 12, 1935, and transfers from A. J., Lydia N. Bacon, Josephine Dadmun, M. Hall, Lydia R. Moore and Edwina J. E. Belcher all property owned them in township 8 south, ran west, including lots 19 and 20, 2, San Juan Capistrano, but that other property than that in the site itself. A part of the heirs signed the deed live in Midland Mass. Judge Bacon was one of best known characters in the city. For years he was justice of the court at San Juan Capistrano.
George M. Barlow who is in at Santa Ana, is believed to be Peeping Tom who has operated three weeks. Barlow weighs o pounds and is a blacksmith by procedure in the selection of attestation to defend men who come up in final cases without anyone to do them. That method will be the pointment alphabetically. Ames came first in order, and was appointed to defend Kirberville.

Although he has never visited his home and has not been heard of for years, relatives are making an effort to locate Thomas Morris, at one time one of the foremost professional sprinters in hte country and a former resident of Santa Ana. About thirteen years ago his mother, Mrs. M. B. Morris, of Capistrano, Orange county, heard that he was in Denver, but failed to find him there, and abou five years ago went to Seattle on the same fruitless mission. Morris had many friends in the sporting fraternity. He had won many races abroad. He disappeared suddenly, and foul play was feared. Morris is about 41 years old.
That EdwardReinert was temporarily insane when he shot C. N. Gary, a real estate man, who he thought had defrauded him out of $4000, will be the defense in the trial now on in the Superior Court. The charge against Reinert is that he attempted to kill Gary.
Dr. J. I. Clark of Santa Ana has been appointed on the board of managers of the Southern California State Hospital, vice H. McPhee term expired. The term for which Dr. Clarl is appointed is four years. McPhee was appointed by Pardee just before Pardee went out of the governor's chair, the appointment being one of several made by him among those wh were friendly to his candidacy for nomination for governor against Gillett. Dr. Clark is city health officer and is a practicing physician in Santa Ana. He is a Republican, and during the last campaign he was lined up with the "regulars."
