Spake of Dallas, Tex., who was recently here on a visit to his brother, was last week operated upon for appendicitis on his return home from his coast trip. At latest accounts he had improved suf-ficiently to be able to leave the hospital, and his rapid recovery is anticipated. Mrs. O. A. Mullinix was on Friday evening elected to represent the local Rebekah lodge at the meeting of the grand lodge which convenes at San Francisco in May. Mrs. Tipton was chosen to represent the lodge at an anniversary meeting of Rebekahs to be held in Los Angeles on April 21. E. J. Byrne, Louis Borchard, J. MacArthur and J. Becker spent ten days at Yuma, returning the past week. They visited the Laguna dam, twelve miles above Yuma, where waters of the Colorado are diverted for irrigation. Head Advisor Veale of Pasadena visited the Woodmen of the World at a meeting on Thursday evening. He delivered an interesting address which was listened to by a large assemblage. The camp will on April 10 receive a visit from Head Consul Boak of Denver. An open meeting will be held, one of the features being a wood-sawing contest between teams from the local and Santa Ana camps. The opera-house will be reopened on Sunday and Monday evenings, March 28 and 29, with the Talk-oScope, which is said to be one of the best entertainments on the road. New chairs have been installed, together with a new maple floor and other improvements, including a $450 piano. John Schumacher will be the manager, and the best of order will be maintained.
