The following were present: C. W. Warner and F. E. Wilson of Huntington Beach, P. W. Ehlen and Carl C. Jorn of Orange, A. E. Bennett of Tustin, Lew H. Wallace and W. W. Wilson of Newport, E. E. Angell and W. Harold Wickett of Anaheim, E. S. Richman and H. J. Wyman of Fullerton, W. L. Jencks of Garden Grove, Dr. Dobson and H. C. Head of Santa Ana. A number of people from Santa Ana were present at the meeting. Dr. Dobson and L. H. Wallace were made temporary chairman and secretary, respectively, and each delegate was called upon to express his views. There was complete accord and all thought the organization would be just what has been needed in the county for some years. All conceded that the effect would be the better harmonizing of interests and the elimination of petty jealousies, and a motion to effect a permanent organization was received with enthusiasm. The motion was by H. C. The motion was by H. C. Head and he nominated W. W. Wilson of Newport for permanent chairman and he was elected without opposition. Carl C. Jorn of Orange was made secretary. A committee consisting of Dr. Dobson of Santa Ana, W. Harold Wickett of Anaheim, E. S. Richman of Fullerton, A. E. Bennett of Tustin, Carl C. Jorn of Orange, L. H. Wallace of Newport Beach and W. L. Jencks of Garden Grove, was appointed to prepare a constitution and bylaws and submit them at a meeting to be held at Anaheim Wednesday evening, March 31. In future the associated chambers of commerce of Orange county will be something on the order of an "advisory committee" for all the organizations, and through it differences can be settled, and combined action taken on matters that pertain to the advancement of each section as well as the entire county. The committee on constitution and by-laws got together for a few minutes and discussed briefly an outline for the working plans. It was the general sentiment that each chamber should be entitled to two memberships and the improvement associations one. While it was thought advisable that the same delegates should attend each meeting of the new organization, the question was left for settlement at the meeting to complete the permanent organization, which is the meeting at Anaheim on March 31st. After organization is completed regular meetings will be held, the cities rotating in alphabetical order in entertaining the associated chambers It will be arranged that should the entertaining city wish to provide a banquet, each representative attending shall pay for his own plate. An incident of the meeting was the characteristic way in which W. W. Wilson and L. H. Wallace put in a word for Newport harbor. These gentlemen believe in the harbor and talk it in and out of season, and if their prediction comes true it will not be many years hence before Newport harbor is a reality. A splendid color drawing of the bay was exhibited, and the exhibit is now on display in one of the store windows in Santa Ana. Visiting delegates were banqueted by the Santa Ana chamber. Sheridan, the commercial center of the coal fields of northeastern Wyoming and the largest town in the northern part of the state, is situated in the west of this field, and Dietz, Carneyville, Monarch, and Kool are thriving mining communities within it. Commercial mining began in this district in 1893, but coal of workable thickness was mined for domestic use by ranchmen at the present location of Dietz as early as 1880. The coals of the Sheridan district are classed as subbituminous. Chemical analyses show that as a whole they have higher heat values and are therefore more efficient fuels than the better grades of lignites, from which they are distinctly separate in quality; and they are distinguished from bituminous coals chiefly by their relatively high percentage of moisture, their difference in luster, and their inability to withstand weathering. Prior to 1900 they were used principally for domestic fuel. American Ambassador O'Fallon and the Japanese foreign office January, 1907, became actually foreign office points out that it has required several times to perfect a system in the entire field of emigration be brought under control, those months between the end of the agreement and 18, and that consequently the test of the effectiveness of them of restriction employed. The Sheridan field is only an arbitrarily taken patch of the Fort Union coal region, which extends from northeastern Wyoming into eastern Montana and North Dakota. All this region is now under investigation for purposes of coal-land classification by geologists of the United States Geological Survey. A brief report on the economic geology of the Sheridan field, by Joseph A. Taff, has been published by the survey in an advance chapter (341-B) from Bulletin 341, which forms Part II of "Contributions to Economic Geology, 1907." This report includes a discussion of only so much of the stratigraphy, topography, structure, and culture as seems to have direct bearing on the development of the coal field. The publication of this advance chapter has been much delayed as the result of a fire at the engraver's by which the original drawings for many of the maps that illustrate it were destroyed. The chapter is at last ready for distribution, however, and may be obtained by applying to the Director of the Survey at Washington, D. C. There seems to be little doubt that a clash between Nicaragua and Salvador is imminent, though the reports are conflicting as to the actual existence of hostilities, and that President Zelaya of Nicaragua is at the bottom of it. Evidently these republics need to be brought to a realization of the fact that the Central American "peace pact" is something more than printed paper. Both the United States and Mexico were represented at this convention and are parties to it, and both will regard it their duty to intervene in case of hostilities to the extent of using force if need be. These governments believe unquestionably that the signing of the peace conventions at Washington on December 20, 1907, by themselves and the Central American republics was virtually an acknowledgement of their right and duty to maintain peace and order in Central America. You can try a single motor at little use and no inconvenience. Study it, watch it work, tabulate results. From it you can learn just what a complete installation of motor will mean. Most people who start with one motor end with complete electrical equipment, and become enthusiastic converts to electric power.
