Both gentlemen will probably spend a portion of their time in this neighborhood, and Mr. Gilroy intends hunting up all his old-time friends—those who are yet in the land of the living, for a number have passed into the beyond—and shaking them by the hand in that old familiar way for which he has all along been noted. He is in business at Winnipeg and is doing well. J. B. Neff is in Imperial county this week with the demonstration train. He left for that section on Sunday evening. He attended the meetings at El Monte and Lemon last week, and states the train is being met by large audiences all along the line. The train is due at Anaheim sometime next month. Hon. J. E. Raker, judge of the superior court of Modoc county, and Grand Master of the Odd Fellows' grand lodge, was in Anaheim one day last week, a guest of F. C.Spencer, who has the honor of being his brother-in-law. Judge Raker is a leader of the state democracy, and with other men is bringing about notable reforms in that party in California. W. F. Amstutz of Riverside was in the city on Monday with a view to purchasing eucalypt trees for planting a thirty-acre tract in the upper valley. Mrs. Konig entertained a party of friends from Los Angeles on Sunday with a fine dinner and an auto ride in the afternoon. Those in the party were Mrs. Batcher, Misses Sara and Annie Morgan and S. Reynolds. Mrs. Irma Lillie departed Monday for her home in Dallas, Texas, after a visit of one month in this city with her aunt, Mrs. Emma O. Kellogg. For sale: Choice Loganberry plants T. H. Boyer was awakened at about 10 o'clock on Friday night at his residence on North Lemon street by two burglars who attempted to enter the building. Uncle John Bush was in town from his ranch at Olive the first of the week. Uncle John is going on 80, his good wife is 76, and both allow they are getting younger every day. A. H.
