In this manner it is expected that all the water will be developed which the stockholders can possibly use.

KEENE GETS FIVE YEARS
Is Not His Name, but He Goes Up
Just the Same
J. R. Keene, who was arrested for burglarizing A. E. Hawley's gunstore at Santa Ana some weeks ago, was on Monday morning sentenced to San Quentin for five years, and the reason he dind't get a longer sentence was because of some ambiguity in the transcript of evidence, which left a doubt in the mind of the court as to just whether Hawley's store was entered by Keene before sunset on Sunday evening or after midnight on Sunday night. The penalty for burglary in the first degree, that means burglary during the hours of night, is not less than one year nor more than fifteen. For second degree burglary, which means daylight burglary, the penalty is not less than one year nor more than five years. Judge West said that because of a doubt in his mind as to the exact hour the burglary was committed, he would make the sentence the maximum for second degree burglary.
Keene asked permission to say something in his own behalf and when his request was granted he begged for a "chance," saying he had just arrived in California when the crime was committed, and that he had to steal to make a living.
Judge West reminded him that his previous experience in Riverside was against him, but Keene replied that he didn't think the recording angel would hold it against him for robbing the Riverside place.
Keene was to have been sentenced last Friday, but at that time he told the district attorney his true name and the address of a relative in Ohio, and that officer telegraphed to verify
