Dr. Bryant of Los Angeles who was called here on Wednesday night of last week to perform a surgical operation upon Mrs. Kellenberger, was met at Garden Grove by E. E. Angell in an auto and driven hither, arriving about 11 o'clock. After perforning the operation the Doctor was driven back to Los Angeles by Mr. Angell, who returned home at 4 o'clock on Thursday morning. The congregation of Grace Evangelical church has purchased a lot 100x120 at the corner of Emily and Sycamore streets, and will in the near future begin the erection of a church edifice. The pastor, Rev. Ludwig G. Jacobs, says the building fund is ample for the erection of a commodious edifice, and that the structure will be a credit to the northern part of the county. F. W. Hartman, owner of the opera house building, has awarded contract to Tedford & Newman for extensive repairs and alterations to the building. A new stairway will be construc­ted and a new flooring of hard wood laid. Alterations will be made on the stage and dressing rooms, and new opera chairs installed. The im­provements will cost $2000. The following directors of the Odd Fellows' building association have been chosen to serve the ensuing year: Wm. Schumacher, Max Boege, Fritz A. Yungbluth, F. C. Spencer, Frank Gates. The directors then elec­ted the following officers: Wm. Schumacher, president; Max Boege, vice president; F. C. Spencer, secretary; F. A. Yungbluth, treasurer. The building will be of brick, one story high, of substantial design, having a handsome plate-glass front, and will be 30x133 feet. It will be ready for occupancy in three months. Frank C. Horstman has filed suit for divorce from Mabel E. Hbrstman, wife, on the ground of desertion. Plaintiff alleges that he and defendant were married in Denver in 1888 and that subsequently he and his wife went to reside at Leadville, where he became ill and went to a certain health resort in Colorado and that his wife took advantage of his temporary absence and left him for parts unknown and he has never seen her since. E. L. Olmstead has sold 1770 acres of land belonging to himself, situated in the San Fernando valley, to the United Powder company, which will erect works for manufacturing giant powder. The company will make an investment of $100,000 and will immediately begin the construction of necessary buildings. Mr. Olmstead has purchased the interest of his partner, G. J. Stock, in the realty business, and will in future conduct the business at the old stand. Mr. Stock will give his personal attention to his ranch holdings at the west end. Fleischman returned on Saturday from Tempe, A.T., with two cars of fat young steers which he will slaughter for the wholesale market. Mr. Fleischman purchased six carloads of beef cattle at Tempe, and will return thither on the 20th to bring in the remainder. He speaks in terms of praise of the irrigated lands about Tempe, where he found fine fields of alfalfa and barley. On his next trip to the territory he may visit the Roosevelt dam. While at Tempe he talked over the phone to Fritz Martin, formerly of this city, but now of Mesa. Fritz is doing well and says Fleischman's Arizona beef is the best ever brought into this market.
