Dr. Beebe proved the old adage at the banquet on Friday evening that physicians ought to be comfortable nights because they are always sure to be well (w)rapped up. Just as the clam chowder was being served, and seated among a company of friends he was about to show his prowess in gastronomics, a telephone call summoned him to the bedside of a little girl in the outskirts who had been seized by an attack of epilepsy. He repaired instantly to her side, and was unable to return until the banquet spread was over, a happy figment of the memory. the banquet spread was over, a happy figment of the memory. The doctor took the summons in good part,
as true physicians should, and though
he must have regretted missing the
baked tuna and the juicy roasts,
said nothing as he returned in time
to catch the fag-end remnants of the oratory and flow of soul which helped make the evening conspicuous.
Two years ago a similar experience befell him and he had to leave an especially tempting repast at a banquet given by the chamber of commerce to hurry to the bedside of a patient who had been taken suddenly with illness.

The cabbage crop of Orange county and surrounding districts will be a little more than one-third of the output last season, but it is believed the prices will be much higher. The first carload will be moved shortly from this county at $34 per ton while the market opened last year at only $6 per ton. Last season the entire crop from Southern California found close competition in the east but men who are well posted on the outlook believe the California cabbage will be the best seller in the eastern market this season.
