Litten this week sold his express business to Stock & Backs, which take over his contract for carrying mails to and from the postoffice. Mr. Litten may remove to Orange where he owns realty, and where he may take up his residence. M. A. Andrews has sold his 35-acre orange and walnut ranch in the southeastern city limits to John Resh for a consideration of $25,000. Chamberlain of Oregon, father of Fred Chamberlain, is in the city for the winter, after an absence of twenty years. Mr. Chamberlain formerly resided at Santa Ana, where he was engaged in the erection of some of the first houses built in that city. Schmidt was a visitor in Los Angeles on Sunday. Mr. Schmidt is one of the four remaining pioneers of the original number of 50 who founded Anaheim, and at 84 is still hale and hearty, and as active as many men at 48. He goes to the city once a week to visit his daughter, Mrs. Dr. Bullard, and other relatives, and is never better satisfied than, with children and grandchildren around him, he tells them of his experiences in this new land half a century ago. The evening was spent in games and social converse, and a bountiful supply of refreshments were discussed. Miss Horwitz was made the recipient of many valuable birthday gifts and well wishes for many happy returns of the day. She is the accomplished assistant in J. S. Howard's photograph studio, and her many friends extend felicitations upon the happy event. Capt. Stern entertained members of the fire company at a banquet at Huenemeyer’s cafe on Wednesday evening of last week. The affair was in honor of valiant service rendered at the time of the fire in Stern Bros. establishment some time ago, when what promised to be a bad fire was extinguished with only a partial destruction of the stock. He is a guest of his brother Frank, and both are enjoying a visit from their father, recently arrived from the east. The wheel belonged to his brother-in-law, J. A. Allen, and was left outside the building. Another wheel was placed on top of it, but this was not taken. Ray borrowed another bicycle and rode home on it. The stolen wheel was valued at $55. The police were notified. The wedding will occur in the spring. Dr. Harry Prevost, formerly of Kansas City now of Los Angeles, spent Sunday with his aunts, the Misses Aubert. He was very favorably impressed with our city. A. T. Pendleton was in from Placentia on Thursday afternoon. He reports a precipitation of two inches of rain in that locality the preceding night.
