Olinda sat upon the Hall league baseball in a game on Sunday noon which drew one of the last crowds of the season to the hill diamond. Russell and Cox were in the points for the vince while Rich and Rameriz office for the vanquished. No score kept of the game as the fainted. Manager Frantz of Olinda first refused to give the score at the entreaty of a crowd of in town Monday, turned his away, dropped a silent team said it was 20 to 1.

Walter Johnson seems to have struck his gait in the American League, for he has been pitching winning ball for Washington. On Friday he pitched against Detroit, champions of the American League, allowing them five scattered hits. The Senators took the game on four hits, by a score of 3 to 1. The men behind the local twirler amassed two errors, while the Tigers played errorless ball.
Johnson pitched again on Monday, when Detroit shut out the Senators, 1 to 0. The Tigers hit Johnson ten times safely, but were prevented from scoring oftener by sharp fielding.
W. S. Taylor was in town Saturday from Beatty, Nev., and reports his mine producing excellent ore. Mr. Taylor must be credited with developing his mine during a period of depression. This faith in its ultimate success is his distinguishing characteristic. He leaves in a few days for Beatty, and will prosecute devel-

Mrs. Josephine Butler, of Los Angeles, is a guest of Mrs. Cora Brown at her home at Brookhurst. Mrs. Butler recently returned from a visit of several months with friends in Philadelphia.
Captain E. Barr returned on Monday evening from a month's outing at Lake Elsinore. Yesterday he went to Huntington Beach to attend the Grand Army encampment.
Mrs. Koenig, Miss Elchler and Mrs. Fulweider spent several days the past week sight-seeing at San Diego, Coronado, Tia Juana and other points south.
Miss Hazel Michod of Los Angeles, is a guest of Miss Fay McKinley. Each will graduate from Stanford University next year.

Fritz Ruhman has taken down the frame buildings at the corner of Los Angeles and Chartres streets,
and will on Monday begin the erection of a large corrugated iron structure 60x60, which will be occupied by Stern & Mills for their carriage and implement emporium. The new building will be ready for occupancy by October 1st.
Adolph Bierent and wife of Pleasanton, Alameda county, are visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Gunderson, parents of Mrs. Bierent. They will re-remain several weeks. Mr. Bierent is employed as engineer by Mrs. Hearst at her home, one of the most palatial in the state, where he is in charge of the electric light works operated by her.
John Heitshusen left on Monday for Berkeley to re-enter the school for deaf, dumb and blind. Johnny is the bright little boy who lost his hearing as a result of illness when a child. He was accompanied north by Adam Walter.
J. F. Ahlborn was a business visitor in Los Angeles on Monday. He will probably reopen his remodeled store sometime next week. A force of mechanics is engaged in refitting the interior, which when completed, will be one of the handsomest stores in the county.

Rudolph Goetz was leading a cow on the Olinda ranch on Saturday, when the animal became fractious and butted him. The animal trampled upon him, breaking an arm.
