Bert J. Huyber has purchased interest of George Martin in store on South Los Angeles so will in future conduct the same old stand. At Mojave on Friday the thermometer registered 128 degrees, and on Saturday 122 degrees. At 1 o’clock on Saturday morning the mercury rose to 118. Mr. Rea is glad to get back to the land of cooling sea breezes, where life is worth living.
A decree of divorce was handed down on Tuesday by Judge West in favor of Mrs. A. A. Goodwin, of Visalia, and against William Goodwin, of Reno, Nev., on grounds of desertion and failure to provide. Mrs. Goodwin is a niece of Mr. Mayhead of this city. F. C. Spencer appeared as attorney for plaintiff.
Major F. E. Upham of Olive was in town the first of the week. Major Upham stands for clean politics, and says republicans up his way are indignant over the action of the county committee in denying them the right to vote at primaries. Olive republicans want a house-cleaning.
N. R. Baker, representing the Keystone type foundry, was in town on Monday and talked the office into a trance. The providential arrival of his train saved the office from being replaced from end to end with Keystone type. Mr. Baker is the man who talks the birds off the bush.
Rev. Kuhnle and family have moved into the new parsonage recently completed on Broadway by Contractor Pruitt. The edifice was formally accepted last week by the church trustees, who expressed satisfaction with Mr. Pruitt’s work.
Electric fans have made their appearance during the recent warm spell.

Mrs. Wm. Schumacher has installed an electric flatiron at her residence, which is said to be the latest thing for ironing clothes. It is supplied with city power, works admirably and its cost is only a few cents per day.
Manager Ross of the gas trust reports his company is putting the other fellows on the bum. He makes gas every day, including Sunday, all day long, while two hours a day every other day lets the other fellows out.
Capt. Stern has issued instructions to members of Company E to attend drills punctually so that the company may be up to standard at joint maneuvers in Camp October 4th to 15th at Atascadero.
Mrs. J. M. Baldy of Portland, sister of L. K. Marshall, who spent the past week with relatives here left some days ago for a visit to various coast resorts before proceeding to her home in the north.

S. McFarlane has been rejected by the Board of Supervisors. A similar demand for meeting the damages has been made on McFarlane, who also refused payment. The way is now clear for the filing of the damage suit, which has been under contemplation by Levengood, and that suit will likely be commenced shortly. Levengood claims he lost several cattle and that an entire herd bought by him from the Joplin ranch in Bell canyon was injured as the result of dipping. Dr. McFarlane and the county will be the defendants in the action when it is begun.

In the party are Harold Pellegrin, Paul Comstock, Robert McAuley, Cyril Tipton, John and Earl Spencer, Earl Crist, Clarence Beebe, Wayne Goble, Robert Knapp and Gerald Hagar. They walked to Garden Grove, leaving here at 6:30 on Monday morning, and took the electric for San Pedro. Sixty Orange county boys are in camp.
Miss Lena Ingraham has returned from a month's outing in the Yosemite valley. She was one of a party of 66,
and with others made many trips afoot to points of interest in the valley. She leaves shortly with her mother and sister for a stay of some weeks at Catalina.
