LOCAL EVENTS
Manager Thompson of the Puente oil company has added another delivery wagon, and is now delivering twice the amount of oil ever delivered before. He runs three distillate wagons regularly, and frequently puts on an extra rig. One company uses 400 gallons of distillate daily, and Mr. Thompson wears the usual summer season smile. Says he doesn’t care if it never wears off.
Olinda and Rivera will cross bats at the oil wells in a game of baseball on Sunday afternoon which promises to be the most stubbornly contested of the year. Olinda has won eight straight games, and will put up a stiff game against the foreigners.
Grammar school trustees organized on Monday evening by electing Mr. Clabaugh president and Mr. Schwenckert clerk. Mr. Goble was elected janitor in place of D. Lieb, who will take a well-earned vacation.

Placentia
Miss Ethel Chapman handsomely entertained at her elegant home one evening recently with a bridal luncheon in honor of Mrs C. E. Shank. The guests were members of the Ladies' Riding club and a few friends. Dainty pink decorations in the dining room contributed to the handsome appearance of the surroundings. Following the luncheon, which consisted of all of the dainties of the season, an adjournment was taken to the spacious drawing rooms, where later in the evening the ladies were joined by their gentlemen friends. A pleasant social hour followed. The affair was a most successful one due to the untiring efforts of the charming young hostess.
Mrs. M. Hansen, T. Hansen and family and Lee Myers and family spent the Fourth at Long Beach.
James Forbes and family, Mr. Jacobsen and family, James Tuffree, Mrs Lloyd and son, M. H. Peelor and family of Placentia and Mrs. Edgerton, Mr. Forbes and Mr. Denkil of Los Angeles formed a picnic party at Sycamore flats on the 4th.

Riverside on Monday granted Henry E. Huntington a 48-year electric railway franchise. The franchise provides for the commencement within four months, and the completion within three years, of an extension to the westerly city limits, which means to Corona; provides for the extension of the five cent fare limit one-half mile beyond the present limit, or to Madison street, for the accommodation of residents in the suburb of Casa Blanca, and contains clauses embodying the new freight and express carrying features. The latter provides that cars similar to the passenger cars may be operated at all hours of the day for the carrying of fruit, butter, eggs and such other commodities as are usually hauled by express companies, and that freight cars, in trains if desired, may be operated, but only during the hours between 10 p.m and 6 a.m.
W. E. Dunn was present in person from Los Angeles to represent Mr. Huntington, and expressed himself as well satisfied with the few alterations made by the council in the original draft of the franchise. In the course of the evening he stated that there was a larger construction force at work on lines which would ultimately connect Riverside with Los Angeles than upon any other section of the system, and he said further that, in his opinion, work on the extension of the road to Corona, once started, would never be stopped until the line was finished.
A large force of men is now at work upon the electric line from Los Nietos to Randolph. This line will be pushed to Olinda and continued up River canyon.
Mr. Huntington has stated a cross-country line will be constructed from a point near the mouth of the canyon.
