Maro, the magician, on account of illness, was unable to appear at the opera house as advertised on Tuesday evening, March 10th. The management did not learn of his sickness until a short time before the crowd began to gather. A large house was assured and many, especially the managers of the course, were very much disappointed. If Maro cannot be obtained at a later date two good entertainments will be secured in his place, or money will be refunded to persons holding tickets. Norman died at his home in Escondido Feb. 28, of consumption, after an illness extending over a period of several months. The remains were interred the following day. Owing to ill health he moved to San Diego county, and had since resided at Escondido. A party of hunters composed of Henry Hetebrink, Aaron Fithian and Jacob and Louis Edwardson on Sunday went into the hills back of the ostrich farm on a coyote hunt and killed ten of the varmints. The boys are rated as being among the best rifle shots hereabout and "picked off" some of the coyotes at a considerable distance. The pests are quite prevalent in the hills and the boys are going to arrange for another roundup of them in the near future. Rev. W. S. Dearing, in charge of St. Michael's Mission of Anaheim for over twelve years, and his wife were the recipients recently of a most unexpected and generous gift of $35 from the members of the mission and guild, as a farewell token of love and appreciation. They will use the sum in the purchase of books long desired, and which will be a lasting memorial of the kind friends endeared by long years of pleasant association.
