Closing Celery Season
There are about seventy-five more carloads of celery to be shipped from the celery fields to the eastern markets. Last Friday G. W. Moore, manager of the Celery Growers’ Association, and H. S. Hazeltine, manager of the California Vegetable Union, made a trip over the fields and came to the conclusion that it would not be necessary to pool the last shipments. The eastern markets are out of celery, and good prices prevail. The blight this year curtailed the output of this county. The association expects to reduce its acreage to about three-fifths what it is this year.
Fire at Orange
The Orange dry goods company in the Dobner block, Orange, was damaged by fire early on Tuesday morning. The origin of the fire is not definitely known but it is supposed to have been from a heating stove in the room. L. J. Fahien is the proprietor and he estimates his loss at $2000. He carried $1500 insurance in the Prussian national. The stock was entirely ruined by fire and water. One of the patrol boxes maintained by the merchants and manufacturers’ association is located on the building and the fire was discovered when the patrolman was at the farthest end of his beat.

Suddenly the bicycle rider in misjudging the speed of the automobile, was struck and knocked nown. He fell flat on his stomach on the pavement Had he been a smaller man he would

He fell flat on his stomach on the pavement Had he been a smaller man he would have passed under the auto with disastrous results, but the seat of his trousers was caught on the front axle. McFadden brought his machine to a stop, but not before the bicyclist had been treated to a rough trip over the electric car rails and the cobblestones beside them. The young man received severe bruises, and is minus considerable skin. He went his way without leaving his name.
Weekly Sales Report
SATURDAY, FEB. 15TH, 1908.
The week just closed has been one of the most gratifying since the Beaumont sales opened. While broken by violent rainstorms and rendered uncomfortable by cold and threatening weather the sales reached a total of $4300. This brings up the entire sales since September 14th to $171,200, a record never before reached by any similar project in a similar space of time.
Building has been actively resumed. Many houses under way have been completed and with the advent of clear weather the past few days a number of new homes and ranch houses have been started. Tree planting is going forward in a most satisfactory manner. As indicating the drawing power of Beaumont, Thomas Arnold of Sisters, Oregon, has been won from his old home and will equip a chicken and vegetable ranch on 6 29 acres at Beaumont. Geo.
A. Lee, Los Angeles resident agent for Duffy's cider and bottle goods, who is familiar with every foot of Southern California, has selected 10½ acres at Beaumont. He declares it the best proposition on the market. C. D. Beauchamp will build and install a chicken ranch on 4 acres south of the town. F. D. O'Kane has transferred his allegiance from the San Joaquin valley to Beaumont and will build at once on 2.65 acres south of the graded school.
